  1. Hey there I just saw the Asus ProArt B550 Creator motherboard which has Thunderbolt 4 built into it with a Displayport 1.4 in. Link here: https://www.asus.com/Motherboards-Components/Motherboards/ProArt/ProArt-B550-CREATOR/techspec/ This seems cool to me since you could make everything on your desktop be connected to a dock, but I do wonder what the limits of that DP in are. For example, lets say that I wanted dual monitors, could that DP in be split once it reaches the dock? I know that DP can be split but I wonder if it would recognize that ability since it's being sent over TB. Also if that does work, how far could you push it? Does DP splitting let you do anything over 60Hz even at 1080p?
  2. Kind of an off topic question but what is the clock that you use under your monitors?
  3. Yeah it seems like Actual Multiple Monitors would have the feature I'm looking for but quite a few other features I don't really need. I appreciate the suggestion though!
  4. Hey there, I've got two monitors setup in extended mode and I'd like to have a slideshow on my primary monitor, and a separate slideshow on my secondary monitor. So a folder of images for each display that they can cycle through. This doesn't appear to be an option in Windows that I can see. At the moment I get a very strange "leap-frog" like selection on the slideshow as shown below (Red is primary monitor, green is second. Numbers are what is shown each cycle): Does anyone know of a way to do this either in Windows or if there are any good 3rd-party applications to do this? Thanks!
  5. Oh cheers mate, I'll look into that
  6. I figured as much, but to clarify what I'm implying is not a laptop, but to dump a PC in a basement or something, and then run a thunderbolt cable up to the room and just have a dongle there where I can interact with the PC.
  7. Lets say that my setup has GPU X, and my motherboard has Thunderbolt 3 support. If I use an HDMI adapter from that thunderbolt port, will the GPU be used as the device powering graphics? I would just test this myself but I don't have the setup I just mentioned.
  8. Thanks for the suggestions, I'll probably give the duct insulation a try, I think I have some lying around the house actually
  9. I've seen that Be Quiet has sound dampening foam in their cases, and I would like to get what they use, or at least something similar for my case, but they don't seem to sell it. Anyone got any recommendations?
  10. You were close actually, the sense pin on the fan was frayed, so I soldered it back up and it seems alright for now. We'll see how it goes.
  11. I have an interesting issue in which my GPU fan speeds never come back down once they are at a certain percentage. For example if the GPU turns the fans to 45% they will never go below that until the next restart. Basically if I am playing a game and then exit it, my GPU will remain at 100% fan speed on the desktop at like 20 degrees Celsius. If I manually adjust the speed in MSI Afterburner, the speed will not come down either. Only a restart solves the issue By using a complete graphics driver uninstaller, the fans revert to their proper state without a restart once the driver is uninstalled. After reinstalling the driver the problem persists. What I'm using: Zotac GTX970 mini Gigabyte GA-Z97N-WIFI motherboard
  12. Hey, I'm in an interesting situation where I would like to have one monitor (secondary) display a screensaver and the other one (primary) just turn off after a period of time. Does anyone know of a way or third party app which can let me do this? Yes, you're probably thinking, who uses a screensaver these days? But at the moment I do have a need for this specific situation.
  13. So I've got a Dell Inspiron 15 7000 gaming, and I'm trying to use a headset with it however when I plug it in, it still uses the built in laptop microphone. I've tried: I've tried reinstalling drivers Switching between drivers (Windows Default and Realtek HD Audio) The windows default works the best, it actually switches between audio outputs consistently, however the input device is stuck on the built in laptop mic. Any suggestions? Is there some Dell software crap that I'm missing, it is a clean install of Windows?
  14. Yep those seem about right, plus that is the symbol. I should have realized this, since I have taken the thing apart and the ribbon connecting to that port says "RJ45"
  15. Interesting, but this has 12 pins, I thought firewire 400 looked more like this:
  16. I used to use PS/2 for my keyboard but Windows 10 kept putting scroll lock on, and although that doesn't do anything, my OCD required me to turn it off each startup. So I just use it on USB
  17. I've got a Lenovo Carbon X1 Gen. 2 and I've never used or known what this port is. It looks like a USB C or thunderbolt port but the symbol looks odd. Any ideas?
  18. Hi everyone, I am running Windows 10 on the creators update (so it has support for USB Audio Class 2 devices), but for some reason it is saying that it's own driver is not compatible. It does recognize the device as an audio one, but cannot seem to use it (Screenshot attached). Any suggestions? The device is an Audio-GD NFB11
  19. Here are some final images: As well as a Unigen Benchmark and some of the highest temps: Hope you enjoyed the build!
  20. Well here it is: The full video on some of the key points in the build. Hope you enjoy it. I'll be posting some other pictures later as well, and perhaps some benchmarks if I get around to it
  21. Thanks mate! It took quite a bit of time to get sorted (ahem AliExpress), but it was definitely worth the effort!
  22. I converted a Mac Classic II into a more modern PC, here's a quick teaser: I'll update the post once a the full video is done. Hope you enjoy. This build is a recycle from various other parts, so they are slightly dated, but let me make a list here: CPU - i7 2600 GPU - GTX 1050 Motherboard - Asus P8H61-I R2.0 PSU - Seasonic 350W Eyoyo 8" Screen RAM - 8GB DDR3 Storage - 1TB Hitachi Slim drive + 64GB SSD
  23. It's not for a performance thing, I'm doing a more "artistic" I suppose you could say build that includes a second monitor in the case, so I'm debating on whether to direct wire the motherboards or the GPUs. I'll probably go with the GPU
  24. I was wondering if it is possible to run two monitors, one main monitor running off the GPU and the other off of the Onboard graphics. The secondary one would never be used to run any games, etc. just the desktop. Thanks.
