I cloned and migrated my drives and other people drives many many times, never encountered any issues. Have you had some issues with that? If using proper software and just putting new drive without changing for example motherboard there should not be any problems.

i'd step up a little, we don't know how much a 3600x/3700x will pull

some are already annaunced, look around

i'd probably do, to create some extra airflow

something like some pure wing 2's will do

Ledury got a reaction from Gorgoroth in SSD Performance Below Average?
Read is quite good, write a bit slower, but that shouldnt be the problem.
Maybe you should check you TEMP files or autostart programms etc. Cleaning your PC a bit. More autostart programms, slower PC.
And btw I would say its not a good idea so post a screenshot with Facebook in the background, wouldnt do that

Ledury got a reaction from TechyBen in 1060 mini vs full-size?
The mini cards are, as expected, in fact mini. They are smaller, that means they do not provide the same abilities for cooling the components on the card, as the full size model does. The mini versions are made for small cases.

That's normal, there are usually a few blanks in them. Most of the 24 pins are ground anyways, I have attached an image of the pinout

It's really hard to measure bottleneck of PCIE lanes because any fps difference might be attributed to different architecture. For instance, you're talking about 9800X which is an x299 CPU and as such uses the mesh vs. ring on Broadwell-E which makes it less suitable for, say, gaming oriented performance. You'd need to really push (5GHz+ and high mesh and memory OC) in order to match a 6850k OCed to, say, 4.6-4.7GHz.

Here is a quote for ya:

Here is more to read including Intel's statement:

    https://www.overclock3d.net/news/cpu_mainboard/intel_s_skylake-x_architecture_offers_less_gaming_performance_than_kaby_lake/1

The same principle applies to SK-X vs. the 9900K. What you might lose in terms of PCIE-lanes you might get back from different architecture (9900k doesn't use mesh afaik).

On the other hand, if you are utilizing G-Sync then it might put additional strain on your GPU's without the x16/x16 bandwith (recent discussion in the SLI guide thread).

So, lot's of factors to consider and I'm sorry that I can't be more helpful but it's not so easy to compare that stuff.

I can only say that I personally would go for the x299, OC the CPU to 5GHz on water, get it at least 3600MHz memory and under no circumstance would I forget to OC the mesh.

The only worthwhile upgrade would be at least an GTX 1070, which is indeed to expensive for the amount of performance gain.

Well regarding the fact not every rendering enigne is GPU enabled, i dont see why OP should get an 1080ti without knowing his tool chain. He didnt asked for a gaming pc.

Get an 8600k its cheaper than the 7700,

Also you don't need an sli mobo if your gonna start off with a 1060 since Sli only starts at 1070's and above.

Also please get a better PSU.
