  1. So I did that and the slot that was working still works with the drive from bad slot. So I tried putting a little force on the drive for bad slot and I lost them all. Lol. I think the backplane must be cracked somewhere or acting up. I removed that drive and rebooted and see the same drives again on good slots. I even transferred data to make sure it worked and it does. I ordered a used backplane off ebay. 20 bucks. Comes in Friday.
  2. So the cable comes in tomorrow but check this out. I moved my computer that I used to flash the card down next to the dl180 g6. I booted my windows on computer and had card in there. I ran the sff8087 cable from card to the dl180 g6 backplane. I saw 6 of the 12 drives come up. I then updated driver for card on windows device manager. I still saw 6 drives. I pulled the drives that weren't being seen and inserted again and securely, now I see 8 total drives. I still need the other 4 and it's not like they are all next to eachother in bays. It's scattered around.
  3. Can you send a link to a good breakout cable to purchase? Also I guess I'll need some sort if power jumper/splitter cables to power sata drives?
  4. So after verifying the power was good. Today I finally had the time to install windows. I used a sata port off the mb. And used a sata power splitter to power up my drive. I had windows 10 on it and booted it up. I went to my device manager and saw my LSI card there. I followed online instructions and installed the proper driver for it. I don't see any drives though. So now I'm looking at a backplane issue I suppose? Or cable issue possibly? I want to order a cable but I seen in a post that someone ordered a cable before and it didn't work but found that there's a lsi "forward" cable? Do you know a link to a good cable that is sff 8087 to sff 8087. Also on another note to test card , what kind if breakout cable do I use? And where would I get power for sata drives?
  5. Oh ok. I'm sorry. I get what your saying now. If the sff to sata breakout cable works then the problem is most likely the backplane. Got it. I will see if I can get one local here in San Antonio. If not I'll be waiting for it in mail. Lol thanks a bunch for your help. Greatly appreciated.
  6. But the goal is to get all 12 2tb drives working. I love challenges like this. I don't want to take easy way out. Gonna look into backplane firmware update now.
  7. I pulled all drives out. I put in a known good 2tb drive after boot up and got this error in pic. So I never have tried to boot with all disk out and install 1 at time but it still did not work. I tried using the hdd that I had in there after boot up also and got this same error. So I know for sure now it's not hard drives issue. Either backplane or card. Cable is reading at least communicating when it sees something.
  8. Yes it has both connector powers at 1 and 9. I will try to get windows installed asap to check.
  9. The HP ProLiant DL180 G6 12-bay LFF drive backplane has a single 4-lane SFF-8087 SAS connector (See #4 on the graphic below). The backplane has an integrated SAS expander that accommodates the 12 bays. The expander actually supports 14-ports, with two backplane-mounted SATA connectors to interface to the rear-mount 2-drive cage option (HP #488234-B21). If you're interested in replacing your Smart Array P212 controller, you can safely use a Smart Array P410 or Smart Array P812 controller to accomplish your goal. Only one SFF-8087 port will be used
  10. I have read in different forums that the 9211-8i card can do up to 24 drives? That's only reason I got this card. How else can I do this then? I've seen people post that they just swapped raid cards to this and got all 12 drives working. Not to mention when I had the p410 card that came with system I only had 1 cable also and saw all 12 drives.
  11. Yes backplane has 12xports. And only 1 cable I'm using. And backplane does only have 1 input.
  12. You aren't butting in at all. Any suggestions are appreciated. When you say driver version p20 are you talking about the sas2flash version of p19 I used? As seen in pics above
  13. I am using a (SFF-8087) Serial ATA cable that goes from card to backplane of dl180 g6.
  14. Yes i can. It shows no disk. I looked everywhere under the volumes section. I have 12 2tb drives in server.
  15. So I reflashed and still don't see drives on freenas 9.3 running off my usb. Should I try the latest freenas version? I attached a second pic that shows freenas boot process and I see some of the drives. Listed there. Why or what should I try next? Kinda stuck now.
