  • Biography
I'm an avid aviation geek, smartphone wiz, and car enthusiast. By career, I'm an IT analyst and future programmer. I usually spend my time rebuilding phones! Building computers is a new time sink and love of mine. I like inventing things as well, so it’ll be fun applying that to computers!

I see the world through rosy shades while trying to stay firmly planted in reality. I set out to make my dreams come true. I love everyone and treat my friends and partners like family. I'm passionate in my interests and love to have awesome people to enjoy them with me. I'd love to adventure the world, try new things, and have a lot of fun along the way. :)

Ms Mercedes - Trijet Girl's Achievements

  1. I have the Global version of the Mix 2 and interestingly I don't have those weird software quirks. Netflix downloaded and installed from the Play Store like it would on any other Android. The one thing I wasn't so hot about with the phone was setting up the camera. Mine wanted to automatically "beautify" my selfies and left its watermark on everything. Blegh. Outside of that, I adore it more than the iPhone 8 I sold to get it.
  2. Mine’s a little insane. My favourite piece of tech for under $100 is a secondhand desktop machine. I like trying to see how much I can max them out on the cheap. My current toy is an old $30 Prime Systems school desktop. Since the board accepts any and all LGA775 CPUs, I gave it a cheap ($5) Xeon chip and I’ll shove in a $10 GTX 750 that I found in a thrift store. :3 Side note: This will be the second time that I caught a GTX 750 at the local thrift store, I wonder where these things are coming from. lol
  3. Assuming you haven’t made a desktop Frankenstein using an Alienware 17 R4 motherboard, you aren’t going to get an Evo 212 in there. However, @stateofpsychosis is correct, your lack of stability is likely coming from the undervolt. I did some research on the 1070 AWs and it seems they like to have cooling problems at stock settings. Most people seem to point at the CPU’s insane heat and Dell’s thermal paste. Thus, you’re pretty much left with these options: 1. Return it/sell it, get a laptop that can cool itself better. 2. Open it up and get better paste in there (voids warranty). 3. Try to undervolt less, possibly try external cooling solutions.
  4. From what I can tell, that option doesn't exist in 8.1 Embedded Industry Pro either. I looked at "Windows 9" builds after Linus' video and they all seem to use "Start Is Back" or "Classic Shell" to achieve that sweet Start Menu. The explanation appears to be that there isn't a Classic Start Menu option in any version of 8 and higher. Here's the LTT Official build guide. They used 10, of course. Edit: For clarification!
  5. No such option exists in Windows 8 and higher to restore the Windows 7 or earlier Start Menu.
  6. Possibly Classic Shell?? http://www.classicshell.net/
  7. You know, I continue to forget that there's a FreeGeek in my city (my memory sucks). I have to pay them a visit and maybe volunteer. I'll make a reminder or I'll forget again. lol
  8. I have! I sort of ran into the same issue. I was making a budget build just for fun and found boards that would (easily) work with the 8100 to drive up the cost too far for something I was basically building to sit still and look pretty.
  9. Quick question: when are you going to have a PC named after the L1011 Tristar? I noticed in your signature you had the DC-10 and a few others, but not the Tristar which really surprised me especially when I came to your profile and saw your cover photo.

Also, why you no Ford Trimotor?

Total of three system fans, including GPU and PSU. Air ducts to direct air over heatsinks. Be a pretty neat mod project.

Don't steal that idea, I am going to do that once I hit the mod spot. I'll take it to PDXLAN too.

Oh! That would be cool! No worrys, I won't! :) I'm still very new at building computers. My previous hobby was building iPhones from a pile of parts and doing hardware mods...Haven't quite gotten to that latter part with PCs yet!

Rebuilding PCs is a lot of fun, especially easy with old hardware from the Windows XP era since it's practically worthless, people don't charge much if anything for it. I actually have a 10 year old iMac coming my way sometime, so that'll be fun to tinker with

  10. I got a Ryzen 1300X for $99 on Black Friday and shoved it into my first ever PC build. I mainly use the PC for sims (FSX, TS, and soon XP11) and for the price I'm very happy. I built two more units, one with a Pentium G4400 and the other with a Core i3-7100. I'm impressed with what a cheap CPU can actually handle!
  11. Whoops! Good eye! I somehow missed that. I may have to take note for a future build, I love them!
  12. Beautiful case @Crunchy Dragon! There's even a white version of it too that looks pretty cool to me. With this kind of a budget though, I'd ask her what colours she would want in her PC.
  13. I dunno, if a guy bought me a $2k PC for the first date he'd probably have me hooked. Not entirely sure what that says about me.. lol
