  1. this is the possible deployment using unifi mesh ap's
  2. why cant i use these instead? https://store.ui.com/collections/unifi-network-access-points/products/unifi-ac-mesh-ap ptmp setup required much more hardware and is designed for higher throughput at longer distances also the mesh ap's will be about 75ft apart with clear line of sight
  3. not a good idea with farm equipment running around. would have to bury it and that would cost significantly more then setting up a mesh network
  4. a friends parents live on a farm and recently got a lte router. its a netgear m1 (MR1100). so far it works ok but he mentioned that they move it around to get wifi signal where they are. so between 3 buildings (house, garage, and barn) which are 75ft apart in a triangle. so i was thinking about making a "dock" for the lte router where it gets the best cellar signal and then scattering a few unifi mesh ap's around the property to make a mesh network. any suggestions?
  5. i actually have a server ups and a desktop ups that i can hook them to depending on what hardware i get
  6. thats currently what i use to have to do before i switched to charter who gave me the option to just get a modem. trying to eliminate as many bottle necks as possible. and as far as the guy said, norton comes installed on the gateway. i have found a few round about ways but if you ever lose power you have to set everything back up. so not a fan of that option lol. but basically appears that you connect the network switch in between the ont and gateway and once the gateway connects to the isp it will allow the connection to stay on even when the gateway is powered down? https://community.ui.com/questions/How-to-eliminate-ATandT-gateway-from-a-UniFi-setup/6f471739-7694-4512-9bb9-d1c8728d929f
  7. tried searching for this but not really coming up with anything useful. i am having my internet upgraded to at&t fiber 1g this weekend but saddly it comes with a crappy gateway (BGW210) and unneeded extra security (norton). for a while i have been considering switching to a ubiquiti network (probably unifi). really liking the dream machine pro. but can the dream machine pro replace the at&t gateway or do i have to keep it in the network? it appears that they install a at&t fiber service box which just converts the fiber to copper cat5e which connects to a ont port on the gateway. any ideas?
  8. the att uverse router/modem model number is 5268ac
  9. thats why i am considering it or the unifi ap ac lr. both are the same price as consumer hardware like asus but should clearly be better. actually the instant is the same price as the unifi ap ac lr so i can possibly get 2 or either
  10. i do not need remote monitoring or troubleshooting. i need a reliable network ap to extend the wifi signal
  11. just watched some videos and controller is only needed to modify the network. so i can install it on a laptop for setup and should work fine. so i think im sold on ubiquiti for his house. now should i get the amplifi instant set (router and ap) or get a unifi ap ac lr? also will they work with uverse tv?
  12. for my fathers house i am leaning more towards using the unifi instant for ease of setup and reliability https://amplifi.com/instant/
  13. im just amazed that wouldnt be built into the router. i understand why it wont be built into the other devices but i would think it would be in the router like most other routers. for my house i could probably use a linux vm on my server to run it.
  14. so you cant access it by entering the ip? i thought that was part of the router workload. i will setup a vpn but usually best practice to do any modifications over a wired connection incase something happens
  15. im up for that in my home but need something a bit more simple and reliable for my fathers home. if the internet drops out ill never hear the end of it lol
