Jormungandr_Upphaf reacted to DailyProcrastinator in gtx 1080 ti msi duke oc a good card?
It's not even Neweggs prices, it's some random 3rd party seller. Retail was never $1,700cad on these cards even during the crypto craze.

That's not retail though that's some random 3rd party seller. 1080 Ti's aren't available at established retailers anymore in Canada. That's like me selling a new unboxed 1080 Ti on Amazon for $1,700 and then people saying that's retail.

Current prices don't matter. The only reason they are that expensive is because it's no longer manufactured and Newegg thinks it's worth more because of that. Go back to before the Mining craze and it was probably what I said it was. Even after that.
@OttoVonBismarckLook buying used PC parts is just like buying a used car. Test drive it before you buy it. That's all. If it works, it works. If it has warranty left over, then even better.

From what I've heard, it's a good card. That seems awfully cheap though. I wish they sold cards like that in the US lol, I can barely find 1080 Tis for less than $550 US. As long as you can test it before buying then it's fine.
No... see above. Even new the car shouldn't have been more than ~$750. You can buy an equivalent card used for well under $600 US.

@Fourmi_Killer Do the right thing, report it. See what happens, and besides reporting it would help them identify a flaw in their system and they may thank you for it.

Check those out for why people like high ram speed.
As for your cpu of choice if you manly plan to just game i don't really see a reason to get an 8 core cpu. You could get a 8700k which is considered the best gaming processor right now and it has 6 cores. Gaming uses about 4 cores so having more beyond that won't really do much for performance, if you plan on video editing or things that will take advantage of more cores then by all means get the 7820X.

Jormungandr_Upphaf reacted to DarkSmith2 in Don't buy the 8600k
No i dont think that this is unacceptable due to the fact that intel does not guarantee any overclocking results. We dont know any discrete settings by the user just some numbers..., the fault can lie elsewhere. To say that its the CPUs fault is pretty easy and to a high degree speculation / missing knowledge by the guy who made the video.

Jormungandr_Upphaf reacted to kirashi in Don't buy the 8600k
I agree it's a problem, however, micro stutter (especially in games) is a result of poorly optimized code, not hardware. To be clear, I'm not saying the developers have done a bad job, but they can only test their code on a fixed development platform since it'd be unreasonable to expect them to test using every combination of motherboard, CPU, GPU, and RAM, not to mention with the millions of different software configurations out there.

stutters =/= physical CPU problem usually (how many people have a dud NEW cpu?)
either windows is taking a shit, using a hdd, nvidia drivers is shit, or gpu is dying

What? That's stupidly expensive (far over the budget in the post) and not good value for what it's needed for.
