  1. hi, did you eventually figure out? I currently similar issue like yours with the s5000psl.Is your machine up & running fully?
  2. so I tried and i think it worked, 3 preinstalled fans that came with case and the cpu fans were spinning. I powered it on and turned it off(long press) with power button on the case .The motherboard has built gpu with vga so I didnt put the external gpu I have and tried to use the onboard one but unfortunately nothing on the screen (it says no signal).any ideas on this? I only connected 24pin main power and 8pin cpu power cables. No hard drive yet. Another thing I'm wondering is , if the direction of fans on the cpus I have it is ok? when I powered it on I think if im correct both fans are blowing air through the heatsink so both hot air from both sinks meet in between two of them ,is that ok? or should I change one of the fan's direction and put one of the fans in the middle?the cpu cooler is coolermaster hyperT4.
  3. Im confused , can you write where each of these " 1)power sw (2 pins) 2)reset sw (2pins) 3) hdd +- (2pins) 4)power led + (1pin) 5) power led - (1pin " go with pin number. would a pic of the connector help?
  4. Im confused , can you write where each of these " 1)power sw (2 pins) 2)reset sw (2pins) 3) hdd +- (2pins) 4)power led + (1pin) 5) power led - (1pin " go with pin number. would a pic of the connector help?
  5. ok, but i still dont know where I plug most of them when I look at the table except(assuming it's right) : 5 FP_PWR_LED_N (=power led -),,, 9 LED_HDD_ACTIVITY_N (=hdd-) ,,,, 11 FP_PWR_BTN_N (=power sw-) where do the positive ones go? I cant see them in the table ( just a reminder, it is my first build)
  6. This picture is the front panel connector, it has 24pins and unfortunately not labeled so I'm dont know where I should plug each one.I have : 1)power sw (2 pins) 2)reset sw (2pins) 3) hdd +- (2pins) 4)power led + (1pin) 5) power led - (1pin). from this intel pdf on page 58 : ftp://ftp.sgi.com/public/Technical Support/Pdf files/Intel/s5000psl_tps_rev_12.pdf There is also a picture of motherboard on page 16 , if needed. "The server board provides a 24-pin SSI front panel connector (J1E4) 1 P3V3_STBY 2 P3V3_STBY 3 Key 4 P5V_STBY 5 FP_PWR_LED_N 6 FP_ID_LED_BUF_N 7 P3V3 8 FP_LED_STATUS_GREEN_N 9 LED_HDD_ACTIVITY_N 10 FP_LED_STATUS_A MBER_N 11 FP_PWR_BTN_N 12 NIC1_ACT_LED_N 13 GND 14 NIC1_LINK_LED_N 15 BMC_RST_BTN_N 16 SMB_SENSOR_3V3STB_DATA 17 GND 18 SMB_SENSOR_3V3STB_CLK 19 FP_ID_BTN_N 20 FP_CHASSIS_INTRU 21 FM_SIO_TEMP_SENSOR 22 NIC2_ACT_LED_N 23 FP_NMI_BTN_N 24 NIC2_LINK_LED_N" Do you have any idea about this?Once I figure I hope I can try to boot it up.
  7. What I like is to find what internal cables I will need ,exmaple sata for harddrive/ssd. I got No cables with this motherboard, but if we assume that I bought new mobo sealed box, it would most likely include some mobo cable/connector , corrert? Im not expert and I don't know a lot about this stuff. Also in that old thread, the op is asking about p12v5 , does this psu have a slot for that? Would I need a cable converter? And for the PSU,can you explain me what makes it not a good quality? I guess one of the reasons that it is %70smth efficiency maybe. am i correct ? what else in your opinion makes it not good? My initial goal for this build is to use with these current parts for 1 year, thats the maximum. I plan to either upgrade the psu first then the gpu or get rid of this build and get newer one after 1 year or even earlier depending on the budget situation. In short , this build is for mid-short term use.
  8. Hi W-L, this link is an old thread I found , the OP has same motherboard as mine and you gave some suggestions to OP, can you help me if you know anything about my issue? https://linustechtips.com/main/topic/606261-2x-molex-to-4pin-instead-of-p12v4/
  9. Hi, So most of the parts are you used, which is the reason of this post. The used ones don't have the usual cable/connectors that comes included in new package. Here is the parts I have: ================== Used: --------- Motherboard: Intel S5000PSL (no cables at all, no i/o shield) PSU: Solid Gear SDGR-750E ATX 750W (it is semi modular, still on delivery , I have no idea if it will include modular cables besides the non-modular ones, most likely it won't) GPU: PNY Nvidia GeForce 8400GS 1GB GDDR3 PCI-e (no cables at all) CPU: 2x Intel Xeon E5450 RAM: 32GB DDR2 ECC 667mhz SSD: 120Gb (the in my current pc) New: ------- Case: DIYPC Gamestorm-W with 3 x 120mm fans included CPU Cooler: 2x CoolerMaster Hyper T4 with 120mm fan each (I know it wont match the screw holes, I will try with to hold it with metal wires , if it doesnt work then will try zip ties) Here is link to official PDF for the mobo. Pages :16-17-18, you can see a picture, mechanical drawing with identifications of the drawing. ftp://ftp.sgi.com/public/Technical Support/Pdf files/Intel/s5000psl_tps_rev_1_4.pdf#[{"num"%3A36%2C"gen"%3A0}%2C{"name"%3A"XYZ"}%2C0%2C0%2Cnull] and this is for the PSU:http://www.solidgearusa.com/en/product_4/5/ After checking the picture, the drawing and the psu , can you list all the cables that I will need to power up this machine including any modular cables that might be missing from PSU (since I dont have it yet, I dont know if anything is missing or not). Any useful information would be appreciated. Thanks
  10. Is it ok to leave post as it is (unsolved, open)? Do I have to mark them solved and how?
  11. Hi, My simple question is : How do I close a post that I no longer need (solved or not solved ) or is it possible to delete the entire post ? If so , how? Thanks
  12. Hi, I got this old server with 2x Intel Xeon 5450 quad core 3Ghz 12Mb L2 cache and 32gb of ram. I tried to search but unfortunately pcprartpicker site doesnt have this processor or any LGA771 on its list. What I did was pulling information from another site (pc-spec) and use pcpartpicker when needed. I came up with most of the things except the psu ,cpu coolers, fans . one of the problems with pc-specs is although it has 771 motherboards it only lets me selects 1 cpu , which makes a problem for amount of psu needed. Plus I was not able to find the same amount and setup of ram that I have but I found similar DDR2 667mhz. Here is the list I have: 1)Intel Xeon Processor E5450: when I first added the cpu alone its showed it needed about 104watt. http://www.pc-specs.com/cpu/Intel/Xeon/Xeon_Processor_E5450_/2059 2) Intel S5000PSL:after the I added the motherboard the estimated watt was about 251watt. On Intel's webstie it says this motherboards needs at least 550watts http://www.pc-specs.com/mobo/Intel/Intel_S5000PSL/3660 3) What I have is 32GB DDR2 667mhz (8x 4GB ) but since this combo doesnt exist on the site I put something similar in speed and DDR version. I put 8GB (2x 4GB) ECC DDR2 667mhz.After adding the memory ,the watt needed jumped by 23watt. http://www.pc-specs.com/ram/Komputerbay/Komputerbay_8GB_(4x_2GB)_DDR2_PC2-5300F_667MHz_CL5_ECC_Fully_Buffered_2Rx4_FB-DIMM_(240_PIN)_w~_Heatspreaders/32 4)For Gpu , Nvidia GeForce GTX 550 Ti. It says 116watt needed to power ,but after adding it ,the estimate jumped buy 151watts. http://www.pc-specs.com/gpu/Nvidia/500_Series/GeForce_GTX_550_Ti/483 5)As for storage I have PNY ssd which already is in use and since I dont know its specs besides being 120gb , I put PNY XLR8 SSD 120GB. It says ,that needs 5watt, after adding jumped by 7watt. http://www.pc-specs.com/storage/PNY/XLR8_SSD_120GB/576 6)SInce the mobo is Eatx I found this one: DIYPC Gamestorm-W. It comes with 3 fans 120mm. http://www.pc-specs.com/case/DIYPC/DIYPC_Gamestorm-W/2835 7) I cant decide on the psu, since Im not sure about the required power. Currently with all these, the estimate on site is 432 watts, plus if I add another 104 for cpu ,3x23 for ram to make it 32gb, it is already 609 watts. and I still have the cpu coolers and their fan to worry about. I narrowed down my list to some psu and all of them are 80+ Bronze (hope Bronze is enough for this creation), ranging from 700 to 900 watts ( used and new): Thermaltake SMART Series SP-750PCBUS 750W ATX 12V v2.4 / EPS v2.92 80 PLUS BRONZE Corsair CX750W Modular ATX Rosewill Glacier 700W 80 PLUS BRONZE ATX12V Crossfire Rosewill 700watt RV2-700 RAIDMAX HYBRID 2 RX-730SS 730W ATX12V V2.2/ EPS12V SolidGear ATX 750watts SDGR-750E SolidGear 900watts SDGR-900E XION XON-850P14F High Performance 850WPower supply EVGA - 850W Modular BQ Any advice would be appreciated. which one is better and suits the best? These cpus has no turboost and I think runs always at 3Ghz, does that mean I will need more power source? 8)Any advice on cpus coolers? which type goes best with this cpus? Do fans come with coolers usually? if not ,advice on fans would be appreciated too. Hopefully , I will be able to order everything before this weekend and the pc will be up by next week. Thanks ..
  13. Thanks for replying. How do I verify that? from the minimum requirements section of the software? I have worked audio editing programs such as ProTools,LogicPro,Abelton on mac pro which had dual quad core. But for AdobeCreative I worked on an iMac which usually is a single cpu. But if I can't use this motherboard or find a compatible dual cpu motherboard , I might end up with using only 1 cpu on a single cpu compatibile motherboard, which i'm ok with it. As long as I can run a machine for editing purposes that will hold for some time.
  14. Thanks for replying. The possible parts are : 2 cpu , the rams. How about the heatsinks? How about the motherboard options? In case there is difficulty to find a dual cpu motherboard I am ok with using only 1 cpu on a single cpu motherboard if it is possible and will make it easier to find new compatible motherboard.
