  1. I see you're using an after market battery, perhaps it's spitting out more power than the official one. Normally performance on mains is higher than on battery. Can't put my finger on what's going on.
  2. Check power management settings in control panel. The mains power settings might be set to use less power. It's also possible that to charge the battery, the CPU doesn't get the full power draw.
  3. Battery is dead, try removing the battery and powering it off mains power only. There are several tricks to revive a dead battery, I have heard that freezing the battery for an hour or so can revive them. Before you try anything whats the model number of your laptop?
  4. £500 would get you a decent i3 laptop from HP, Dell or Lenovo. You could also look into the Surface Go (128gb model) if she likes the tablet form factor. also 2 in 1's are an excellent idea if the surface go is too under powered (but still fast for office ect.) There's a handful here in Curry's https://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/computing/laptops/laptops/315_3226_30328_xx_ba00012875-bv00311086/1_20/price-desc/299-499-criteria.html (assuming you live in the UK because £'s)
  5. I'd say the first HP model with the SSD and 4GB 1050 would be the best bet (really nice battery too!), Lenovo typically aren't great with batteries. A hard drive on it's own will make the laptop sluggish. first choice is well worth the €800
  6. It's a good price, I'd say sell it, price will only get lower. If you're tempted by a mac book, throw $20 or 30 in a jar every week and build up the "Mac Fund" then spoil yourself in February or March next year.
  7. OK, most of those games will run on integrated graphics. If you want a little more headroom for gaming look at the Ryzen 5 2500U over the i5 8250U. Ryzen has a stronger iGPU than Intel. Something like an Asus Vivobook or Acer Swift 3 should work nicely for your budget.
  8. For that budget there's a boat load of i5 8250U/8300H with MX150/1050 graphics. (for mx150) Not a gaming rig by any means, but the graphics are competent enough for 720/1080p low gaming. If you want an "all day battery" (over 6 hours) go for the U series. If you want near desktop levels of CPU performance go H series. Pretty much anything you like from Dell, Hp, Asus, Acer, ect. should fulfill your needs with a budget that flexible
  9. €500 gaming laptops don't exist (well, they do on the second hand market but I'm assuming you want to buy new), while €500 converts to roughly $580 US, most retailers in Europe include tax in their prices. What games do you intend to play? Some games will get away with Intel UHD 620
  10. There's no solution to this that doesn't involve sexual innuendo. If you have an old well used usb stick or cable that's been worn down over time, stick it in and out a few times to loosen the port.
  11. That honestly depends on if you really want a 2-in-1. For raw performance save your money and go with the non flip. The 1080p screen will be really nice for movies on the flip. I know you like Asus, but you could look within the price range of the first 15" vivobook with a 1080p display. No 1080p display is worth an extra $350 Canadian. (unless its got 100% srgb and 120Hz refresh rate ?)
  12. The AMD C-50 was never a fast chip. odds are your slowdown is because of a full/dying hard drive, dried up thermal paste causing throttling, or low RAM. Best recommendation is to either upgrade to an SSD, or (if you dont want to spend money) defragment the disk or do a fresh windows install. The no display could be because of a faulty display adapter or loose mobo connections. Was water spilled on the Compaq, i know several laptops that when water damaged power on but are dead and don't boot. Sorry about the delay
  13. Honestly for around €1700 pretty much anything with a 7/8th get H series i7 and a GTX 1060 will do. What's the big/main tech retailer in Sweeden? If you want good battery, you might need to drop down to a 1050ti, most 1060 laptops offer 6hrs max (might be higher if you disable discrete graphics in the bios for days when you need long life)
