  1. More than likely I will just tell him to try and save up an extra 100 dollars for the monitor so he can get the most well-rounded system. I almost feel an SSD is necessary for modern systems
  2. I will probably include the 6GB variant and make a few little sacrifices elsewhere.
  3. I am just going to find a decent 1080p 60 Hz panel for him as it's all he will need. I told him to focus on building the PC first and worry about fancy peripherals later. So he is going to stick with the membrane dell keyboard and wireless mouse for now.
  4. Pretty solid build, thanks for the list! I just wish everyone who would ask me to part out a pc would put into account peripherals. If he didn't need a monitor the 1700 would be in the price range.
  5. I am having a little trouble picking out a CPU and GPU for a friend's PC. He doesn't want to spend more than 900 USD including a monitor (so we are going to say the budget is 800 USD assuming I can find a pretty decent monitor) He is going to do both gaming and some video editing. I would say it's a 70/30 split as to which he would be doing more of, and he would only be working with 1080p/4k GoPro footage and 1080p screen captures. I was considering the Ryzen 5 1600 due to its better multithreaded performance at its price point. He would not be doing any gaming above 1080p 60fps so I assume the slight edge Intel's solutions have in gaming would likely not be relevant here? And I am going to assume we will be stuck with getting a 1050TI just with how pricing is currently for other options. Thanks for any suggestions
  6. The first thing you should decide is the resolution and refresh rate you are looking for on your monitor. That will correlate to what GPU you should buy to push that resolution and framerate and how you will need to divide up your remaining money
  7. https://www.amazon.com/Rokinon-DS50M-C-Frame-Canon-Cameras/dp/B00N5TM2FY/ref=gbps_tit_m-6_f45d_1f320405?smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_p=c624455a-ed52-4f78-9f81-675ed6faf45d&pf_rd_s=merchandised-search-6&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_i=13887280011&pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_r=P2BC68CHZXTEBKX3QMTA this camera lens is 359 from 539 USD I have no idea about photography so it might actually suck?
  8. I have discovered a keyboard shortcut in Win10 I did not know even existed. If I am on the desktop and hit Ctrl + Shift + # all the icons on my desktop are resized and rearranged in various ways. Is there any way to disable this shortcut? I would like to use the Ctrl + Shift + # shortcuts for another program but it messes up my desktop. Thanks
  9. The selection of orange cases is low and he really likes that case. Also, the selection of Z170 Micro-ATX boards are slim on newegg; however, your point is valid. I just looked on newegg again and found a micro-atx board I didn't see last time I check (not sure why) I have updated the list. As for the PSU I want to give him a little head room incase he wants to upgrade to a different card in the future. Edit: Here is the new link http://pcpartpicker.com/list/6P7Zf8 pcpartpicker isn't cooperating
  10. If I am going with the 1060 I should also be able to get a 650 watt psu instead, yes? That should shave 30 or so dollars off.
  11. A SSD is a pretty standard component in builds now for Operating System and other programs. He specifically requested one.
  12. My friend has requested I help him pick some parts for a new build. I have most of the parts finalized but I am not sure what to get him GPU wise. I've included the current list, but I don't know if the R9 390 is the best choice for his price point. I was also looking at the 970 or 1060. The MAX he is willing to spend is roughly 1200 USD. He only will be doing 1080p but wants to push ultra settings. He also wants the PC to be HTC Vive ready, but I do not know if this is possible at his price point. A black shrouded card would be preferable so the inside stays color neutral with the orange. http://pcpartpicker.com/list/MhFx6X Thank You, Austin
  13. Have you tried either? Is there one you prefer over the other? Are the tenores any better than the Brainwavz?
  14. I am in the market for a new pair of earbuds(or IEMs) for casual listening I have a 40 dollar gift card for Amazon. Unfortunately that will include shipping costs so I was wondering what you guys could point me to around the 30-35 dollar range? Bass is important but I don't want it to overpower the highs and mids. I am not expecting anything superb at this price range but I figured I could get something decent. Wired or bluetooth are fine; I do not have a preference. Thanks, -Austin
  15. Currently using a GATEWAY membrane keyboard, some off-the-shelf wireless logitech mouse, some random walmart mousepad, and a Logitech G930 Headset
  16. IMO it wouldn't be worth the trouble. If you start noticing temp issues might just be time to order a new cooler.
  17. Problem is the school would probably notice the laptop isn't configured how it was issued. Could likely cause OP some issues.
  18. It probably was not in your best interest to try and fix a school computer on your own. You need to turn it in and explain the problem.
  19. This approach would work but will this run every time the source directory is updated? If a photo is put in folder A I would like it automatically synced to folder B. Also, if possible, if said file is removed I would like it removed from folder B. I just need a real time mirror kept of directory A for backup purposes.
  20. I currently use the default windows backup to do scheduled backups of data on drive to another Backup drive. However, It has several disadvantages: Slow Copies EVERYTHING again, regardless if it is changed or not. Stores backups in hundreds of zip files making access to the files difficult. I want to know if there is a free software solution to mirror the files from a folder in my D: drive to a folder on the backup drive. It would need to run 24/7 and sync every change to the folder on D: Thanks, Austin
  21. Trying to help a friend out with his build. This would help a lot.
  22. This fixed this issue. Wasn't straight forward on my laptop to switch from public to private (I ended up using powershell commands). After all that my desktop firewall had all file transfer protocols blocked for private networks and I had to go through and activate a ton of rules to get it working. Either way works great now. Thanks For the Help
  23. For both computers I turned the wifi off so they were only connected to LAN. I can ping the computers from each other; however, neither computer is showing up on the others network and I cannot connect to the shared drive via name or I.P. Both are uniquely named
  24. Hey sorry it took me so long, was on vacation. This solved my lack of internet connectivity but now the laptop can not access the shared network drives over lan. I put the laptop in airplane mode to deactivate the wifi so only the lan connection is active. When I try to access the drives Windows tells me "The local device name is already in use." Any idea why?
