  1. Will LinusMediaGroup add femme merch for his girl fans? I wanted Linus themed sports bra to start with. That was Linus is closed to my heart ?
  2. Thanks for the suggestions so far, I'm having trouble knowing exactly what to buy. Could someone link me to a case, boards, power supply, and whatever else I need? (An all-in-one package would be great). Beyond that it's just a matter of it being quiet. I read that there are aftermarket fans that are nearly silent. I want this server to be at home so I have instant access (compared to co-location where I'd need to pay a monthly fee for power and internet plus rent for the actual space).
  3. Hi. I am looking to get a small server at home for virtualization. Specifically it will run the hypervisor known as Proxmox. As far as specs go I would like to see around 12 or more cores and 64GB or more of RAM. SSD/HDD Storage is negotiable. Since this server will be at home it needs to be quiet. I've seen (horrifying) videos of how loud these servers can get, I live with siblings at home and also am sensitive to noise myself. I'm looking to spend around $500~ on used hardware on a site like eBay or similar. To be clear it does not have to be server hardware but does need to support strong virtualization. Another request I'll add is it's energy efficient. Last thing I want to do is spike our electric bill at $0.13/kWh. I appreciate any advise on if such a server exists (even if we're using consumer motherboards).
  4. I have a Macbook Pro early-2015 Retina 13" Model running Windows 10 Pro. I've noticed it often gets hot and have tried quite a few things to get it to cool down. Suggestions I'm not open to: Sell and buy a different computer. Reduce your workload (sorry but web development IDEs and such put heavy load on my system and are needed for my college courses). Things I've tried: Running the fans at max: Sadly, even with the fans maxed the CPU cannot cope with the temperature under maximum load on the CPU. So running the fans faster is not a solution. Due to Apple's weird "Design" choices traditional cooling pads and these new "fan vacuums" I've heard about do not help any. I successfully undervolted the CPU, Cache, and GPU by -50.8mV. I also disabled turbo-boost. This reduced the temperature significantly where it's no longer uncomfortable to use the system for a long period of time due to heatups. With the help of the fans, under normal load, the computer now averages between 45 degrees C and 65 degrees C. So the problem is starting to get resolved. So this is better but can it be great. I'm definitely a fan of undervolting now. I plan to buy thermal paste or liquid metal in hopes of further reducing the temperature. Being a 2015 computer it's quite possible that the factory paste has dried up and is no longer useful. Starting the discussion: With these common suggestions out of the way - lets start the discussion of more exotic and extreme ways of cooling the system. It kinda breaks the whole mac look and feel but I'm open to pretty much anything at this point to get the issue resolved. Take apart the Macbook and put it inside a custom case with water cooling setup in a way where it won't harm the components due to water damage. Take apart the Macbook and put it inside a custom case (larger) with proper heatsinks, etc. Custom case that puts the components inside mineral oil? Like I said I'm desperate and will try anything. Any other suggestions the community has? I'm looking forward to all the crazy ideas the community can come up with. Thanks in advance Screenshots:
  5. Honestly with old hardware you should install a Linux OS (I recommend Debian) and start saving up. As hardware ages it loses performance, gets hot faster, and newer software puts an even greater demand than before on it. Good luck mate!
  6. If they made a low cost Switch for say $250 I'd buy but at the $300+ price tag it's too expensive for most of us to buy. Back to pacifying myself with 3DS.
  7. Has anyone managed to get a disk image of this?
  8. You would need to check your forum's input against a set of IF Statements or use a PHP Switch, if statements are easier for beginners but end up with messy code over time.
