  1. 100% not a "bottleneck" or any other "you shouldnt have bought it" type thing... you have a FAULT. once you fix the fault you'll enjoy much higher framerates from your top end GPU
  2. its either the fan failed or the card not supplying power to the fan failed. try a different fan on the same connector or try a different connector on the same fan to identify the source of the problem.
  3. its the power supply i'd want to re-use as it has a TFX power supply with a 14pin mobo connector. if i swap to an ATX power supply im looking at £50 for the PSU and £15 for the adapter. so thats £65 worth of stuff i don't actually need
  4. thanks that does seem compatible, but its got the same aesthetics as the current OEM case so no reason to swap it. I was thinking something along the lines of a more traditional "gamer" look to appeal to the kids. as for swapping to normal ATX, that's certainly possible, just adds additional cost.
  5. any idea of a nice modern case that'll take a TFX power Supply (with or without an adapter bracket to SFX/ATX) and mATX motherboard? just thinking about what i could transplant a Lenovo OEM system into
  6. I think it’s very low end and still won’t be good enough for you. Have a look on your local second hand market and see if there are any deals going. for context i’m Looking at selling a complete i7-3770, 16gb, 1050ti system for £400-500 and that will blow your £200 new system into the weeds. you can pick up useable second hand GPUs for the £50 mark no need to buy a new 1050ti
  7. i promise you i understand how this works, we are not lying. there are hardware limitations at play here you cannot get around in software. back in the day is relevant as this used to be a thing us old people dealt with. i'm from the enterprise server world where things like PAE, /3GB and all that sort of stuff grew up. hell, i can remember when we had problems with anything above 640K of RAM... lol
  8. the top end core i5 models like the 7600k are still solid performers in gaming and sell for significantly less. if youre on a budget then look into these. i wouldnt buy new tho as prices are silly, look on the secondhand market, especially stores that trade in second hand gear (like CEX in the UK) from what i can tell there's no huge differences between the 6th and 7th gen intel processors, just features you clearly dont use as you dont currently have them. So also consider a 6000 series top end i5/i7 if the price is right. i have no personal experience tho, i jumped from 3rd gen to 8th gen
  9. there is still a possibility that if you create the DOS boot disk in a way that works, you can update this BIOS and it MIGHT (probably wont tho) work but the TLDR is that even if you could, you'd still want a new PC [OLD MAN MODE] ps Stefan is correct, you kids don't know how easy you have it with PCs nowadays [/OLD MAN MODE]
  10. such a stupid word that people just throw around without understanding it. look, either of those cards will work fine for you and you'll probably be happy with the performance. could you eek a few more frames out with a better CPU? probably? will you care? unlikely.
  11. don't forget you also have the top of the case AND the bottom of the case for rad mounting. i mean those are your only choices really. at least as youre using AIOs yoi can just try moving them all around till you find what fits best
  12. What about adding a 24inch monitor, keyboard, mouse? Not gaming stuff just 60hz monitor, low end g series mouse and decent membrane keyboard. add 50? 75? What’s a 24inch 60hz monitor worth nowadays?
  13. still worth ditching the 4GB module and swapping for an 8gb. CEX sell DDR3 super cheap https://uk.webuy.com/product-detail/?id=smem9qaeb just buy the same speed as your other 8GB stick. you dont need a matched kit
  14. sorry mods, posted in wrong place, can you pretty please with cherries on top move it? xxx
  15. I recently got some gearVR Lenses for my VIVE and I'm really strugglnig with "barrel distortion" i cant get steamvr-undistort to fire up and it seems like and profile i download off the internet to download seems to have no noticeable effect! the horizontal distortion is bearable, but the vertical is super bad. i'm sure its possible to fix this but im really struggling with HOW
  16. no problem. to be honest youre better off getting a different PC anyway, even with more memory your system still wouldnt do well. might be worth a few quid to sell on facebook marketplace/craigslist.
  17. I've got a few spare servers with E5-2670 Processors (8c 2.6ghz) and DDR3-EEC memory and i'm tempted to take one and build a PC out of it. Thing is i literally have no use case for another PC, its more of a "i'm bored and i want to tinker" kind of project. i've got some SSDs and Fans knocking about thing is, just a basic case, cooler, PSU will still set me back £100 ontop of a £100 AliExpress chineese x79 board. so thats £200 to build a PC i dont actually want/need. plus i'll need a GPU of some description, best i've got spare is a Quadro NVS! any thoughts on this? Would an 8c 16t 2.6Ghz Xeon System be worth anything on the 2nd hand market? maybe i could build it and flog it? 18. the motherboard secures the case on STANDOFFS which are themselves removable/replaceable. remove the motherboard and then you can swap the standoff for a fresh one or just leave it out entirely, itll probbaly be fine
  19. not sure. sound like MAYBE it managed to boot. try deleting the AUTOEXEC.BAT file from the USB drive and booting it. it should boot up into a DOS prompt (something like C:\> ) the autoxec.bat just triggers the firmware update automatically, so without it you can manually triegger it by typing AWDFL882.EXE W7358MLN.11D /Py /Sn /Cd /Cp /Cc /E /R if it still doesnt boot without autoexec.bat on the drive, then the USB still isnt properly bootable
  20. it *should* yes. that tool has the ability to make a bootable dos drive!
  21. no, that means rufus steps didnt work. try googling for some "make bootable DOS usb rufus" guides just a thought. make sure its set to FAT32 not NTFS
  22. Honestly it’s LOADS different nowadays. Requires very little tech knowledge to do it and it’s super safe as very few buttons you can press could ever do hardware damage. the only real concern is having a cooler sufficient to keep the processor running cool when it’s pushing out extra heat from the extra clocks. as an example on my 8700k system I had to click one ‘auto overclock’ button and it took my system from stock 4.6 single core turbo to 5.2ghz all core! thats mental amounts of free performance
  23. What is it your current pc isn’t doing for you that you want to improve? In order to advise on what you should do we need to know what you’re currently u happy with. your current system is already very nicely specced and competent gaming machine so it’s difficult to guess what what you could do to improve it without guessing your requirements.
