  1. Selling my wife's trusty 2012 11 inch MBA (i5, 4gb RAM, 128gb SSD). I am wondering what to do with regards to wiping it and factory resetting it. The safest thing for all the data is going to be to wipe it and factory reset it right? Only issue is that I guess that will put the machine back to whatever version of MacOS it shipped with. Currently it is running El Capitan. If I completely reset it, would the person buying it have no choice but to update it to the latest OS? Technically, according to Apple website this version of the MBA will support it but I imagine the experience may not be so great with those specs and the laptops age? I may be wrong. Is there a safe way to leave it running El Capitan with regards to my wifes data? Cheers!

  3. I am an Apple Music user, I really like Tidal but AM works better with all my apple products (fan boy alert) and paying for both seems a little wasteful... Although I have for some periods. I have a pair of Grado sr325e's which I love and am wondering if buying something like a Dragonfly Red or Cobalt would be worth it for use with my mac and iphone. I have a Audioengine HD3s in my PC set up which has a half decent headphone amp/dac so I will continue to use that there. I had a Red before and it made a difference with lossless Tidal tunes but I stupidly sold it. Anyone use something like this with AM or Spotify etc?
  4. Yeah that is going to be my tactic i think. Any suggestions on what a good CPU would be for a Z370 mobo and just wanted to use air cooling? I have a cryorig H7.
  5. Thanks for all the responses! I think I am probably leaning towards a 1440p 144Hz monitor to be honest. There seem to be pretty mixed responses as to whether the i5 8400 would be much of a bottleneck. I am not totally convinced it would be really, besides, something has to bottleneck doesn't it
  6. is that actually true? There are plenty of laptops that have 1080p 144Hz screens that have processors in them that will not sustain 3.8ghz on 6 cores.
  7. Evening all, Just wanted to gauge a bit of opinion about what people would lean towards in my situation. Just bought a 5700 XT, seemed to be my best option for around £400. I want to now get a more gaming specific monitor with FreeSync, my current Dell U2715H is a good monitor but has no FreeSync/g sync and only 60Hz. As someone who is a casual gamer, mainly play games like RDR2, GTA, think I might start The Witcher 3. Basically games with a good story/campaign. But currently don't play any multiplayer games but thinking of dabbling in Call of Duty for that. Rest of system is i5 8400, 16GB 3000MHz RAM, 650W PSU. I would like to avoid any further major upgrades for at least 2-3 years. The Dell monitor will be repurposed as a "work" monitor to be connected to MBP, so this monitor will be about gaming. Budget is up to around £500. Would you get a 1080p 24 or 25 inch to get higher FPS and better longevity or 27 inch 1440p? I know it is all up to me but just wanted to see what other people would do.
  8. Recently bought the Sapphire Nitro+ version of this card. Use it for playing 1440p on a Dell U2715H monitor (no freesync/g-sync). i5-8400 and 16gb of 3000mhz RAM. I have been playing red dead 2, great game but like others have stated in reviews, seems to be pretty poorly optimised. I have had quite a few crashes and it stutters a lot. Changing from vulkan to DX12 seems to have stopped the crashing. My FPS have been 50-60 with a mix of high and medium settings with occasional drops down to 30-40. To see if there was any bottlenecking I opened the game in windowed mode and opened task manager. While playing my CPU seems to be at about 50% and my GPU between 50-65%. I am new to all this but it seems if my GPU is only working at that capacity why isn't it working a bit harder and keeping my FPS at 60 all the time?
  9. I went with the sapphire nitro. Purely based on looks if I am honest, I was weighing up the same ones as OP. I wasn’t a fan (no pun intended) of the black and red colour scheme. The nitro looks ace though! I keep it in the silent bios and very happy.
  10. Ok so I am not completely mad by the sounds of it! Seems the best of both worlds to be honest. Windows updates just annoy me, OneDrive keeps being a bag of shit but only on the PC seems to work perfectly on the Mac which is ironic. Plus I have tried to like windows laptops but returned a good few, they just aren’t as good as MacBooks (although the Mac keyboard is balls) as an overall package, IMO. Although Razer Blade Stealth came very close.
  11. When I retired my 2011 MacBook Pro last year I built a PC because I thought it would be a fun project and it was! And it reintroduced me to gaming, which is a nice relaxant for me. But for work and daily duties I have not been able to prefer windows over Mac OS. So I bought a second hand MacBook Pro. For file organisation, emails, any productivity stuff I just much prefer the Mac, plus I have an iPhone so there is that. I’m thinking of creating a set up with a his and hers desk, my wife can use the PC for work and I will have a separate monitor to attach my mac to. When she isn’t using the PC for work I can use it for games but all other duties will be on the Mac. Anyone do anything vaguely similar?
  12. Hi, I am going to be changing my office set up shortly, my current Dell U2715H 27" monitor will go onto a second desk and will be used as a monitor for a Macbook, I prefer using Mac OS for work so that is what I will do there. The new monitor will be hooked up to my PC (i5-8400, 16GB 3000mhz RAM, RX 5700 XT... fyi). It will be used for gaming primarily but I also would like to be able to edit photos on it if I want to and the very occasional home video editing project. I do print my photos and would like to get a screen that is a bit more accurate for printing. I am really struggling to find this "do it all" monitor, unsurprising really. The easiest solution is to have the really colour accurate monitor for the mac right? Maybe. Only thing is all my horsepower is in the PC, my current macbook pro is a 13" dual core, 8gb... fine for most things but limited for some. I'd love a new 16" MBP but can't justify that cost right now. My research so far has led me to the Razer: I am a big fan of the design and will eagerly await more reviews when it is for sale in the UK. Would really appreciate any other suggestions, the brief is: - long term investment so up to £7-800 is ok but of course rather spend less! - ideally 1440p, would go to 1080p if the other boxes were ticked - as much colour accuracy as possible - At least 75Hz, ideally 144Hz - Freesync essential Cheers!
  13. the only thing that came in the box was a "quick installation guide" which doesn't mention it.
