  1. I have just straight up carefully yanked drives out of a docking station, then just wait for drive to spin down before tilling them over. Though generally I power off the dock and weight for spindown.
  2. If you need to get your data back you need another OS install from different drive to do so. IF you wipe that drive your data goes bye bye. No chance of recovery. If you just wanna format the drive, create a windows boot disk, boot from it and press shift + 10 diskpart list disk select <disk number of your drive> clean Close the window proceed with install.
  3. Unless the drive is dying or infested with malware it will not affect the new machine.
  4. Did you try to check your boot order? what happens when you try to boot from the boot menu?
  5. Please pull your data off you drive and replace it. Drives can die at any time. I have just had a new 20TB Exos drive die on me and it is not even 6 months old. Backup and replace.
  6. decent 1080p performance on most game medium to max settings depending on the game.
  7. Kickass plex server. If you wanna game, throw a 5800x3d in there, 3080/4070 call it a day. Fresh install of W11 on it.
  8. I ended up with a pair of XS'. I am really pleased with them.
  9. The OG focals are way outside my budget. Same for several of the others you have mentioned. 500 dollars may be 6 if I am pushing it is all I am willing to go after. The others I am going to check out. Issue is planar magnetic headphones I find fatiguing after a while. I tried a few pairs at Audio46 in NYC for about 30 minutes. They started giving me an ear ache.
  10. I have been using a pair of Q701s for many years now (11-13 years now). They are getting long in the tooth - 2 sets of ear pads, a new band and I rewired them after the wires started breaking. I am looking for some new headphones. I LOVE the sound staging these guys provide and personally prefer open back vs closed back headphones. However, I am openminded toward that. I use a Schiit Hel 2 for my DAC/Amp. My budget is around $500-$600 USD. Headphones I have considered - DT 1990 Pro, HD 660S2 or something around there.
  11. My main raid recovery system at work now has 100TB of storage in it.... and I am running out of room. I have about 300TB of storage on premesis and am usually about half full on most of my sytstems.
  12. iPhone, Apple Watch, AirPods and iPad. Use to have a mac. I use them ebcause they just work and I like the ecosystem. Good quality, I can get them fixed just about anywhere. Warranty support is top notch. Android is great but you never know what you are going to get per device. Apple, you know what you will have.
  13. I didn't take him as being a shill but instead an honest opinion. But whatever.
  14. Why are you buying them from china? Just buy them domestic. Besides you have to pay not only shipping but import tax on them. The price evens out.
  15. SSDs can fail in a number of ways. I have seen degraded NAND, failed NAND, firmware failures, controller failures, component level failures and everything in between. However, most SSDs die without warning.
  16. That sounds like the drive intializing and coming ready. Check smart? If the drive is suspect at all copy your data off.
  17. Bitrot is a thing but most SSDs can retain data for years. I have SSDs that are 5-6 years old that I haven't touched. Plug em in and data is still there. Same for flash drives. They do degrade over time but it takes a long time.
  18. Possible they became lost because file system is damaged. I would run some kind of data recovery software on it like R-Studio. See what it finds. Make sure it is from another system and you save it a different disk. Otherwise not sure without looking at it. I am hesitant to offer a check disk.
  19. I would not do that. If the raid breaks you are in deep shit. If a drive dies you are in deep shit. If a drive desyncs you are in deep shit. Otherwise fast no redunancy and basically yoloing. Have a backup. SSDs suck to recover from. OH and raid has no support for TRIM but that shouldn't be to much of an issue. Modern drives have trim enabled on the device itself + on the file system.
  20. Put games on faster storage but it doesn't matter. Just setup steam to have two library locations and done. I have: 1) WD SN750 - Gen 3 500GB - OS 2) SP XS700 4TB Gen 4 SSD - Games 3) Micron 7450 U.3 SSD - 3.84TB - Data/Games No issues.
