  1. Steve at Hardware Unboxed talks about this very subject..
  2. I'm jumping ship from Intel's i7 4790k to come back to AMD.. I was holding out for a 2700x, but slickdeals posted a 1700x for $149 and had to jump on it. My Asus Crosshair VII Hero MB and G.Skill Flair X memory will be here this coming week. The 1700X will hold me over until they release Ryzen 2 next spring... Any of the Ryzen 7's would be a good choice...
  3. Hard to justify replacing it right now. It does everything I need it to do. Other than gaming which it does very well, I only use Photoshop and Lightroom and it has no problems with those tasks... Think I just have an itch to build a new system...
  4. Its a Phanteks Entho Primo case. Here's the build log from over 3 years ago. At the time I was using a Radeon 290x and later added a second 290x for crossfire. I recently replaced the PSU with a Seasonic Ultra Prime PSU. https://www.overclock.net/forum/161-computer-cases/1557043-my-phanteks-enthoo-primo-build.html I guess its just been so long between builds I'm looking for an upgrade to something that still works well for what I do... I'm wanting to go back to AMD and will make that move next year with the next gen Ryzen series... Thanks everyone for the posts...
  5. I only use Distilled water and a few drops of PT Nuke Biocide in my loop and always will. Thanks
  6. Have been looking at comparisons on you tube and it seems to hold its own. It overclocks well to 5ghz, but I keep it at 4.8ghz 24/7 and has been on water since birth... Running a flashed/overclocked Vega 64 GPU also on water since birth.. Thanks everyone.
  7. I picked up an HP computer new from Walmart for a cheap clearance price. Inside it has a i7 7700 non k cpu, 16gb of hynix 2400mhz memory. My main system has a 4790k on an Asus Maximus VII Hero MB. Would it be worth picking up a Z170 MB and replacing my 4790k and MB? Thank you
  8. Roger.. Thank you both for posting...
  9. Forgot to ask.. Would it be worth it going from an 860 EVO 500gb SSD to this for gaming?
  10. I have an Asus Maximus VII Hero MB and 4790k mounted on it. Would I be able to take full advantage of say a Samsung EVO 970 M.2 card on my Z97 platform? Which would be better the M.2 socket or a PCI-e adapter card in the x4 slot? If used in a PCI-e x4 slot would it effect my graphics card in the x16 slot? Thank you
  11. As much as I want to go back to AMD with Ryzen I find my 4790k paired with a Vega 64 more than enough to run any game I throw at it with ultra/very high settings and connected to a 1440p, 144hz, freesync monitor it is buttery smooth..
  12. I just purchased a new monitor (Pixio New PX277) that's connected to my sig rig. I watched a lot of reviews before buying and all recommend not to use the supplied display port cable so I'm using the one linked below from Newegg. When gaming out of the blue the screen will go black for about 2 sec. then come back on and every now and then it will keep happening.I guess the cable I'm using could be the problem. What DP cable are others using without issue?Could someone recommend a good cable to try before sending the monitor back to the manufacturer.https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16812423118Thank youMark
  13. ome may already know this, some may not..I contacted Asus about the new BIOS to repair the Spectre vulnerability issue for my Hero VII motherboard and was told they are working their way backwards to produce the BIOS for each motherboard. If you contact them you can have your phone number/email added to the contact list once the BIOS has been released for the MB you have.Contact them at: (812)282-2787 in the US.
  14. I have been wanting to go back to AMD for some time now and Ryzen is looking so much better these days eh!!!
