  1. I have the 8600K now, with a 1080 Ti. I could still get my money back for the 8600K and spend another $120 on the 8700K. I'm strictly gaming, with Chrome and Steam open at most. I have a 1440p 144hz Gsync display, and will be on games like Witcher 3, Rust, World of Tanks, Battlefield 1, Overwatch. I won't be streaming, recording, or rendering. I've seen some worrying videos like this one where the CPU usage is very high on BF1, up to 90s and touching 100% at times, and this CPU just came out. This worries me even though I'm not going to be doing anything but gaming. Do you think I should return the 8600k and spend that $120 on an 8700k?
  2. So almost all my parts are in for my build! Got an 8600k and 1080 Ti, as well as a 1440p 144hz gsync panel that I plan to fully use. I commence building when all parts are here, I'm so excited. However I've been having regrets about going with the 8600k. I feel handicapped with 6c/6c while everyone else has HT and 12t on their 8700k. For purely gaming at that resolution and refresh rate, maybe with an application or two open on the side, can the 8600k do okay? I'd like to keep the CPU for at least 2 or 3 years. Thanks.
  3. So my new S24 came in today. I realize now that monitors truly are a subjective thing. All peripherals are of course, so asking for advice is sort of moot. I think I'll be just fine with it, and if problems ever arise, Amazon and Dell have excellent replacement policies. My 1080 Ti comes in tomorrow then I finish my build The enjoyment I'll get out of this will more than pay it off.
  4. Hello all! Just found this forum recently, didn't know Linus had his own discussion boards. So I completed my PC build after years of debate. It's going to have a 1080 Ti and 8600k, and I plan to fully utilize the power of my GPU. However, I decided long ago that my monitor would not be any lower resolution than 1440p. The last few days I've been stuck: Do I pick a 1440p, 60hz IPS panel, or go with a 1440p, 144hz, Gsync TN panel? Price wise, the cost of the Dell is about as high as I want to go. Otherwise I'd look at IPS 1440p 144hz. I do care about warranty, as I know monitors can be plagued with issues and it's sort of a lottery. Particularly the Dell has had reports of issues. For games, I will be playing mostly RPGs (Witcher 3, Skyrim) and Battlefield 1, though possibly Overwatch down the line where I know the 144hz might come in handy. As you can guess, it's quite a pickle..get better colors and lower fps, or sacrifice colors and viewing angles for Gsync and 144hz? Thank you for any input you might have. I hope to start gaming on my new build on the right foot.
