The absolute cheapest VR experience you can get would be the PSVR. You can get a PS4 for $200 and the PSVR for $200. So a total of $400 for a decent VR experience.

The Ryzen 1700x is only $150 on Newegg right now. That's insane, granted that's with no stock cooler, but wow, really wish I was looking for a cpu right now.

I think you're in a rather small minority. Bezel-less is the future and many people do want it. And if you want a larger sensor, just buy a regular camera.

The overwhelming amount of accessories and ease of problem solving. 
 
iPhones have everything when it comes to accessories, which means a bigger variety and choice.
 
Also, if you have a problem it is generally easier to solve because someone else has also probably had the problem too. There's also the much maligned Apple Support, I know sometimes they can be a major pain in the ass, but it's nice to be able to go to a physical store and have the problem diagnosed and possibly solved quickly.
 
Edit: I forgot to mention I used an iPhone 6s for 3 years and just picked up the iPhone XS.
 
Edit 2: The reason I chose iPhone is simplicity. I had an HTC One M8 as my first smartphone, and I'll be honest I loved it and didn't particularly have many problems with it. But I wanted to try iPhone, so I did and I haven't looked back. I am not a power user, I'm not a photographer, and I'm not one that has a particular need to be in control. So to me total features, cameras, and customization, are not a priority to me. I just wanted a reliable and high quality phone, I knew that iPhone could provide that.

Yeah, I got another meme app that has better memes and some rather dark ones. The other app has no issues though when it comes to my phone.

Something specific to older laptops, is using the track pad. Older PC track pads are horrific pieces of garbage. I have been spoiled by my MacBook Pro's track pad and when I use my gf's old IBM Thinkpad I want to throw it out the window. 

Get a new monitor first. Currently there's no benefit to getting a new GPU since I guess your monitor is bottle necking your whole experience. I'm going out on a limb here and assuming that the 1060 3gb is already way past the 720p at whatever refresh rate the monitor is at. So upgrading the GPU wouldn't improve the overall gaming experience. 

I had the same thing for the 1060, I clicked on it as soon as I got the email and it showed the buy button. But I wasn't quite ready to buy at that time. Came back an hour later and clicked the same link and it only came up with a Notify me button again.
