  1. Indeed they will run just great, the only thing is that I need the mobility of a laptop as I'm gonna go to Uni and stay for a couple of years at a dorm.
  2. Hello, I recently graduated and received some money, and I want to buy a new laptop as I fried my old one. Stumbled upon this deal: ASUS ROG STRIX G15 - G512LI - glacier blue (i5 10300h w/ 8gb of ddr4 ram, gtx 1650ti, full hd display @ 144hz and an Intel 660p - 512GB) @ 730 USD. Personally I wouldn't pay more for a gaming laptop, mainly because I'm not gonna play anything else than e-sports titles and some moba's, maybe gta. Would you recommend it for that price or not?
  3. Hello there! A friend of mine asked me if I can unlock this phone, I don't know the background or the backstory of the phone. If I power it on it greets me with a unlocking screen, I get the options to unlock it using the mi account's password, to connect to a wireless network or to call for emergency. If I boot up in recovery mode and wipe all data from the phone I still boot up to the same screen. I'm afraid to reflash android because, as I heard, it rewrites the IMEI which I think is pretty illegal worldwide. Any ideas? Phone: Xiaomi Poco X3 NFC android 10 miui 12
  4. Hello people, recently I've spilled a can of 250ml of pop directly onto my laptop, on the trackpad to be precise. Beforehand it'll be helpful to mention that the keyboard, at least when I bought the laptop (second-hand), was malfunctioning and not working most of the time, only a few keys would respond upon pressing. Now back on the main topic, after seeing what I've done, I've quickly disconnected the laptop from the psu and did a force shutdown via the power button. Laptop specs: -Model: Lenovo Legion Y520-ikbm -MOBO: DY520 NM-B391 rev 1.0 -CPU: Intel Core i5 7300hq -RAM: 8gb solo stick Ramaxel @ 2666Mhz -GPU: Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060 max q 6gb -HDD&SSD: WD blue 1tb@5400rpm, ADATA XPG SX6000NP lite 128gb After wiping the extra pop from the surface of the laptop I've cracked it open to take a look on the inside. Found some liquid onto the mobo and the battery (it's ok, it has some sort of protective layer over it and wasn't ever so slightly affected or damaged). I've quickly disconnected the main battery and the daughterboard with the CMOS battery and used some handkerchiefs to clean the pop from the mobo (where it was obvious), I've inspected the whole mobo for other signs of liquid, assembled back and tried plugging it in only to hear some weird silent like clicking noises from the MOSFET. When plugged in with the battery I hear almost the same noise but more rarely and from a completely different place on the mobo. I've tried cleaning the mobo with some 90% rubbing alcohol but to no avail. Maybe some of you brilliant minds can help me revive this puppy. Thanks in advance and I wish to y'all a happy new year! Edit #1: I forgot to mention that after measuring the voltage w/ a multimeter, the laptop receives current (20V) and the fuses aren't blown.
  5. Hello, as stated in my last topic (nobody answered me) my laptop doesn't seem to read the gpu, I guess a vbios mismatch from the previous owner. Does anyone know/have by any chance a backup vbios for the GTX 980M (10DE 1617 - 1028 0688) for the Alienware 17 R2? I can't find it on techpowerup vbios archive. Any help would be much appreciated!
  6. Try plugging the keyboard and mouse in any USB 2.0 slots that are available, if this doesnt work try resetting the BIOS setting to default and try to boot into the Windows 7 install media.
  7. You shouldn't. Nowadays laptops come with 2 gpus so one runs 2D animations and objects, whilst the other (the RX550M in your case) will run the more gpu demanding 3D applications. If you disable the integrated gpu leaving the dedicated one alone, you might expect worse performance overall. I suggest sticking with both enabled as it's just better optimized for every task.
  8. It depends. If you are using Windows 10, it won't be necessary as when Windows 10 detects new hardware, it looks for the latest drivers automatically. If you are using Windows 7 or older, I suggest re-installing Windows.
  9. Hi there. I recently bought an Alienware 17 R2 (2015) second-hand because it had some gpu driver issues and I thought I could fix 'em. But unfortunately I can't do anything. In GPU-Z my gpu doesn't show any vbios nor any memory available for it. In device manager once I try update the drivers I get hit with an Microsoft Basic Display Adapter instead of my gtx 980m. I've tried old versions of the nvidia drivers but at no result (Nvidia GeForce driver can't find hardware or smth like that). I tried changing some .inf files of the drivers and they get installed, but once I reboot they are either gone, either in device manager it shows error 31 or 43. Flashing a new vbios doesn't seem to work as nvflash doesn't recognize and nvidia adapter. I tried the drivers from the alienware website but I get the exact same errors as the basic (not changed) drivers. Now I installed Linux Ubuntu hoping it was an windows error. Even with the latest Ubuntu drivers installed, the gpu isn't shown in settings (only the igpu), but if I run "sudo lshw -C display" in terminal it shows as a GM204M [GeForce GTX 980M]. Any advice/help would be much obliged! Specs: CPU: Intel Core i7-4720HQ RAM: 16GB DDR3-1600 MHz skhynix GPU: Nvidia GeForce GTX 980m 4GB (device ID 10DE 1617 - 1028 0688) SSD: some Intel ssd 180GB M.2 OS's: Windows 10 Pro (build 1909) and Linux Ubuntu (version 20.04).
  10. Hey, I was browsing the gpu market in my country and I stumbled upon a deal on a gtx 970, and I wondered if my i5-2400 and 8gb of ddr3 ram might be bottlenecking the gpu. If so, would a gtx 750ti be a better gpu for me? (I already have one).
  11. K, thank u all for help :^). Have a great day!
  12. Joelsome just recommended me to look after a gtx 1050 non ti, and ive found one pretty cheap, like 120$, i think im gonna go with the gtx 1050? Or am I doing wrong?
  13. Wow these ebay listings are pretty cheap tho. In Romania, (second-hand duh) the prices are INSANE, like lets say I want to buy for example a gtx760, the cheapest one is 105$ (free shipping), and on ebay are like 2 and 1/2 of the price in my country lmao.
