  3. So after discovering my audio issues were due to a damaged riser cable, i got another oled screen cmos error again when i switched back to my original motherboard. Been despairing. My Dad died little over a week ago. I just got in car wreck today. My computer hasnt worked for a month. Business is not good. Just a tough time. But i followed what this guy did, plugged in an hdmi cable into the mb, and voila, that solved the cmos issue. https://www.techpowerup.com/forums/threads/pc-won’t-post-and-no-display.294078/ So there's that. Some problems can be solved.
  4. I solved it. Riser cable. The initial problems were cmos issues due to the computer being off for week. Should have never happened. Probably an Asus issue. However, while taking it apart to solve my initial problem, i must have nicked the riser cable. The last three prongs on the riser cable had lifted off. The tiny lack of uniformity caught my eye while i was swapping in another known power supply. It doesnt really show in the picture. I plugged the gpu directly into the mb, and the audio issues were gone.
  5. I got the new motherboard. Swapped over. Still have the same issues. I deleted Realtek drivers. Disabled USB audio. Friend suggested this. Didn't work. I rolled back my bios. Didn't work. I upgraded to Windows 11 didn't work. I'm at a loss and going to bed.
  6. So I'm investigating the sound more. Service manager host diagnostic policy service goes to 30% when I do something. Here's a onedrive link to a video. https://1drv.ms/v/s!AvsO0rkUe83siJwE5bAqvzoYkAL9Rw After more investigation, I can trigger the sound issue by moving a window around, but the mouse by itself doesn't necessarily make the sound break up. I'm thinking it might be related to powertoys. Getting rid of powertoys made no difference.
  7. Built the computer in May. It worked fine from May to the end of August. Zero issues. The computer was off for a week while a replaced a light with ceiling fan. I flipped the breaker back on, but the computer would not post. Code 28, restart, code 28, restart. After a lot of persistence, I got it to boot. https://linustechtips.com/topic/1453178-z690-formula-12700k-00-cpu-code-every-few-seconds-on-boot/#comment-15560523 I got back into Windows, but the computer didn't run right. It was slow. Some programs wouldn't run. Windows said the DLL was wrong. The sound would slow down and break up every few seconds. So I decided to start clean, format and install a fresh copy of windows. But the poor performance and sound issues have continued. The computer will also freeze and crash intermittently. I ran the error checking tool on the m2 drives. The m2's are fine. I ran Memtest86. The ram is fine. I ran Intel's diagnostic tool. The 12700k is fine. I ran AVG's full scan, boot scan, and quick scan. It was fine. I was running Windows Defender Full Scan as I was typing this. It was almost done, but the computer went black, and after about ten seconds, rebooted itself. So the computer hasn't made it more than 20 minutes without crashing. I have another CPU. I have another ram stick. I have a another PSU. I'm getting another Formula 690 MB in the mail tomorrow. After I see how that swap goes, I'm going to call ASUS tech support on Tuesday. Does anyone have any thoughts? Any ideas?
  8. I'm writing this from my computer now. I tried clearing the CMOS and pulling the battery. And I thought maybe it was the last thing I hooked up, so I pulled the front panel jumpers too. It booted. I reconnected the front panel jumpers thinking that would recreate the problem but it didn't. Anyway, Windows didn't work right. Ran terrible. Tried to run Amazon music and it said the DLL wasn't fit for Windows. Sound didn't work in games or chrome or Amazon. Crackling. Flitting in and out. Friend I called suggested driver problems. So I made the decision to just nuke it and start over. Been playing the install windows game for the last few hours. But I still have sound issues. I'm going to start a new thread.
  9. Spoke too soon. Disconnected the power. Mounted it to the wall. Reconnected everything. And back to the original problem. Error code 28. Restart. over and over.
  10. I dont know. Asus guy said some higher level guy would call me in a few days. I guess I can ask that guy about it when he calls.
  11. So I completely removed the MB to find the serial number, then the ASUS guy wanted me to check the q code lights, which are hidden under a shroud on this particular board, but I told him I would humor him, so reinstalled the motherboard and starting hooking things up. Then I saw the motherboard was getting hung up on different codes, so I kept installing parts. But then it got hung up on D6, oled said Cmos error, and then i kept clearing the cmos, pulling the battery, and i got 99 cmos error, so I kept hitting delete, and then, finally, i got a display, went into the bios, loaded defaults. And it booted to windows. Im guessing the CMOS went wonky. Dont know why pulling the motherboard changed things. Dont know why resetting the cmos over and over and pulling the battery over and over finally got through. But I guess persistance pays off. Now I'm gonna have a bunch of return hits on my Amazon account.
  12. i gave it another try. Noticed something interesting. In three out of the four ram slots, it hangs on code 28 then restarts, but in the second slot, it flashes 4C for a microsecond before restarting. With no ram, it still doesnt get to post, and restarts endlessly, but it does show different codes. I ordered another formula MB, should be here on Monday. Trying to start warranty process, but asus rma is down, and im on hold.
  13. Got the 12100 today, installed it, same symptoms. So i swapped out psu, ram, cpu, and there was no change, which leaves the mobo. I guess my next step is to start a warranty claim with asus?
  14. Teamgroup ddr5 4800 8gb Ram arrived today. Same symptoms. No change. Waiting for processor.
