How about a CRT Display? If you are looking for one for the kids this should work. You can usually find em cheap at a thrift shop, free on the street, or on craigslist. You could have the good TV, while your kids can have the sub-par one in their room.

A CRT would have very little input lag, and depending on the monitor, can get a very high refresh rate as well.

You wouldn't be getting that with a CRT, that I can tell ya.

CRT Computer monitors were beasts, and are still awesome.
