I'd find a local radio/TV shop that works on these old radios. They could tell you what exactly what this radio is used for and they can test the tubes. The tubes are generally in sockets (like an ice cube relay) but I can't tell you without seeing the base of the tube.

There are specific tube testing equipment. You may find an old radio or TV enthusiast in your area that will test them (they may even have replacements too).

It may not be worth powering until you have the tubes tested. Those vacuum tubes will degrade over time even without use.

Actually, you probably could. But you're talking about two different scenarios. There is a business tax approach and an investment approach. If you can show a realized loss (you bought coin high and sold for less), that could be considered a realized loss. The business side is a bit more complicated but you could conceivably start a mining company and when filing taxes take advantage of depreciation of equipment and other expenses related to the cost of that business.

Tom Coleman was a Texas cop who arrested 10% of Tulia, Texas' black population on drug counts. Why? Well, Tom could have been a racist but he was certainly motivated by cash. However, these people do exist and it is a reality; only a conspiracy until the action occurs.
