For competitive games like cs go, you'll hit 144 hz every day. More demanding games like bf1 will run at 90-110fps depending on CPU, much higher in some maps. I have a 144hz 1440p and i am really enjoying 60fps in games like gta (runs around 90fps), tomb rider and so on with highest possible settings. I cant see the point to go beyond 60fps with games that don't require it. I mean in fps games, sure, you see the difference between 60 and 144 fps and you'll need that difference, where the 1080 is more than enough. Mine sits around 350fps in csgo under a 45-70% load. So much higher fps if it was running at 100%. But you dont need to palay Tomb Raider or other AAA games at 144hz simply because there isnt any information you need to see that fast. I am super happy with my 1080 and 1440p monitor. And as for the 1080ti, i really doubt it will be able to reach 144fps in games like gta, bf1 and so on.
