*Disclaimer: this is pretty melodramatic he said/he said stuff and yes, Gamergate is brought up again so if you don't want yet another discussion item on that feel free to skip

So it seems like Kotaku made a big stink about being "blacklisted" by some major devs and are getting quite infantile (big shocker there) about it:

Now of course a bunch of people went into the offensive, chief among them Boogie2988

After being called out on their hypocritical and absurd claims of Journalistic integrity they of course went into damage control by basically openly calling Boogie a liar and such but there's a lot more people other than just him on the offensive:

So what's your take on this? Personally I am glad they're getting it right back on their faces as the article also reveals some interesting numbers showing they're in heavy decline as a website so it makes more sense they'd be desperate about being pushed to the side by the publishers. If anything, it seems pathetic and insulting entitlement (not strange for an SJW centric cesspool) that they even mention that they did not get review copies: that's just ridiculous if independent youtubers can buy their own games for review a major website under the umbrella of a rather big web outlet (parent company Gawker Media) not only can but should buy all of their game copies independently.

No, it's no more accurate than before. People are simply noticing the ones they've gotten right more often. Perception, not actual accuracy, has been what's changed.

It's probably because as inexperienced devs, they thought the same as many end users and believed the hype. Here's the truth: Performance gains will be minimal at best for DX12 initially, since it will basically means a lot of relearning and recoding to take advantage of potential DX12 gains that will remain mostly potential for months or even years.

dimitriianghelov reacted to Mahigan in AMD Rx 400 series code-name "Arctic-Islands" May only sport HBM 1 and not HBM 2
    Well,

    Let's use Logical deduction.

    There are two rumors:
AMD will get priority over HBM2 shipments AMD is having trouble sourcing HBM2 memory
Why are both of these rumors either patently false or spell disaster for both AMD and nVIDIAs next gen cards? To start, while it is true that AMD holds several patents over HBM2, AMD applied for a JEDEC standard which does not allow for discriminatory behavior. Therefore AMD could not receive priority over the shipments of HBM2 memory as this would count as discriminatory behavior.
For the same reason, if AMD is having issues sourcing HBM2 then so is nVIDIA, because discriminatory behavior is not permitted. This would point to an issue with the production of HBM2 and not an issue with AMD having issues because nVIDIA is sourcing all of the HBM2 (not allowed according to the JEDEC standard).
If nVIDIA attempted this, and Samsung/Hynix gave nVIDIA preferential treatment, then AMD could make a patent claim and apply royalties as well as fines onto nVIDIA/Samsung and Hynix in order to recoup costs (permitted by the JEDEC license due to AMDs patents).

So we're left with this rumor being false, in which case neither AMD or nVIDIA will have issues sourcing HBM2 or this rumor is true and it would make it hard for either of the two to source HBM2 due to some production issues.

dimitriianghelov reacted to TechFan@ic in Intel & AMD, Architectural Discussion, How Far Ahead Is Intel ?
Well guys I've been doing my own research & analysis of the performance of AMD & Intel CPUs for sometime, I did not do tests personally however I tried to salvage as much knowledge as possible to try and answer a question that has been on my mind, which is how far ahead Intel really is? and that question led me to some very interesting realizations.

The discussion will be highly technical and might seem boring to some, I'll start off with the basics & end with the answer to the original question plus several others.

Ok let's begin, first off our discussion will be surrounding AMD's modular Bulldozer/Piledriver architecture & Intel's core series from Westmere to Sandy/Ivy & Haswell.

    The Architectures : AMD Bulldozer/Piledriver

The building block of AMD's modular architecture is not an x86 core, it's an x86 module, this module contains everything that a core contains but with a number of components doubled, these components include the integer scheduler, its datapath, 16KB of L1 DCache & it's own load/store unit.
The doubling of these components is what gives the AMD module essentially two cores/threads.
The integer cores share the early pipeline stages (e.g. L1i, fetch, decode), the floating point unit, and the L2 cache with the rest of the module.

    How this affects performance
Depending on the workload the quad module eight core AMD processors can either perform as eight processing units or as four and this depends entirely on the affinity of the workload to integer or floating point calculations.
If integer calculations are needed there are eight integer pipelines that can be used, however if floating point calculations are needed there are only four.
