  1. I actually found a GT 1030 used for £45, which ended up surprisingly good for budget gaming on reasonable settings. For those who can't get hold of a 750ti and want something modern that can pull it's weight and is just a bit more expensive than the GT 710 i'd really recommend it if you can find it cheap.
  2. Oh, I'd go for really challenging, say sub £40/50usd ish.
  3. So I'm starting this thread just for the discussion of older hardware that still has life left in it. I'm trying to make a super cheap build as a challenge to see what old hardware still can hold its own at say low 1080p settings, in particular graphics cards from the GT 2/4/6 gens is what I'm aiming for. Paired with say a Q6600 and 4-8gb of DDR2. What old cards do you feel can still hold their own a little when others may pass them off as 'dead and buried?'
  4. I'd like to see reviews on alternate brands of PSU. Not the janky dirt cheap ones for $15-$20, but other brands of 80 plus models besides the usual EVGA/Corsair etc. I know they often sponsor the show but there are other brands out there which are still pretty good and often a little cheaper. Just because they're not one of the main name brands doesn't insntantly mean they're dangerous trash you wouldn't want to touch with a barge pole. Just a thought. I personally have an EVGA GQ supply, but I also have an Aerocool Integrator 80 plus bronze 600W which is a pretty damn good unit too for it's price (which is around the EVGA white's) Also, I'd like to see reviews on the REALLY bad ones, like the Ace ones you always seem to get bundled in cheap cases, just so people know what to look out for in a bad supply and what exactly is wrong with it, and also how to easily spot it (and even if the units can serve any purpose at all)
  5. Due to the current, frankly atrocious price of RAM, I went 2 8gb strips of the Crucial 2133mhz stuff. Overclocked it to 2400mhz easily and you can often find loads of it used on eBay pretty cheap compared to new stuff on amazon since it tends to be what a lot of people start with and then later upgrade from. But that's just me, really depends on where you are financially.
  6. You win. Time to shout into the void and see if it shouts back...or bans me. *Inhales*. Yo, @LinusTech, might I have a brief moment of your attention? *hides*
  7. Lol, the man likely gets bombarded by a hundred or so similar messages a week. I just thought I'd share my two cents on the subject with the rest of the group.
  8. Hows about, just for once they do a full from-the-ground-up build. It'll be the most helpful and real world version of scrapyard wars ever. Hear me out. There are likely many viewers who are still console gamers who WANT to get into (or back into) pc gaming, but all they see are builds of cases as all they need to build their first budget gaming PC. Many have no Monitor, keyboard, mouse or even place to put it, that's right, most don't even have a DESK or chair (propping your TV on your coffee table is hardly a setup) So here's my idea: Two, or more teams, need to build a full gaming station for someone who wants to get into PC gaming on a BUDGET, but they need to build not only the basic unit, but also get the monitor, keyboard, mouse and sound peripherals AS WELL as a desk and chair. Now, as this will be an average joe build, the PC must be built as is, with no mods or soldering of ANY kind, same with the desk, no carpentry or metalwork (Looking at you, Luke) allowed. EDIT: No soldering either, you don't have the right connector on your cooler/case fan/power supply cable, tough. And no using adapters/tools/screws available within LMG. EVERYTHING used to build the pc comes from the budget, and tools should be limited to average DIY store/dollar store equivalents, again this is for your average joe here. But how would this be judged? Simple: One part will be the usual benchmarks, but the setup itself will also be judged for comfort and quality by, say, actual ESports gamers (Perhaps invite a championship team) to judge not only the comfort and ease of use of the setup but also the quality of use from the peripherals. If Linus and LTT can pull this off, on a budget, then they can prove to ANYONE that they can get into PC gaming on a budget because, frankly, with only building a base unit and none of the rest, you're ignoring more than half of both the cost and effort needed for building your first PC. Can it be done on the original $300 budget, or would Linus himself admit that nobody can get into PC gaming with the same quality as a console for the price of a PS4/XB1?
