  1. Adding to the recommendation of disabling XMP, sometimes reseating the memory modules and cleaning the contacts in the motherboard and memory modules themselves helps with this kind of errors. And on a first gen Ryzen machine I used to have reseating the CPU solved all the random freezing issues it had. Although I suspect that was because the computer got quite banged up when it was checked out as luggage on a plane trip . Edit: from looking at the picture it appears that the same memory addresses fail over and over again. If you don't want to replace memory there are ways of telling memtest86 to parse those faulty addresses as a kernel boot argument to tell windows/linux to ignore those addresses. It's not as good as straight up replacing the memory modules but for a non critical machine it's worth a try. It's a free "repair" after all.
  2. @Dukedog2001 May I add that if your BIOS configuration looks normal then try booting any Linux distro from a usb and check the system monitor there to see how many threads the OS is detecting. This way you can determine if it's a Windows issue or not.
  3. Hmm, that's interesting. Although I don't know if the pins on a cpu are made of copper or some other metal alloy. I know for a fact that the pins are gold plated, but that doesn't matter in this case.
  4. For the love of god please don't buy a power supply from Wish. They are known for selling counterfeit goods advertised as something real.
  5. I would hop onto the Power Supplies part of the fourm and look at the pinned posts. One of them is a guide for calculating the size of your psu and the other one is a tier list with known good models going from a high tier to a low tier.
  6. I use Transmission because it came preinstalled lol. Otherwise I guess I would have installed qBitorrent.
  7. I would not recommend heating the cpu up. That will not unbend the pins and will only cause them to possibly disolder causing further damage. I had good luck fixing bent pins on an old sempron using one of those thin blades used for arts and crafts (pic related) and very slowly and carefully unbending them back straight enough that it fits the socket. Otherwise maybe taking it to a computer repair shop you trust and asking if anyone there has steady hands and knows how to fix bent pins is a good option.
  8. If you fail to repair the bent pins, you could try sending your chip to someone that has specialized equipment to solder new pins to the cpu. It will probably be cheaper than replacing the whole unit.
  9. Have you tried reseating the CPU? Check if there are any bent pins or misaligned pads that might inhibit the contact between your CPU pins/pads and your motherboard socket. More often than not the machine will still post but you will have issues such as dead memory channels or missing PCIe lanes.
  10. I'd start by telling him to unplug it from the charger and remove the battery (if possible) to discharge all the capacitors in the board. Idk why but my Thinkpad E440 wasn't posting one day and doing this fixed it.
  11. A bad cpu could cause all sorts of trouble that are sometimes even intermittent. It can also be a flaky power supply. Unstable power delivery usually really makes a computer unstable, even when sometimes it appears to work fine. My recommendation would be trying with another power supply first and then try to borrow an AM4 cpu or get whatever the cheapest APU you can get. I thing the Athlon 300GE is 50 USD. Edit: You should also look into the ram speed limit of your motherboard. Because you can't always run ram faster than what the motherboard was designed for. For example a B350 motherboard I have with a ryzen 3600 can run ram up to 3000MHz being stable. Even if the kit and the cpu are rated for the 3200MHz operation.
  12. I've recently built a computer with a Ryzen 3600 and the stock wraith stealth cooler. When doing cpu intensive things like blender rendering or video encoding I saw temperatures up to 90ºC on the cpu (this is with an ambient temperature of about 25-30ºC mind you). Is this how badly the stock cooler should perform? I'm kind of disappointed about this since I remember that the stock cooler that came with a Ryzen 1600 I had a while back was really good for running at stock speeds. According to the specs in AMD's website the 3600 can handle temperatures up to 95ºC but in worried this might turn my chip into a dorito if i let it be like that long term. Edit: Want to add that this is all at stock speeds with whatever the default bios settings are. The only change I made there was enabling virtualization.
  13. So I'm looking into buying a graphics card, and locally the best prices I can find that match my budget are (converted to us dollars) 200 USD for an 8GB RX 580 or 335 USD for a GTX 1660 6GB. There's also a 234 USD Powercolor RX 590 8GB that looks kind of crappy in the pictures. What do you recommend I buy? Is the 135 dollar price difference worth it? I'm not the biggest gamer ever so gaming is not the primary use for my pc. Thanks!
  14. I'm looking into buying a computer for mainly productivity tasks such as compiling code and video and image manipulation, although I will be playing games sometimes, but it's not the main purpose of this machine. Where I live the price (converted to dollars) for a 2600 is about 170 USD. The 3600 is 250 USD. Do you think the performance advantages of the 3600 are worth it with this price delta. I can also get a 2700 for the same price as a 3600. Buying used unfortunately is not a viable option because all I can find locally is sandy bridge i5s and used current cpus that are nearly the same price as a new one. Thanks! Edit: I will be giving the computer in my flair to my dad so don't tell me to just keep my 1600
  15. Is there any reason you don't want to run Windows XP and Vista on a virtual machine? That will allow you to use a modern OS while maintaining compatibility with older software/hardware that runs only under XP.
  16. As posted above, if you are gaming the difference will be little. But if you will de doing heavily multi-threaded tasks, such as Blender or video encoding, the 1700 will give you a small performace boost with it's extra 2 cores. So the choice is 6 faster cores vs 8 slower cores.
  17. Consider buying a high end FM2+ APU used on eBay or something. That will be a cheaper upgrade and give you quite a performance boost. Look into the A10-7890K (if you want an iGPU) or the Athlon X4 880K (if you don't need an iGPU) Otherwise the G4560 is a good cpu, but i'd consider going with a more modern socket, like AM4, so you could easily upgrade your chip in the future.
  18. Yeah, and aside from disabling wps (it's security is crap) set the wpa2 encryption to AES only. It's much more secure than TKIP
  19. I'd recommend you change your WiFi password just to be safe
  20. If I'm not mistaken that's and Amazon echo smart speaker of some sort. That model number suggests so and it's manufactured by Amazon.
  21. Mine is the one that has Louis Rossmann, Jayz2Cents and Wendell in it. Aside from Luke of course. Although it was missing Linus ?
  22. I'd recommend a Seasonic unit. They might be a bit more expensive but they will last a very long time. Also your expensive hardware will be protected againt any power failure. Edit: Read Stefan Payne's reply.
  23. My PC has a Ryzen 1600 and a GTX 1060. Were I live, the only good psu I can get is this http://www.sentey.com/es/new-snp-650-watts-snp650-hs/ Will it be good enough? What do you think?
  24. I would say rma the cpu. If you know a computer shop that might test it four you, go ahead and ask if they can try it on other mobo/ram combination
