  1. Honestly it's probably brigading from Reddit, which itself has become the incel dumpster fire that Twitter was pre-Musk after Reddit's policies drove off a good deal of good users.
  2. Yeah, but she has the old FiOS Quantum router.
  3. You can literally see the back door from the front door. It's probably 45ft from front to back.
  4. Here's the thing, though. There's line of site from one end of the house to the other and she only closes the bedroom door when she's sleeping. Trust me... I'm all about the multi-AP setup, but that's not necessary here. She just needs something that doesn't suck like an antenna-less FiOS Quantum router.
  5. My friend is a Verizon FiOS customer living in a railroad-style apartment (all rooms lead into each other front-to-back) [entrance/craft room > bedroom > living room > dining room > kitchen] and she's having some network dropout issues. She has an extender in the craft room and the main router in the living room. WiFi is oddly inconsistent in the craft room and drops out often when moving from the living room into the dining room. It's definitely the WiFi since wired devices are good. I'm asking for recommendations for a good router for a normie since I personally tend to go overboard (I have Unifi APs around my house with a Linux box running the controller) and don't want to drive her nuts with something that has a zillion options. What say you, guys?
  6. So... My 6-year-old daughter is somehow still alive after throwing a hard toy at my 12-year-old son's Dell 27" 1080p 75Hz monitor. His birthday is coming up in May so we were looking to upgrade him anyway, but now the timetable has obviously moved up. So, we're looking to pick him up a new monitor. Here's the requirements: 27" 1440p IPS panel (you'll have to do a lot of work to convince me to get him a VA panel and TN can DIAF) 144Hz+ (he has a 3060Ti from the Asus TUF series, so he should do OK in the games he plays) $400ish or less (preferably less, and I understand perfection will not be had for that price range) Optional: RGB Height adjust Things that aren't important at all even if they're cool: HDR local dimming We were thinking about the Pixio PX277 Pro that @Plouffe did a ShortCircuit about, but that's not shipping 'til the end of next month. So, any recommendations? Please tell me why you make whatever recommendation you make. Thanks!
  7. So, the Series X/S release is tomorrow. What I'm wondering is if that's a midnight release, a 6am PT release, or some other time. I'm wondering if I should stay up, wake up early, or just kinda chill and wait for it.
  8. At least she seemed to be asking the right questions instead of just going off on her own and getting angry at you about it.
  9. So, uh, I hate to bump an ancient ass thread... But @CPotter, we need answers. @LinusTech and @Slick showed off a couple different designs of large mouse pads/mats on a WAN Show last year and I kinda want to throw money at you guys for one of them. When can I give you guys money?
  10. I used to work in self storage. One day I had a woman come in and say she wanted to cancel her unit. I told her to let me know when she emptied it out so I could inspect it and do the paperwork. She said it was already empty. I came to find out that's because when she rented the unit two years prior she NEVER put anything in it. She was paying $190 a month for an empty unit. And she knew she had it, too, because she had 3 rate increases that we legally had to send notices for. Short version of that answer... People are dumb.
  11. I have two of these bad boys at work and I love them. I was going to replace my move my Dell U2414H to secondary monitor duties (currently have an ancient Samsung SyncMaster 940a there) and get the EB243YU for my primary display. They were in stock at Microcenter just a few weeks ago for $160 and now they're gone. Why can't I find anything like that (1440p, IPS panel, 24 inches, bezelless) for anything less than $260ish? I'd love to go 27" but I simply can't fit that in my current setup (19" desk-mounted rack on the left side of the desk and the U2414H is currently squeezed between a pair of JBL 305p studio monitors for audio production purposes).
  12. Yeah, the noise was a bit too much for me to deal with. The original unit is running on the Extreme setting in iCue and is dead silent compared to the HSF I replaced which was quieter than the pump on the replacement unit.
  13. It's Monster Cables times 1000. At least there's some dubious science behind Monster. This is just BS. LOL
  14. Shielding isn't difficult. What this thing claims to do, though, is complete horsepucky.
  15. I let it settle for a few days and even performed a "fix" suggested by a Corsair rep on another forum (make sure that the case is positioned so the motherboard/pump is horizontal, unmount the radiator and rotate it to work out the air bubbles). No matter what I did that fix didn't work. The sloshing noise unmounted was significantly more on the replacement than the original. I've had the original cooler with the replacement's mounting hardware running since last weekend completely silently. It also seems to be running a few degrees cooler, incidentally.
  16. Literally the ONLY way I could see this being of any value is if it was shielded and didn't output any RF noise while sitting next to audio equipment. That is the ONLY way this could be of benefit to audio quality going through it.
  17. OK, so I got the replacement the other day. For some reason I decided to replace the whole thing. Well, that was a bad idea because apparently the replacement was underfilled and the pump was gurgling. When I pulled it out I could hear the coolant sloshing a bit. I took the new bracket and put it on the original cooler and all is peachy now.
  18. Since the Platinum and the Pro XT are new they don't have spare parts, yet. They were going to send me a whole new unit, but since I bought mine from Amazon they said that it would probably actually be quicker to get them to replace it. So, that's what I did. Should be here tomorrow.
  19. I'm amazed it would have had the allowable range for me to overtighten it THAT much. I'm used to things having some sort of max limit to prevent such things and it didn't seem any tighter than any other cooler I've used before. I'll be more aware of things with the replacement, though.
  20. I came home from work today to discover that my computer was off. I figured maybe the power went out longer than my UPS could support the machine and it was automatically shut down so I absentmindedly turned it back on. That's when I noticed that the lights from my Corsair H115i RGB Pro XT weren't exactly where they should be. Turns out that the darn mounting bracket broke while the system was running and it popped right off the chip which apparently shut down when it hit the max temp. The system's currently running with the stock Wraith Stealth cooler (after I ran to Microcenter to get some Arctic MX-4 since I seemed to be completely out of thermal paste). I don't think I fried the chip since I'm typing this post on it and I ran AIDA64 on it for a while without problems. It only hit a max of 87 degrees under full load with the Wraith. So, have you guys ever seen a mount that's been seemingly fine for 2+ weeks suddenly break while the system was running?
  21. Where do they even offer that? Also... For what sort of emergencies? You don't need data to call 911. Also, we gave my 9.5-year-old son a smartphone and we don't want him chewing through data like Rush Limbaugh at a pie eating contest so I have his mobile data turned off. He connects to WiFi only.
  22. I asked the same question over at the [H] (which is a shell of its former self since Kyle sold it off...) and somebody said they have the EVGA and hate the controller software beyond the RGB stuff (fan curves, pump speed, etc.). That's certainly a consideration. How's iCUE with that stuff? I'm starting to lean heavily towards Corsair, but something about the CoolIT mounting mechanism on the Pro XT for AM4 puts me off. I think the Asetek mechanism is more elegant. Plus I seem to have lost a screw for the studs for that mount and need to find it. LOL
  23. There's plenty of space in the front of the case for 2 x 140mm (I asked about 280 AIOs, not 360, although a 360 would fit) and it's common knowledge that multiple fans at a slower RPM move more air than one fan at a higher RPM... Soooooooooooo...
