  1. Been there, done that. Tried installing GeForce Experience, uninstalling GeForce Experience, downloading the drivers from the Gigabyte site instead of the nVidia site, no luck with anything. I remembered two more things that could be of note though: 1) I have updated the MB’s BIOS for it to be able to use a Ryzen 5000 CPU 2) Upon first Windows boot, I had issues with the GPU not posting the right resolution and only posting on one monitor, while Windows kept reinstalling its drivers. This solved itself when I reseated the card.
  2. Shit. Shit. Shit. Where would a performance setting like that be? I haven’t changed anything AFAIK, but it would be nice to be able to check. I don’t know what I’m going to do if the card is defective. The cards don’t even exist, I spent forever waiting for a 3080 to become available. I don’t want my money back, I just want a working card god damn it.
  3. Thanks, I will try those both, but I’ll keep the BIOS flash as a last resort because I’m worried about the warranty in case the card was actually defective (which would break my heart after hunting for it for so long, but it’s better to RMA it than lose the money). I think I’m doing everything right, hardware control and monitoring is enabled. The GPU’s behavior doesn’t seem to be affected by temperatures though, so I think that the problem is elsewhere. I haven’t installed any other OC / control apps other than Afterburner so far. I might look for a Gigabyte thing though.
  4. I have used Macrium Reflect to clone the drives and then EaseUS Partition Master to join the excess space with the user partition on the new larger drive. Has worked like a charm for this exact purpose.
  5. I’ve built myslef a new PC with a Gigabyte 3080 Gaming OC card for Christmas. All of the thermals and performance seems to bee in order, but the fans on the GPU seem to go a bit crazy sometimes. Under minimal load (like writing this post), they will spin up to what I assume is 100% (although Afterburner says it’s 46%, but it’s MUCH louder than the 46% it reports when I play CP77). They stay like that for about 5 seconds and then calm down. I’ve noticed that this happens when the card OC’s from its idle downclock (240 MHz) to its working clock (1800 MHz I believe), but only most of the time. The temps are 40 to 50°C when this happens, so I don’t think this behaviour is thermal-bound. Under sustained load, the card settles at about 70°C with reasonable fan loudness so to say. I tried Afterburner, but the fans don’t listen to it. I tried reseating the card, rolling back drivers, using studio drivers instead of game-ready, nothing helped. Please help before I lose my mind. EDIT: Two more things that could be of note: 1) I have updated the MB’s BIOS for it to be able to use a Ryzen 5000 CPU 2) Upon first Windows boot, I had issues with the GPU not posting the right resolution and only posting on one monitor, while Windows kept reinstalling its drivers. 6. Right, I might actually get a dedicated NAS device and then later upgrade to something I'll know i'll need when I do. Thank you.
  7. How do I find out whether a model is or isn't capable of doing that?
  8. Well I'd say I'm a pretty big techhead (amateurish, but still), but this is the first time I've ever gotten into networking. I don't have the money to build a machine with an 8 core processor and 32GB of RAM, in fact I'm not spending over $500 on the device. I'm quite sure that I'd learn how to get the most out of a server if I got one, I'm just not sure if I could build something as quiet and reliable as the things Synology make are. Plus, all I know about hardware is about desktops and laptops, I know nothing about server grade components and their performance.
  9. Oh yeah, I already knew that. I kinda like the idea of having a centralised storage that runs 24/7 always to be accessed. Plus, after establishing a home network not long ago, I found out that file transfers are terribly slow on it. I don't know why it is so, but I'm hoping that getting a NAS/server will solve that.
  10. Build... a DAS? I thought DAS's were just external drives made up of a RAID array. I want something to which the whole family can place their photos, music and movies and access them from all their devices, so a DAS doesn't really suit my situation. Right now I'm just wondering how much processing power I'm going to need, considering I may get to a point in time where a server could come in handy. I wouldn't mind building something on my own, but I have no idea on how to make a 24/7 running machine that I could trust with all of my (our) data and that wouldn't double its price in electricity bills on a year.
  11. Why is that? Is it a lack of computing power, a lack of software available for a particular NAS OS or something else, like a need for actual expansion cards to do certain things? (You can probably tell I don't actually need anything like that right now, I'd just like to know how expensive it would be to get something which would allow me to do this stuff if needed in the future). How much power is enough to just run Plex and store and access data?
  12. Well since a lot of NAS's can run apps like Plex, the line between what a NAS and a server are got blurred enough for me to be unrecognisable - hence this thread.
  13. Is it a server? Is it a NAS? Is it a steal? Is it useless? How does it compare to other solutions, like Synology's? Apart from eshop reviews (which tend to be very positive, saying this thing beats everything Synology have ever made for a fraction of the price), I wasn't able to find anything about the device, nor anyone who would seem to use it. Its four drive bays look really attractive for the price, as well as the proclaimed Plex streaming abilities. The only thing people complained about was the lack of ILO, but that was added this September.
  14. This is like one of those lawful good to chaotic evil graph memes. It really doesn't help anyone gain knowledge on the topic though.
  15. How is it just a hard drive if it has a networking OS and software built in? Sounds a lot like a server to me tbh.
