I have a bunch of photos to edit and stuff to write before I update my build log, but I thought I'd show you guys the latest:

    Pentium 4 2.4C
    Asus P4C800-E Deluxe
    OCZ PC4200 (that's DDR1)
    GeForce FX 5900

All that's left for Phase 1 is to volt mod the motherboard. The P4C has notorious voltage droop. Even with the vcore pumped crazy high it drops below stock on load, so to get where I'm going I'll have to even that out... in the meantime:

So close I can taste it!
And while it's not stable enough to boot into windoze...

By the way, I have found that GamersNexus makes very unbiased reviews, they're my go-to reviewer for hardware these days.

I think it's important that we know what LTT do. They're not Tomshardware or GN. LMG has been focusing on the educational entertainment kind of content, rather than actually being a reviewer (though they do make some reviews). I'm really fond of the Holy S#!T episodes especially when it's something as insane as a (relatively) cold fusion reactor. For really in-depth reviews and performance benchmarks, you should look elsewhere because that's not the main focus of LTT now.

This isn’t as dated as the other hardware here (some snobs on here beg to differ lol) but I upgraded my Q6600 rig with an FX6300, Crosshair V Formula, 8gb of DDR3, and a HD 6950. Performs way better than all my old stuff. Edit: forgot to say that this is my first ROG board. It's nice and all but idk what the hype about rog stuff is all about. Just seems like marketing gimmicks to me. I sure do miss my old 990fx-UD3 though

Hey look! Goodies! And this is just the cooling gear...

Radiators: When I realized I was being a little optimistic with fitting a 360 in the bottom, I decided one radiator just wasn't going to cut it. So I got three radiators. Hardware Labs Black Ice M160GTX, M184GTX, and an L Series 240. Unfortunately I was being a little optimistic about the 3rd radiator, and so the M184 will have to be used for something else. Aw shucks!

Water Blocks: DANGER! DANGER! We've got a full Danger Den setup, a TDX CPU block, a pair of SLI Tyee GPU blocks, and a couple Maze 4 chipset blocks (which came all the way from Hungary!). The GPU blocks are made for Radeon X1800s, but I will be adapting one to an Nvidia FX 5900 (details on that later).

The pump/res is an Enermax NEOChanger 200ml, and I grabed some Noreprene black tubing that I think is what I'll use in the final build. Probably. I think. Oh, and I grabbed a silver coil.

I marked out the cuts needed to make room for the radiators.

and got to work with my Dremel!

Time for a test fit! Nice and snug, just the way I like it! Note the big rubber feet I picked up. I haven't quite figured out how I'm going to mount the reservoir yet (contemplating making some custom U-bolts), so zip ties will have to do for now.

The chipsets on 875P boards have silly retention clips instead of mounting holes, so I fashioned some mounting hardware from some fan clips.

They work well enough for some testing, but I think I'll need to craft a more robust solution.

As for that overclock... progress is being made. Slow tedious progress.

floatingtrem reacted to Burr in My version of the "Compact Sleeper" PC
Howdy all, So this story starts just about two weeks ago. When to my complete shock, LTT posted a build I could actually financially manage! (Crazy right?)
As the title ever so subtly Alludes, I'm referring to the "Ultimate Compact Sleeper PC Build" Video. Almost Immediately after its 8:41 runtime I set to work Scrounging up
spare parts. First to come was the Case itself. Thankfully, I just so happened to have a spare Morrow Designs computer sitting around The same model as in the video.
What luck! From there I dug up an i5-4670, Z97S Krate Mobo, 8Gigs of Vengeance DDR3, Some PCI-e WIFI Card,The cheapest thermaltake PSU Known to man And finally 1.06TB of storage to wrap things  up...
So by this point, as I stare into my abyss of spare parts. The realization hits me that aside from the storage, Every other component in front of me is Standard. ATX. Bohemoth Desktop sized.
    Nice!

Foolishly Unswayed I power on, and the next two hours flash by in a haze of Dremel sparks, test fits and tears. Until finally, my very own Frankenstein's monster was complete!
(Until An hour or so later when I decided a single Intel stock cooler wasn't enough to cool an entire system and threw a 140mm fan)

All in all I'm quite happy with my zero budget version of this build. I Fully intend to put actual money into this system later on, As well as fabricating a monitor housing that matches what
would have come with the chassis back in the day. Lastly, If anyone else in LTT-verse loves the look of old iron as much as myself. There's some info about my next big project Below.

P.S. That matching box on the left is a signal man modem turned external drive enclosure

(CABLE MANAGEMENT PICTURE, VIEW AT YOUR OWN RISK)

Next up, Aside from the aforementioned matching monitor housing. I'm turning an IMSAI VDP-80 Into a 150# network storage server. Complete with It's original keyboard rewired to work with the modern hardware and a working Reel to Reel 9-Track Drive just to complete that delicious 70s data server look.

I'm apparently completely doomed, guys. I have kids and they are all dangerously clever, but one in particular is training to be a computer hacker. My 1 year old daughter has been caught several times opening the source code page for websites, so we're calling her our hacker. But a recent incident is more than random clicking and key hitting. We had hulu open, and we went into a different room for one second. When we came back out, hulu was closed, a different browser was open and netflix was open to sarah and duck, her favorite show. She was the only one in the room
    We're doomed...

Depending on the motherboard you can get a Xeon X5460 running in the same socket with an adapter for about 30 bucks. Big upgrade from those Q6600s.

Really? I feel like that has more in common with a 1080... then again, everything since the 280 looks the same to me.

To tell the truth I picked it because it’s layed out like a Radeon X1800.
