  1. Ok guys, I have a better idea of what I need now. Thanks for all the suggestions. Could someone tell me what would be a AMD alternative to the i3-6100 or i3-4170 ? Also any suggestions on the display ?
  2. Those prices don't include shipping. Some part don't even ship to my country. Thanks for the suggestion. What would be the advantage of the DDR4 ?
  3. I could get the GTX 950 for $20 USD more, if the difference is noticeable. Thanks for the suggestion. There are no 280s here and R9 380 would be almost a $100 USD increase in cost. Going for i3-4170 instead of i3-6100 would save me around $15 USD. Is it important to go for the i3-4170 in your configuration ? Thanks for the motherboard and ram suggestion. GTX 950 is a slight bump in price and since there are multiple recommendations I will take it. Any suggestions for the Display and mouse ?
  4. Hi, I have been using a laptop for years (ASUS K53SD) and with time it has become too slow for my needs. Building a PC looks like a logical solution and since I know how to assemble one I just need help picking out parts. These are the parts I plan to buy unless you convince me otherwise: CPU: Intel Core i3 6100 3.7 GHz - (1279 kn / $187.12 USD) GPU: Gigabyte GTX 750 Ti OC 2GB - (1399 kn / $205 USD) RAM: Kingston DDR3 8GB PC12800 1600 MHz - (399 kn / $58 USD) or Kingston DDR4 HX Savage 8GB 2133MHz - (539 kn / $79 USD) HDD: WESTERN DIGITAL Blue WD20EZRZ SATA3 64MB cache 5400rpm 2 TB - (699 kn / $102 USD) Total so far: ~3916 kn / $573 USD Motherboard: I need help picking one out from here or here, it would be great if under 500 kn / $73 USD. Display: I need help picking one out from here or here, it would be great if under 1300 kn / $190 USD. I'm also looking for recommendations for a wireless mouse, I have big hands so its hard to find a good one. Thanks guys, you are awesome !
  5. Which one of these would you pick ? 1) INTEL Core i3 3240 BOX, s. 1155, 3.40GHz, 3MB cache, GPU, DualCore 2) AMD A8 X4 7670K BOX, Black Edition, s. FM2+, 3.6GHz, 4MB cache, GPU R7, Quad Core 3) AMD FX X6 6300 BOX, s. AM3+, 3.5GHz, 14MB cache, Six Core 4) AMD A10 X4 7700K BOX, Black Edition, s. FM2+, 3.8GHz, 4MB cache, GPU R7, Quad Core 5) AMD FX X8 8300 BOX, s. AM3+, 3.3GHz, 16MB cache, Eight Core 6) AMD A10 X4 7800 BOX, s. FM2+, 3.9GHz, 4MB cache, GPU R7, Quad Core 7) AMD FX X6 6350 BOX, s. AM3+, 3.9GHz, 14MB cache, Six Core 8) INTEL Core i3 6100 BOX, s. 1151, 3.7GHz, 3MB cache, GPU, Dual Core I forgot to mention what will I use the PC for: -Most of my time is spent programming, 3D modeling and rendering -I play games, mostly Battlefield 4 -Record tutorials and edit video -Photoshop Since I can do all that already on my laptop Asus K53SD, I know that any of those CPUs will be good for me since its better than a mobile CPU. But I am not sure what is the best choice for me. More cores would be better for rendering and faster cores would be better for everything else. Some of these CPUs include graphics and that is something I don't need, so I'm not sure if they cost more because of that. Hmmm... I need your experience here
  6. None of the links you provided include shipping to Croatia. So here are the prices of those items in my country: Intel Core i5-4460 ($260 USD) GIGABYTE GA-H81M ($71 USD) MUSHKIN RadioActive FrostByte is the cheapest 8 GB stick ($53 USD) WESTERN DIGITAL Red WD10EFRX is the cheapest 1 TB HDD ($95 USD) XFX AMD RADEON R9 380 DD 2GB DDR5 is the cheapest R9 380 ($250 USD) CHIEFTEC Smart Series SFX-500GD-C is the cheapest 500W 80+ ($103 USD) So your configuration without the case would cost me : $832 USD
  7. Hello everyone, I'm new to this forum but I've heard a lot of good things about it, so here I come I need help choosing parts for my new PC. The graphics card I plan to use is a Gigabyte GTX 750 Ti, but I need help with the rest. My location is Croatia and my budget is around $550 USD, but keep in mind that I can't just pick one of the 500USD builds and make it because prices in my country are much higher than in Canada or US. So this is what I have so far: GPU: Gigabyte GTX 750 Ti 2GB - $190 USD CPU: ? I have to pick one from here: https://www.links.hr/hr/procesori-0506#/pageSize=24&viewMode=list&orderBy=10&pageNumber=1 RAM: 8 GB of memory is around $60 USD in my country, but the type and frequency will depend on the CPU SSD: I will use the one I already have in my laptop. Its a 240 GB Kingston SSD ODD: Don't need one. Power Supply: I don't know how much Wattage do I need, so I need help with picking one out from here :https://www.links.hr/hr/napajanja-0527#/pageSize=24&viewMode=list&orderBy=11&pageNumber=1 Case: I will buy a used one so its not in the budget. It would be great if you could also recommend a good budget 1080p display. Thanks !
  8. I'm not a partner and I can use custom thumbnails. You should be aware that starting any business will cost you a lot of time an money that you might not make back.
  9. Just a few movies are shot in 4K and movies wont drive the mainstream adoption.
  10. Guys you have to consider the whole production process. Eventually we will all have 4K but a lot of things has to happen before that. Companies and Studios have to replace their cameras with 4K or greater, they have to get new workstations to be able to edit and produce the content... I think that in the beginning 4K video will be streamed in a lower bitrate to cover more bandwidth limits and then it will probably increase over time.
  11. I just wanted to say hi to everyone ! Linus is always saying how great you guys are so I decided to join the fun.
  12. Thanks for the reply ! I have a really great backpack for my notebook that has built in pockets for external drives so carrying one around wont be a problem. But will the SSHD really give me a noticeable boost ?
  13. Hi everyone ! This is my first post but I'm watching LinusTech Tips for a few years now. So first of I have a Asus K53SD. I use it for some light gaming, game development, image editing and as a media server for my TV. It has a 500GB 7200rpm 2.5" HDD inside, and that was fine for a while but now I need more storage space. Most of the space on my HDD is used by my Music and Movies collection. Should I : 1. Buy an external HDD 2. Buy a SSHD ( the best one I can get is aSeagate ST1000LM014 1TB - 8GB MLC SSD ) and convert my current HDD into an external drive 3. Buy a SSD for my Notebook and convert my current HDD into an external drive I think buying an external HDD would give me the most space but if an SSHD would upgrade my Notebook in the same time then maybe that is a better option. But then why not go only SSD and keep the collection on an external drive, maybe because It will cost me the same and I wont get much more storage space because I would have to use the 500 GB drive as an external drive. What do you recommend ? Maybe something I didn't think of, thanks guys ! Edit: I forgot to mention that English is not my first language, hopefully I didn't make a lot of mistakes.
