For sure go for a CPU upgrade, especially with Ryzen being the hot thing (no pun intended). Pick up a Ryzen of your choice, some DDR4 memory, and a B350/B450 motherboard, and you're golden.

    Build something like this instead....
It'll perform better and will have a better resale value...
2600 when overclocked performs similar to a 2600x. Currently 2600x is around €50 more than a 2600. Which doesn't justify then extra performance gained.
I have even managed to add a 1080ti..

A discrete gpu is required to make the system usable. So delaying the gpu purchase should mean delaying the entire purchase. Personally, if there is no pressing need I'd wait for independent RTX 2070 benchmarks and availability.

^That's true. Most of it is triggered by mouse movement, opening new tabs, refreshing webpage etc.
The thing is that these spikes are much more mild and have a curvature when I am on my stock frequency settings with voltage offset -100mV.
But when OCed, the spikes can jump up to 20c while browsing.

Perhaps the title is a bit misleading.
Casual (low) workload causes this rather than being on idle.

Riley and I have known each other for almost 8 years and we've worked together in some capacity for over half of that time.

He asked to review a graphics card as a total joke. That's not his forte and he's perfectly comfortable with that. Even back at NCIX Tech Tips (as he mentioned on the WAN Show today) he got Ivan's help with a lot of the benchmarking stuff. Big deal.

You also need to understand that he's not some intern who isn't sure about his job security or his skills. Evaluating gaming cards may not be one of them but who cares? That's not what he was hired to do.

Riley was brought in as a specialist for TechLinked.

Something you guys might also not realize is that Riley is perfectly comfortable dishing out his share of trolling off-camera - even if he's not sure where the limits are yet with the live audience.

If LMG was a horrible place to work and anyone actually took me seriously about this stuff, we'd probably have a little more turnover, don't you think? These are very talented people who could get a job tomorrow if they felt like it.

We tease each other, but it's part of having some fun at work instead of being all corporate.

I messaged Riley to tell him people were upset at the way he was treated on the WAN Show and to make sure he was okay and he had to go find the timestamps people were posting to see why he was supposed to be upset.

So it's probably worthwhile to try re-watching with all of that in mind..

Czech retailer posted some more info about coming 9th gen Intel CPUs. The information contains price, frequencies and also which of the CPUs will be soldered and which not.
Here's chart that sums it all up

About the price. This includes tax, in euros without tax it'd be:
    i5 9600K 240€   ≈  $250??
    i7 9700K 350€   ≈  $350??
    i9 9900K 450€   ≈  $450-500??
I am just speculating about the price in USD, not sure how much different the price will be in the US.

If this is true, we can see, that soldered IHS is really making a comeback. However, it's interesting that the i5 will be leftout and will still use paste. It's shame. The i5 is really great mid range CPU and many people would benefit, if it used soldered IHS.

I didn't say your prices didn't make sense. I was just a little confused about why some of the Euro prices you posted had the Euro : US dollar ratio close to 1:1.

    For example:
The 21% VAT clears that up mostly. Really interesting that the retail price is so high in Europe though. Unfortunately that's just the way it is. I don't know enough about international trade to begin to comprehend why that's the case, so whatever I guess?

Thanks for the clarification and the news. Interesting to see that Intel is finally going to solder (some of) their CPUs.

As i said, price in CZK includes tax (VAT) which is 21%. So:
    13 990/1,21 = 11 561CZK = 449EUR without tax
And so on and so on.

Also price in the US is usually lower, because there are no import duties or anything like that. For example take Ryzen 2700X. On Amazon.com it costs $320. However, on Amazon.de the price is 320€ = $375, so yeah. I think my prices do make some sense. You don't even know how much cheaper HW is in the US when compared to Europe or rest of the world. In the US RTX2080Ti costs $1200, but here? The price statrs at $1450 and some AIB cards cost up to $1700 and in some countries the price is even higher.

But isn't tax preincluded in Europe? Meaning that 1450 is including tax? That would mean that if you take out taxes it would cost about the same.

Yes I prefer the looks of product and lets say product a cost 100€ and product b costs 200€ and looks better BUT both do the exact same job, I'm most likely going to take the 100€ product and mod it myself as I like it. Stuff like getting a bland black keyboard, taking it a apart and painting the top cover instead of going for a flashy custom cherry mx keyboard.

BUT if product b would be lets say 120€ and that most likely is just about how much I would pay for the paints or any extra materials I might get, I would go for that one. It's not about better looking = better performance, it's rather it should fit into my theme.

MaktimS got a reaction from andrewmp6 in Why does Nvidia have such a strong hold on the gaming GPU market?
I may be late, but I just want to add my two cents to this.

The reason why is Nvidia so strong and why Turing costs so much is because people are stupid and too lazy to inform themselves. And Nvidia knows how to use this to their advantage. Take GTX 400 series for example. Nvidia offered worse GPUs for more money than AMD, however they marketed the sh*t out of it and sold more units than AMD.

Nvidia is also known to do some shady things, like cheating in 3D mark so their GPUs look better but that was like 15 yrs ago.
