Really interesting video. I have been interested in some custom keycaps.. But I think getting a whole separate printer for that goes just.. You know, a bit above what I would want to pay!
 
P.S. an Epson EcoTank would have probably been easier to mod with this ink, since those don't require empty ink-tank that are specific to the printer; since the printer itself has tank to refill.
Those seem to be more expensive though, as I don't see the entry model ET-2600 or ET-2650 though.

In the video, Tae mentions you can only go 'darker' in color (e.g. a black keycap can't get a new color through this process, since it is already the darkest color) which seems to confirm a portion in the video, where Linus mentioned the black keycap did not work in transferring the image.

i mean  cry cry........ not their fault its google and their you tube album. if you took a few sec to look that up . you know its been a issue for well over 3 years now. even before  i started watching linus i knew about it.

For me,  the true answer is, good laptops are just too expensive, especially in Europe, it was just way cheaper building a PC that about doubles the performance of an equally priced laptop. 
 
If money wasn't a factor I'd definitely get one of those high end "gaming" laptops with custom BIOS etc ...  To me the small form factor is super important,  also the mobility would be welcome (to move it around in my room ? ) 
 
 
Good point about the sound - possibly -  my Lenovo is really not very loud at all, it's a cheapo mobile Intel CPU tho so that may be the reason. 
Yeap, that's what I like about laptops - no (minimal) tinkering... It just feels more solid. 
 
My PC I have the feeling just moving it a few cm already messes it up sometimes lol, not to mention adding / removing parts... 
 
 
Don't get me wrong - it *is* fun building,  but when I'm done I rather just don't want to mess with it anymore - which is in my experience nigh impossible with a custom built PC, there's always "something"  

Not everyone wants to take their computer for a walk, I guess. Also, a desktop can be an ongoing project that keeps getting upgrades as time goes by. With laptop you are kind of limited to what you can improve.

you cant custom build a laptop. truly. a desktop is soo much easier to work on repair wise. 
the components are under less thermal stress in a desktop. 
I have a dell g5 5587 with an i7-8750h cpu paired with a 1050 ti. that thing gets toasty before the GPU fan died when I replaced the thermal compound. I ordered a few replacement fans and the plug was never right.
 
if I ever bought another laptop. it would be a POS that could browse the web. 

I see the purpose for laptops, but they don't fill the same role for me as desktops. Not to mention that due to power usage, even the fastest hardware in a laptop is still on par with the mid range stuff from a generation (or 2) back.

What are the advantages of a laptop over a desktop?
 
Laptops have smaller screens, and I don't like their keyboards, and I still need a mouse.
So I need a docking station or lots of ports.
And I  am content to sit in one place while using my PC.
 
 

- Flexibility: I can configure my desktop however I want, there is limited choices with laptops (let's say there are 200 different laptops, but many more choices in just CPU + mobo + RAM configs on a desktop)
- Upgradability: If I want to change my GPU later on, add more RAM, or add more storage; that is easy on a desktop. Some are difficult and some of those upgrades are impossible or impractical on a laptop
- Great hardware that doesn't throttle, or sound like you're playing on a jet engine: My PC is barely audible while gaming, but I can't say the same for my laptop when just stressing the CPU. A laptop often times has a hard time keeping itself cool, or will just sound loud. On my PC I can mount a large air cooler and it's cool and quiet.

I wish LTT would get hold of an ESD expert and do a thorough video on proper ESD-aware procedures.

Connecting yourself electrically to grid-connected equipment like that isn't a good idea, especially since it has to be assumed that it's often the first time a particular PSU is used and plugged in - so if there's a short and grounding fault in it, you might not know until you have 120/230 V connected to your forearm! And it does little to eliminate the potential difference between the computer case/components and your body, which should be the goal. People in warm and humid climates, where the indoor relative humidity is high, can get away with sloppy and careless handling, but in cooler and drier parts of the world, the indoor humidity could be 20 %, and that's bad from an ESD perspective...

The reason why he didn't put it in the attic is that VR systems need as low latency as possible to work. if you made the cable longer, that would increase the latency a lot. if you went with a faster cable like his thunderbolt connections, that's a really expensive cable which I don't think can even reach the attic and if i did, the time it takes to translate the data from usb to thunderbolt is too much. this is the most cost effective and best solution for the best experience possible

I think that he did not like the results of the server in the attic so that's probably why kept the old system
