  1. Budget (including currency): Just looking at RAM and price not really an issue, more availability Country: Australia Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Gaming at 1080/144 OR working with lots of programs, VM's and 3 x 1080p and 1 x 4K screens Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc): I am finally upgrading my 5 year old Mobo. Most of the parts, Case, PSU, AIO, Dives, etc are being reused with the upgrade to AM5 and DDR5 being the big technology jumps. I have decided on MSI MAG X670E TomaHawk Wifi AM5 ATX Motherboard AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D 8 Core AM5 4.2GHz CPU Processor Since they are now available and reasonably priced in Australia. My problem is what RAM to get? I am looking at getting 64GB in 2 x 32 as I currently run 32GB and have almost hit the wall a few times running VM's for work. At first I was finding it hard to get options on AMD EXPO DDR5 but was able to find 6000MHz RAM near me that was not quite what I wanted. So now I am toying with ordering something and having to wait to get better 32CL RAM than the 36CL near me. The specs on this board list the following • 1DPC 1R Max speed up to 7800+ MHz • 1DPC 2R Max speed up to 6400+ MHz • 2DPC 1R Max speed up to 6400+ MHz • 2DPC 2R Max speed up to 5400+ MHz I have always had trouble following this stuff and with the new DDR5 I read somewhere that the new big chips were dual in one slot so the best I had a chance of getting with two chips was 5400MHz. Then I read that AMD was only getting 600MHz regardless, then more recently it was suggested you can get 6400MHz working now. So my questions are: 1. Will this board run a pair of DDR5 32GB 6400MHz at 6400MHz? 2. is it worth the wait and expense to get 6400MHz CL32 and max out my board for the future or should I just get 6000MHz CL36 and build it now? Appreciate your feedback!
  2. Mighty Car Mods have a thread on their FB page where they were talking about their IT infrastructure and a few have suggested a collaboration video between MCM and LTT. I personally would love to see that! MCM and LTT are the first two YouTube channels I ever subscribed to
  3. I'd like to check that the PSU I am looking at is an OK unit. I have spent so many hours reading about PSU's that my eyes are tired but the SeaSonic brand seem to have good reviews. The build is MSI Z370 Gaming Pro mATX board i5 8400 processor Samsung 850 EVO M2 SSD WD Blue 2TB HDD 8G RAM (2x4) GTX 1070 ROG Strix 8GB OC Video Card I'd like to have enough in the PSU to overclock and possibly add a second 1070 one day Was looking at SeaSonic G-650W 80Plus Gold Modular PSU The site I am looking at buying from (umart.com.au as I am in Australia) doesn't have much info on this PSU and although they do have the 550W listed I figured it was only $15 more for the 650W Thanks in advance for your advice
  4. Sorry I should have been more clear on that as I was really only looking to future proof the mobo and processor so I didn't have to spend money again rather than avoiding to work on the machine. Thank you for all your advice, great help!
  5. Hi All, long time reader but first time poster. I used to build PC's over 15 years ago but working in the Apple world took me away from Windows builds. A year ago I changed jobs and am now looking to put together a Windows rig again. I am no stranger to working inside machines and did put together a gaming rig for a friend 18 months ago but the parts from this were mostly worked out from a suggested rig on a forum at the time. As I'm doing this one for myself there is a bit more care being put into the design and I would love some input from you all on what might fit the budget. I'm starting with a few parts already and mainly would like input on the Board and Processor for my budget. The parts I have are DeepCool Steam Castle Case - so will need a Micro ATX board LG 34UM67-P Monitor MSI GeForce GTX 970 Videocard Have a Logitech Keyboard and Mouse 2Tb WD Blue HDD 1. Budget & Location $1000 AUD as I'm an Aussie 2. Aim Gaming but probably not too high end. I'm looking to play Elite and RTS games rather than FPS. Would like to future proof it as much as possible. Will look to upgrade the video card in 6-12 months if needed as the Monitor has Freesync but the current card is Nvidia. Would like to include a M2 SSD if suitable but this is something I could add in the future. 3. Monitors Already have the LG 34in Ultrawide Monitor 4. Peripherals Have a basic keyboard and mouse that will do for now 5. Why are you upgrading? Building a new machine from my case of choice and donated video card and monitor. I thank you all and look forward to your assistance
