voyager_ reacted to LIGISTX in How do I saturate my network?
I suggest you take a step back and actually try to understand what the community is trying to explain to you in all of their posts.
I understand you are young and just trying to learn, that is a really good thing! But you need to take a step back and internalize what folks are telling you... since they are all correct.
Speedtest is not "lying", the numbers it is giving you are correct; speedtest.net is, without a doubt, able to give you 100mbps results. But the question is why, and that question has been answered by 3 or 4 people...
There are really only 2 possible explinations, neither of which you will easily be able to determine, with a potential but unnlikely 3rd option.
Option 1: your ISP is seeing you are trying to hit a speedtest.net server, and they are artificually lifting the 50mbps limit on your connection to that server, and that server only. This is not difficult for them to do... but they will almost certainly never admit to doing it. They do this to try and make people beleive they are getting more then they pay for, but in reality, they are only lifiting limits to certain speed testing sites.
Option 2: your ISP hosts a speedtest.net server on its own infrastrucutre. Your ISP may be able to route your traffic within its own network at 100 mbps even if you are paying for a slower speed, but once you exit the ISP's network that is where it puts the brakes on and slows things down.
Potential option 3, but not very likely - the burst idea. In certain bursts, if the network isn't overloaded, they may provide a little more than you are paying for. I pay for 500/25, and I almost always get 600/25. They don't guarantee 600, but I typically do get 600-625 ish. I am sure if I try and download something when everyone else is trying to download something (I have cable, so it is impacted by how everyone else in your local area is hitting the network) it will likley struggle to keep me at 500, but itll certainly try to (and usually does, I rarely see anything under 500).
These are really your only options. And if you are paying for 48... you have no leg to stand on, and have almost 0 chance of making any other connection exceed 50mbps, its being limited by your ISP... they own the pipes, and they get to put speed limits on them based on what tier of service you pay for.

QSV = Quicksync, which is an Encoder chip on the iGPU of intel CPUs.
Everything is working as intended.

Depends on the game but certainly nothing to hold you back from going through with it. You'll game just fine, this issue is massively overblown and really affects people with much more severe discrepancies in CPU/GPU power. Think 10400 and a 4090 @ 1080p.

Again for those in the back: If your rig works for what you use it for, KEEP IT. The new shiny will get dull; even if you do eventually need it, it's not going anywhere and it WILL be cheaper

What are you wanting to get out of it long term and what are you planning to use it for? Pre-built is nice for the convenience factor but can be pretty limited but if all you want is storage and maybe something like plex where limited transcoding may be needed then it's a great option. If you plan to run vm's and want to really expand it then DIY is the better route. It ultimately comes down your use case.
In this case DDR4 vs DDR5 won't make a difference

Any. Literally any Gen 3 or 4 NVMe drive fits that bill. From the Crucial P3 to the Teamgroup lineup.

THIS! My wife and I use google sheets for everything from packing lists to task lists. Easy to access and maintain. If you want to get real fancy with microsoft with excel and access you generate some sweet reports

There's always Snipe-IT, but honestly unless you've got dozens and dozens of devices and you regularly loan them out, a spreadsheet would be a lot less work.

voyager_ got a reaction from Average Nerd in When will ARM be the PC CPU?
Until there is enough support, for people wanting nothing more than a chromebook they are fine. For most others it won't be until they can run everything that current systems can run. As far as business applications they may never replace x86 for home use im sure in the very far future they will have a place as either more developers create arm based applications and things similar to proton get more support to be able to run x86 on arm efficiently. But I never see x86 going anywhere atleast in my lifetime. Look at some programming languages like cobalt, many systems still run on it.

voyager_ got a reaction from Tetras in Rate my new build
maybe a 5/10, it really depends on what we are comparing it against. There some minor things I think could make it much better.
- What's with the white tag towards the top of the case above the cpu cooler?
- Red Sata Cable
- Get rid of the green on the power supply.
- Add a rear exhaust fan, maybe a matching rgb fan to go with the lights in the front.
- Add additional lights across the top of the case pointing down. The lighting only in the front is kinda harsh and unbalanced.
- Clean up the cables behind the pc, mine is oriented similar to yours, I used some velcro ties to bundle some of the wires so they didn't look all over the place.
- Printer paper as a mouse pad.
If this is your first build great job! looks overall pretty clean, only things I can say are just nitpicking.

Very true. Now I feel really old, I had a few beige computers/monitors and I actually have Back to the Future, A team, and Knight Rider hotwheels on hanging by my desk at work.

Don't hate on the speakers, some of the best ones I ever had were on old set of Boston Acoustics that came with a Gateway computer (Shit im old) in the early 2000's -late 90's I think... They sounded amazing and I was still using them 8 years ago until my sister in laws evil dog ate the cables. Or a set of Bose speakers that came will a dell. Both were that FANTASTIC beige-ish plastic that looked dirty and faded brand new.

voyager_ reacted to Dedayog in Fastest way to spread the word of folding to non tech users.
I think we are trying to talk about FoH and why spreading the word and getting people to do it may run into challenges. It's not as simple as just spreading the word.
I get it, being young and finding a cause to back is a big deal. It feels like it's such a no-brainer, right? Wouldn't everyone donate PC time to help cure diseases!!!! Duh!!!
But it's more nuanced than that, and people who are older and more experienced are trying to explain that to you. But then again, with your age and passion comes other factors that make it difficult to get thru 🙂
Hope you realize people aren't trying to undercut your idea, but they ARE fleshing out the other sides of the coin in making it happen.
