  1. Try running this command from a root terminal: systemctl reboot --firmware-setup If that gets you into the UEFI, try disabling any fast boot options and see if that fixes the issue.
  2. Found something on eBay that gave me an idea. For about $150, you can buy old laptop motherboards with pretty good dedicated graphics (i.e. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/794987-501-HP-Envy-15-with-Intel-i7-5500U-GeForce-GTX-870M-Motherboard/233592673972). If a cooling solution could be fashioned up, it could be an absolute price-to-performance king with an external monitor and some kind of jerry-rigged case.
  3. Throttlestop has worked quite well for me so far (i7-1065G7, Yoga C940) - just make sure you install the 32-bit version of this Visual C++ for it to work: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4032938/update-for-visual-c-2013-redistributable-package
