Also I wonder just how much anyone would want to see Linus go through the same ESD precautions every single video. That's just dead air time that I'm pretty sure most viewers would be sick of by the time they've seen it twice. And of course you would have to spell it out and do the same for each person in the video or someone might think they were being irresponsible.

Try unpacking large pallets of stuff wrapped in plastic without massive buildup of ESD and then come tell me that it's irrelevant.

Eh, in the ~25 years I've been messing around with PCs and electronics, I haven't managed to break a single thing due to ESD and I say this as someone who has never tried to avoid ESD at all.

I use bone dry tissues all the time, isopropyl just makes the job easier.  I personally would recomend against using water, but not having the alcohol isn't going to hurt

Not point getting industrial unless your running over 1500 rpm most of the time. Thats noisy

I wouldn't be without one, used one for about 13 years now with good reason.

Speaking as a custodian who deals with this: if you want your carpet to last longer, get one. Don't get a cheap one, get a good one. Cheap ones discolour right away and start to get hard and crack. Get one twice the size you think you'll need, because without realizing it, you will likely use more space to roll back and get out of your chair. I know I do because I always hit the cabinet behind me.
 
The carpet I'm on is from the year 1980, when the home was put together. So we really don't care about it, thus I don't use one. But you'll eventually create ruts in the carpet, which is permanent damage, and also is harder to roll out of when moving. If on newer carpet, I'd get one regardless as it can disperse your weight more evenly across a flatter plane, lessening the overall long term damage.
 
Ultimately the choice is yours, but that's just my two cents having to deal with this stuff at work (and having old ass carpet at home).

Maybe try running GPU-z or similar to see whats happening just before the crash?

Sure. All you need to do is make sure you have a permanent gap so no electrical parts can short circuit with the tray.
 
 

I wouldn't risk it. All it would take is a couple of washers to give you some standoff height to separate the board from touching the metal.

Depends what you need. Do you want silence, air flow, air pressure, rgb, longevity....
