Then you should take a look at laptops from the early 2000s:

I had to check one of these out last year, as it was left in the shed and had rusted (not even the case worth salvaging )

AND it is heavier than it looks.

For gaming the ryzen 9 3950x has huge amount of cache. I would disable 8 cores and try to get stable all core clock of over 4ghz. If you can do this, this would be a beast for gaming.

    God I wish Ryzen 9 3900 (non-X) was released to retail. Even better, a lower binned 16-core 65-watt "3950".

It make more sense to put a 65-watt chip in a laptop than a 105-watt 16-core monstrosity (or the same chip with hefty downclocking or significant power limit)

My question is, is like the Alienware where you can actually replace the CPU? If so, I see value in this - and good competition.

    Update from XMG:

    Summary:
In typical gaming laptop fashion, the 4900HS has already been dethroned by a more powerful laptop, the XMG Apex 15 featuring a full desktop Ryzen 9 3950X.

    My Thoughts:
STOP STOP. THEY'RE ALREADY DEAD. It looks like high-end laptops are getting extremely competitive this year and I am more than happy. Per derbauer's own graphs, the R9 3900X is 44% faster than the 4900HS, it'll be interesting to watch the gaming and professional laptop space the rest of the year and onwards.

There are some technically. Some AMD Phenom IIs could have cores unlocked via ways to more. Most of the time they were 6 cores that weren't stable and then locked to 4. Some were then unlocked to 6 by consumers and then were found out to only be stable with 5 cores unlocked so that's what they had

more performance in "5 popular titles"

those titles being CSGO, fortnite, pubg, overwatch, and GTA V. All games cherry picked to benefit intel. On top of that:

The only tangible difference is in CSGO. otherwise, performance is within testing error basically (not that testing error means anything on this site, since there's no controlling for variables.)

Since we've already seen how Intel's 8 core are slower than AMD's 8 core when limited to the same power target (cuz laptop, can't just slap a huge cooler onto it), that means Intel CPUs cant even be paired with anything that says RTX on laptops without CPU bottleneck then. Thx userbenchmark

I haven't watched the video, but is this just another one of those cases where if you select the right measurement metrics you can get anything to sit at the top?

The last couple of times people tried to claimed benchmarks were biased it turned out to be user error.

I've got a much much older one sitting under a chair in the living room right now, it's got a Pentium M in it and a 720p screen from before 720p was even a thing! It's horribly slow, I used to use it for music streaming with an app from Xubuntu. I think it could maybe browse a little internet still but it's pretty dated even for that. Also the battery is 100% dead again and I'm not replacing it again.

Here's my dad's old work laptop. It's a Dell Lattitude D620 which was introduced (according to google) in 2006 being one of Dell's first business oriented dual core laptops. We used to beg our dad to use it to play online games on sites like miniclip and one that I think started with an n but I don't remember. It actually still works somehow, but it is sluggishly slow. I need to replace the old hard drive in it but haven't gotten around to it. Did anyone else have one of these laptops back in the day?

One thing worth keeping in mind is AMD seems to be a bit optimistic with its numbering schemes.  Just because a cpu has a 3xxx name doesn’t always mean its zen2, and a 4xxx number doesn’t mean the cpu is actually zen3

That's probably going to be the i3 10350K tbh. Or 11350K. Or i3 42690GZYM edition. Based on current naming trends

Intel is pushing really aggressively in the clock speed direction, but if AMD just randomly crapped out a super high clocked dual core or something as the "world's first 6GHz CPU," it really would be the best way to dunk on clock-chasing competition.

What a dishonest and clickbait headline.
What the WHO is saying is, stay at home if you can and keep calm. Maybe play some video games or read a book.
But don't spend copious amounts of time playing games to the point where it gets in the way of more important things.

If you don't understand the difference between "play some game for fun" and "I play games to the point where it's harmful behavior" then you might actually have a problem. WHO is saying the former is good, but the latter is bad. It shouldn't be a hard concept to grasp.

Also, the advice given during a pandemic is not the same as the advice given out during "normal days". Staying at home 24/7 is not typically recommended either, but it is during a pandemic. So there is nothing hypocritical about giving different advice at different times and situations.
