Minus 8TB lost to redundancy :( 4 more drive slots though so I could add 12TB more to it in current config :P

Prepare yourself - I will be competing in the storage wars as well :P 4x2TB + 2x8TB HDDs if my budget allows...

    @TopHatProductions115 Oh its on!

I may also enter this competition but it's going to be a while. My money is tied up in other projects at the moment.

@TopHatProductions115 I think as a wolf you would run away with you tail inbetween your legs considering I find your numbers cute.

I plan on going big (storage-wise). My own personal Vault no bigger than a mid-tower.

? IronWolf 14TB HDDs will trample both of you, @Schnoz and @Windows7ge Now tell me, what is 6x14 again? The number of terabytes I will have in one workstation (leaving out a 4TB HDD, four 2TB HDDs, and other drives that I have yet to mention) :P /s

I plan for this mini-ITX server to hold anywhere between 100 to 150TB depending on how many drives I wind up fitting in it.

Give it 32GB of RAM, a SFP+ NIC.

The goal is maximum power efficiency but with maximum performance/storage. If it draws less than 150W I'll be happy.

Hmm @TopHatProductions115 Seems we need to join forces to defeat the evil Schnoz.

jokes on you, I'm in credit card debt! XD

    Spoiler

    ?

but if you want my address to send me some of those sweet sweet TB's, I can do that XD

@Jtalk4456 You've given me a great idea for a little joke program.

    A "Add More Storage" installer.

A program that adds storage to your computer.

You SHOULDN'T use that as a scam raking in tons of money and you DEFINITELY should NOT share the money with me since I gave you the idea

@Jtalk4456 I'm getting more and more idea of how I could add to it.

I think I'll write it following a similar scheme to Download More RAM.

I cannot give you an ETA but when I get around to it I'll let you know.

OK, so do you guys remember this conversation exactly 2 months ago? I finally got around to writing the application and I need some guinea pigs willing participants to test it.

It's not as pretty as the DownloadMoreRAM website because I'm no artist. It's more entertaining than beautiful. It also uses my sense of humor which isn't like the RAM website so don't freak out.

So, who's willing to trust a complete stranger on the internet? If you're worried about it it should run in a VM just fine. I'm also willing to post the code but fair warning I'm not a coder by day or night so if it makes your eyes bleed don't blame me.

Can't wait to start this summer's upgrade :D Battle of the storage beasts will truly commence...

    If I end up with 8 HDDs, I'll try RAID 10 :)

For my own backup servers I think I've finally decided on using 10TB drives. Specifically the Seagate IronWolf NAS drives. Seems to offer the best Cost:TB when it's on sale and when it's not it isn't much more.

The only difference I see between them and the pro series (besides the 14TB option) is the claim that the pro's can handle 120TB more writes. This isn't going to be a real difference maker for me since this is for archival storage. With 10TB drives I'll be able to cram 90TB in a chassis that's smaller than a mid-tower & if I hack it a bit I bet I can fit 120TB.
