Straussy reacted to BondiBlue in HP Elite desk 800 g5 sff
That motherboard does not use a standard power supply, and it also isn't a standard form factor either. I would only use it with a bus powered, low profile GPU. It's a nice computer, but it's not well suited to fitting a full sized GPU.

Straussy reacted to SavageNeo in Whats the diffrence
Basically crosshair Hero has 60amp VRM stages and dark hero has 90amp VRM stages. but they are both overkill for any Ryzen cpu really.

Straussy reacted to Haro in 1600 af or 3100
That would be the logic but not in this case
The 1600af has a worse imc and ipc count
Not to mention the miserable fpu ( compared to the 3100)

I'll toss my 2 cents into the 1600 af bucket.

in the long run, more cores is better.
for gaming 3100 may have a better clock.

If you're thinking about playing at a higher resolution in the future, wait for the new RTX 30 Series to come out ~end of year.
Otherwise, your 1080 ti will hold up nicely.

Straussy reacted to Mick Naughty in Graphics card comparison
Because water blocks aren’t free.
His card is outdated and could be out of warranty assuming it has one.
Still an upgrade in several ways. So if the end user wants those then it’s justified.

Straussy reacted to Statik in Graphics card comparison
What FPS are you currently getting? I don't think it's worth that price for a used card that old. I'd assume your 1080Ti is still a beast, and you could get a brand new 2080 Super for almost that price, and they're super close to the Ti (no pun intended). I'd recommend just waiting for new cards.

I’d do it. Without a doubt. Especially if you’re using an air cooled system.

Straussy reacted to Frappy in Seeking opinions on GPU upgrade
Well, if you want more performance per buck you should go with AMD (RX 5700) IF you don't mind having driver issues.
Otherwise, I'd recommend the RTX 2060 or the Super version. Super is quite more efficient and what not. When I looked into the stats, it's kind of even worth the money.

Straussy reacted to SkyPhantom in Seeking opinions on GPU upgrade
Since most of the mainstream is on console, developers are limited in what they can do. With the new console generation developers will be able go gear their games towards more powerful consoles, therefore making games more graphically demanding. All things considered the 1070 is still a good card, but if the OP is going to use a card for 5 years getting whatever is the most powerful is probably the best in the long run.

Straussy reacted to minibois in Should wifi work with this?
Neither of those components have wireless internet built in, because one is a motherboard with no Wifi and the other is an SSD.
Get a pcie WiFi card if you need WiFi.

Straussy reacted to Eigenvektor in Best way to go about changing motherboard
A clean install of Windows already removes the partition and/or formats it, so there will be nothing left except a fresh install of Windows. There's no need to manually remove Windows beforehand. You do need to backup your data though.

Straussy reacted to it_dont_work in Heads Up - Avoid PC Case Gear!!! (Australia)
Bought thousands from them over the last decade, never had a problem with legitimate claims for warranty, little silly to expect a replay so soon, its only been 1 work day since Friday (Tuesday is a public holiday in vic)
Call wednesday and ask, accc is just going to tell you to try to work it out with them before they do anything, you need to gain some sort of complaint number or acknowledgment from pccg before they'll take action, by which stage they'll probably have gien you your money back. Unless you just returned something and changed your mind, then under consumer law they've no reason to give you back store credit.
Most of the time I just use PLE or MSY, price is usually the best returns have been a bit dodgy in the past.

Straussy reacted to LogicWeasel in Thoughts on Laptop
What it's like to have a laptop made of plastic? Costs less and is more common than the more special-order only gaming laptop made of carbon fiber I suppose? ?
Why do you feel the need to add an SSD? That listing says it comes with a 512 GB NVMe SSD, those are the kind you want anyway. If that's not enough storage and there's room for another one, sure make it two if you want.

Straussy reacted to LauriHimself in Suggestions for motherboards
either the
ASRock B450M/AC Micro ATX AM4
or the
Gigabyte B450M DS3H WIFI Micro ATX AM4
according to PC Partpicker those are your only two mATX choices
there are a few more mini ITX boards if you want to go that small
https://pcpartpicker.com/products/motherboard/#e=1&f=8&sort=-rating&page=1

Straussy reacted to badreg in Want to change to Micro-ATX motherboard
No, your MSI board is ATX. If you are switching to an mATX case, get an mATX board. Otherwise, you're either paying more for an equivalent ITX board, losing out on expandability, or possibly getting worse cooling/VRMs.

Straussy reacted to Mateyyy in 1080Ti vs 5700XT
Well, you might be right, but we can't know for certain. Battlefield 1 (2016) used to take up about 4GB of VRAM at 4K Ultra, while BF5 (2018) uses close to 6-7GB, for example. I'm not saying 11GB is required, I'm just saying that having it won't hurt, neither now nor in the near future.

Straussy reacted to Mateyyy in 1080Ti vs 5700XT
Really no reason to swap out the 1080 Ti for a 5700 XT. FPS-wise, they're neck in neck, but with the 1080 Ti you're getting 3GB of extra VRAM, so I'd say changing it for a 5700 XT would be a downgrade.
