I've just upgraded some components in my computer. replaced my 1gen i7 860, 6gb ddr3, cooler and mobo. with 8700k (haven't overclocked yet) z370 taichi mobo 16gb ddr4 3000mhz noctua nd-nh15 got a gigabyte gtx 970 g1 gaming I'm find it very slow and not seeing much of an improvement over the i7-860 in terms on preview/playback and render times when rendering a 46 second clip in AE takes about an hour. CPU temps are around 45-60 degrees. i'm not sure if my expectation are too high or there is some setting i've not on.

Thanks everyone. Still undecided with the two options especially with the PCI-e lanes. 8700k being only16. I'd prefer to stay with intel I plan on making minor upgrades over the years. adding a m.2, dual or quad memory (currently a bit pricey for ram). My main concern with the 8700k is the PCI-e lanes and which one can handle 4k in premiere and after effects better. From what i understand 6850k would be better if i plan to add a m.2, maybe a thunderbolt or 10gb nic. all things i could live without at this moment in time. please correct me if i'm wrong.

Hi, I'm planning on swapping out my old Intel i7 860 cpu and the motherboard it came with for something that can handle my workload. I edit a lot of photos and started to edit videos too so i'm looking for something that will last me for a few years. I plan to use it for content creation using the adobe suite. I'm not gonna use it for gaming. I've narrowed it down to 6850k or 8700k both similar in price latter being £20 more. 16gb single stick of ram currently use gtx 970
