  1. Looks like I forgot to put on some things that cover the CPU cooler screws. I guess that was shorting out the motherboard. It works fine now! Thanks for the help!
  2. Thank you for the help so far. I've tried these steps before (except removing the cpu cooler and cpu since I needed to buy something to safely take off the thermal paste). But I went through them again. I got some coffee filters to clean off the thermal paste since I'm told they work well. I'll try checking out the CPU later tonight, although I was very careful with it the first time. Going to add some new info that might help to the original post (9 - 12 on the log).
  3. Finished building my first computer, but the screen is just black with no signal. All the fans come on, the motherboard power LED comes on, and the motherboard aesthetic lights come on. I got it to work for a while earlier but it suddenly started doing this again. Part list: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/wHnd4C The SSD is from my old computer, everything else is new. The motherboard doesn't seem to have a system warning speaker but it does have 4 warning lights: Boot, VGA, DRAM, and CPU. So it wouldn't post. Here is a sort of log of things I tried after leaving battery out for 15 mins to restart CMOS, and some other tips found online: First the DRAM light was on. Tried 1 stick of ram in all slots and it didn't work so I bought new ram. The DRAM warning light didn't come up anymore. It still wouldn't post and the Boot warning light was now on. I removed 1 stick of ram and for some reason it worked and went to bios screen. This was with HDMI plugged into the motherboard, not the graphics card (tried both). Tried to install linux mint from a flash drive. Linux mint failed to install (Grub installation failed). Formatted the SSD and made new partitions and the install worked. It asked to restart and I picked yes. It restarted and stayed on a black screen with a blinking underscore for a few minutes until I manually restarted it (I probably should have waited). It started doing black screen with no signal again. Tried plugging hdmi in both graphics card and on board graphics, but there was no change. I don't remember seeing any warning lights at this point but I could be wrong. I unplugged the SSD from the motherboard and unplugged its power. Still no signal, but now the VGA warning light was on. Took the graphics card out and VGA warning light wasn't on anymore. *unknown things tried here* DRAM warning light was on. Took the ram out, turned it on and the light was still there. Took out everything except cpu, cpu cooler, fans, powersupply, motherboard(with built in graphics), and the case. DRAM warning light still came up. Put one stick of RAM back in and it started all the way to bios. But the boot warning light was on. Put linux USB flash drive in the motherboard usb. Wouldn’t post. Tried putting it in the case usb and got the same issue. Took the flash drive out and put the SSD back in. DRAM and CPU warning lights were slowly alternating. So seems like the RAM was bad and the harddrive was bad i guess? But if its saying the graphics card is bad too maybe its just the motherboard?
  4. Thanks for all the advice and information so far guys! Hmmm then if I do decide to overclock, would the CPU cooler I have there be good enough? Or would I need a better one?
  5. Hello I'm building my first PC and I was wondering if these parts were ok: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/Ck94KZ I already have the harddrive. Its from my old computer but its on there for clarity. I do not plan on overclocking it (and I wouldn't know how anyway). Are there way better parts for around the same price? Is one of these parts horrible? Is the thermal paste ok? Thanks in advance for any advice you can give me!
