The VGA port alone is a good reason to get it because my university refuses to replace those installed VGA projectors and even for those rooms with 1080p TVs, none of them have USB C (at least I’m not aware of any TV with USB C port). The struggle is real when you’re about to present in class but there’s no working dongle.

I wonder if this will work on an iPad Pro because many USB C hubs that works on a Mac is a hit or miss on the iPad Pro unless it’s MFi certified.

DrDerp reacted to Fasauceome in Asus Caught Being Malicious - Zephyrus G15 has fan vents blocked by black paper. Reason Unknown
On the one hand, it's much more spicy drama to believe that Asus is being bribed. On the other hand, Asus wants to make good products that do well in reviews, so this would be some serious self sabotage, as all the other Ryzen powered laptops, from their competitors, that are not being blocked are gonna look like better products, as opposed to giving AMD a bad look.

DrDerp reacted to 5x5 in Asus Caught Being Malicious - Zephyrus G15 has fan vents blocked by black paper. Reason Unknown
So recently, a few youtube channels and people on Reddit have taken to repasting their Zephyrus G15 models and have stumbled upon something very peculiar. The fan cut-outs for airflow are blocked by black paper for seemingly no reason. Asus have failed to give adequate reasoning as to why those covers exist as removing them yields a universal improvement to the laptop. Thermals go down by 5-10*C on both CPU and GPU and clockspeeds go up.

SPECULATION: The current hypothesis I've read here and on several other forums is that this is yet another bribe from Intel to make the mobile Ryzen 4000 look hot and bad. But that sounds a bit far fetched to me. While Intel have done VERY shady (and illegal things) in the past, we need more evidence to corroborate any such claims. Currently, it remains as Asus' retarded decision. But it's peculiar that this black paper has only appeared on the Zephyrus G15 and the older Ryzen 3750H-based GA502. The Zephyrus M and other Zephyrus models have all had open fan ventilation. This is the primary piece of evidence people have used to give credence to the Intel theory.

I welcome thoughts and opinions. @genexis_x and @LukeSavenije will have a fun time with this one I bet

DrDerp reacted to RejZoR in Microsoft reveals why no Surface device has Thunderbolt and why you can’t upgrade your RAM
It wouldn't be Direct Memory Access anymore if you somehow restrict it. They could call it SDMA or Secure DMA and place some sort of restrictions on it. Problem with hardware is, when flaw is found, there is no easy way in fixing it. Which makes sense why MS opted for simply not including it.

DrDerp reacted to wanderingfool2 in Microsoft reveals why no Surface device has Thunderbolt and why you can’t upgrade your RAM
You missed the first sentence of the quote.
So how is MS supposed to fix DMA if it bypasses the OS...DMA devices are designed to be able to bypass OS items; which is why they have been dangerous for years.  The hardware itself is usually the one that needs to change, DMA devices in general provide a more open window for attack. (Just like how firewire on Macs for a while allowed you full access).  DMA devices are just more dangerous.

In my opinion though, this just seems like an excuse.  Soldered ram and no thunderbolt on consumer laptops to me just says they are making excuses why they won't put it in.

For a screen this size, you need to look at ppi, not overall resolution. The SE has 326ppi which makes it a Retina Display. It’s a fine display that nobody ever complained about when the iPhone 6,7, and 8 had it.

Alright, but let’s go back to when that screen. How bad is it actually? It’s bright, P3 calibrated, and it’s a Retina display.

Now let’s look at all the other specs. The SE has the fastest SoC on the market with fantastically low power consumption, massive battery life, a leading camera system w/ SmartHDR and 4K 60Hz video, water resistance, stereo speakers, TouchID, WiFi 6, Dual SIM support, and Haptic Touch.

    Now that’s a premium f*cking phone for $399.

I like it aesthetically, but my issues with the playstation controllers will never really be solved. I don't like the symmetrical analog stick placement on them.

Haptic feedback is cool, much better than the archaic weighted motors for rumble that cause me to instantly turn off any rumble feature. Not sure on the trigger feedback. I would probably leave it off myself.

I'm disappointed and disgusted that legislators would use "pitiful children" as an excuse to enact a bill infringing on people's privacy. Also, I'm confused just how weakening end-to-end encryption would protect children from predators on social media.

This is what the Nazis did 80 years ago. They had "lawful access" to open private lettters, which is sort of the same as a encryptet end-to-end message, with the difference being, that your encryption key was basically nothing but trust. And now that we can't even trust the government and companies to handle our information with care, we're supposed to give up the last wall that was protecting our data. Funny...

Also it violates constitution rights to privacy. (I'll have to take time later to find the specifics as to what Constitutional amendment and court cases that supports this)

My biggest question is why is it called "Earn It Act" ... maybe because certain party members believe that privacy needs to be earned? (at the risk of sounding political here) /s

It's a hell of a lot more than that. Besides the online game play, it's got massively improved visuals. Here are some screenshot I took. I tried to line them up exactly, but it's not perfect.

The textures and lighting are vastly improved. You can use wide-screen without it just zooming in the image. 60fps is possible instead of being capped at 30 (and they're working on adding support for higher framerates). And finally, they actually added subtitles to the game and fixed the audio balance issues! It was damn near impossible to hear what they were saying in the original.
