Vod reacted to airborne spoon in What would it take to start mining bitcoin?
If you want to start mining BTC you need to buy an ASIC or 5 and have a location with very low cost electricity and a cooler climate.
An ASIC will cost about $1300-$2000 each and will require 240v and usually around 10A each so you need to have a breaker box that can support that.

Since you say you say you can get some GPU's cheap then you are talking about building a rig for mining ETH which is currently the most profitable alt coin. However RVN is a close second and my speculation is whenever ETH gets around to going POS them RVN will jump as the most profitable.

To build a mining rig you need a cheap CPU and 8gb RAM, and a MB that is cheap but also supports as many PCI lanes as you intend on having GPU's. Most MB have like 4 but if you intend on getting a full blown rig and slowly adding more GPU's to it then get one that can support like 10+. You will also need 1x to 16x riser cards, they are cheap and can be found on Amazon. I prefer the ones that use PCI power connectors instead of MOLEX Because MOLEX tend to fail from drawing too much power. Then PSU you will need a PSU that can support all the crap you're going to use. I prefer server PSU's with a breakout board for as much stuff as it's wattage can handle and then use a standard computer PSU for the MB and other crap.

There is a lot of information out there on mining setups and stuff. The biggest thing to consider is your initial investment and the fluctuations of the price of coins. And the cost of power will slow the amount of time until you get your ROI. You need to see how much speed you can get for the least amount of power and how that translates into an ROI.

It's a terrible time to buy a pc. Not only are pc parts out of stock in most regions- with the ones being in stock usually being sold at inflated prices, but Nvidia's 2000 series GPUs are nearly two years old now, and like you said, 4th gen ryzen, b550, and Nvidia AMPERE (3000 series gpus) are all coming this year- and with a decent performance boost, especially with ray tracing if the leaks are correct- so if youre into that type of thing, you should wait for sure. I would say wait 100% unless you had no other choice or really really want a pc right now.

Hmm, try to lower it, change the mousepad. Uncheck the "Enhanced pointer precision" in mouse options if it's on. If it doesn't help, maybe it's faulty.

Vod reacted to Mateyyy in Gtx 1660 ti, Rx 5700 xt or used Gtx 1080?
That used 1080 is a pretty bad deal in this case, since for just €10 more you can get that 5700XT which is faster and most importantly has warranty. But since you're playing at 1080p, the CPU is more of a factor when it comes to performance in games, compared to higher resolutions. If you can, I would suggest saving up and getting the Ryzen 3600 with the 5700XT, but if you can't afford both, the 3600 with a 1660 Super (same performance as the Ti but cheaper) would also be a great pairing for 1080p. There's no way to know for certain at the moment unfortunately how Cyberpunk 2077 will run on current hardware, but I'd imagine it will be fairly CPU intensive, with its large open world and tons of NPCs everywhere.

Sounds like a good way to lose money... Just make sure your OS is clean and healthy, ensure your system is cool and make sure you're using XMP and that's pretty much all there is to it...

Windows is roughly around 3/4GB download. You'd need a 4.7GB DVD. Why can't you use a USB?

Yeah, you can do this absolutely fine but not with a CD since it only has a maximum capacity of 768mb or something, using a DVD is prefered as it can hold roughly 4.7GB on it I think and hence you will fit a full installation of windows on it. Most people use USB memory stick these days simply because it's easier and not everything has a DVD/CD R+W drive, most people skip this from their build now. However, maybe 10 years ago, using a DVD to install windows was the prefered method.

    Hello!

So I bought a new hp laptop.
It has windows 10 home and it needs to update to the version 1803, but the problem is, I can't pause it.
Whenever I click the "Pause Update" it unchecks almost instantly.

Look at your motherboard specs and see what's the highest it supports.
Being so old (the 760g is ancient), the motherboard may not support 125w TDP processors like FX 8320 or FX 8350, so you may have to stick to 95w TDP processors like FX-8300 or FX-8320e or FX-6300

Then you can look up https://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu_list.php and compare the score of your x4 845 with the newer AM3+ processors.

My advice would be to hit eBay, you can buy a 6 core 3.5 Ghz FX-6300 for less than 50$, some listings are at less than 30$ including shipping ... they're safe buys, just carefully read description to see if the mention pins being broken or not (majority of listings are perfectly fine CPUs without any problems)

    Here's a listing for 50$: LINK

later edit: honestly, the jump in performance going with a am3+ processor will be quite small, maybe 10-20% extra with a good motherboard. That board with the 760g chipset will limit the performance jump quite a bit and you may be losing some of the benefits you have with the msi board ( usb 3 ports, sata 3,potentially higher quality audio on board, better and more stable drivers due to newer chips etc) Not sure it's worth changing over.  Save money and either buy a better video card, or make the jump to a Ryzen 2200g with b350/b450 and DDR4 memory.
