Lord Athetos reacted to Wolta in Gamers Nexus alleges LMG has insufficient ethics and integrity
The last time I posted on the LTT forums was around the time LTT had just released the first GTX 700 series reviews. I really enjoyed your content in those days.

You’re correct that GN has not followed a journalistic etiquette by allowing the party of topic to respond prior to publication of a critical piece, if you weren’t contacted beforehand.

However, it is impossibly difficult to gloss over the ethos behind this statement; the writer of these words has evidence against them, from a source with historically larger ethos through publication accuracy, that their own professional practices lead open holes for inaccuracies and fallacy in their own product.

If you found it disappointing that a piece was produced without adhering to etiquette not employed constantly but rather only intermittently by other outlets than The Associated Press, Ritzau, Reuters and the like, imagine the disappointment of us who’ve followed your channel and supported your team monetarily for well over a decade when dishonest practices are revealed - and the response is “Did we make mistakes? Yeah. But we’re humans.”

Repeated offences in reporting accuracy or professionalism costs most of us mortals our jobs. Not just our internet popularity. They are corrected with stringent plans of improvement and outlining how honest mistakes occurred, and how they will be corrected, with future projects safeguarded against these mistakes.

Linus’ reply is not a plan of action or clarification of future intent. It’s an excuse, alongside self-pointed questions, a classic method of deviation away from critical questions so overused it appears as a joke in a certain children’s movie.

5 years ago, when Xiaomi made a MacBook Pro lookalike, LTT and a few other YouTube channels produced content covering it. I bought it off of those reviews’ presentation, implying they were analyses of a product and the analysis showed it was a good product. It turned out to be an insanely flawed laptop, with easily uncovered issues, many of which I since listed in the comments on those videos, if you spent anything more than 24 hours with it. And I got a response to it.

“Sorry, we just don’t have that amount of time to cover these products so you can’t expect us to do that much.”

I asked back then, and I will ask now 5 years later once again: if covering these products to their exact specification, use case, and the results they deliver in those circumstances is too much work, then why in the world do you brand yourself a reviewer? Why do you talk big game about a “lab” (an insult to anyone having anything to do with actual laboratory science granted the “lab”s flawed results so far…) if you’re not willing to give products and testers the time they need in the first place? Brand yourself as what you are instead - and entertainment influencer - and leave genuine reviews to the organisations that take the time and due diligence to apply scientific standards and proper methodology - and scrutiny, an absolute requirement - to channels that take the extra time to produce this content.

A such source has called out this unacceptable contrast between branding and actual content delivered by LTT as a content source, and the response is now excuses and self-aimed questions and answers so cliché they’re jokes for kids.

This is ignoring blatant long term health issues of speeding your employees to a point where they cannot stand behind their own work. This is well documented and meta analyses on the topic are readily available with overwhelming evidence at the US National Library of Medicine’s website. I would know - I wrote my BA on the damned psych. category and designing interventions for it. It’s horrific long-term and killed one of my parents. Shame on you for this alone.

In conclusion, I regret supporting this company entirely and whole heartedly. I’m sorry your day is awful. I hope your company seriously revises itself.

Also I think not having a big WAN show segment on this is a big error.  This is the value of WAN.  It's your weekly connection with your people.

Own it, accept it, and deal with it live on air.  If you are real, you will know with your merch dashboard.

Personally, I'd bring on Steve from GN and go over it.  Not point by point, but have a friendly discussion.  Talk about the challenges, and what you are doing about it.

Lord Athetos reacted to Sauron in Experimental Youtube "feature" detects and blocks some users of ad blocking browser extensions on Youtube
    Why?
Not my problem. Youtube has used their financial advantage to shut out potential competitors by operating at a loss for years, if now it turns out that that wasn't a sustainable investment then too bad for them. If they want me to pay for the service then they can just paywall the site and then I'll decide whether accessing it is worth my money.
This is a completely arbitrary distinction.
Yes, and if youtube doesn't understand this then I'll just block the video ads. I'd probably have been ok with some banner ads on the side, I still allow them on this forum. Google did this to itself, after all they're probably the largest ad broker in the world (possibly second to facebook? I'm not sure).
Yeah, and you know how we get them to stop? We block the ads. Paying not to see them would just be an incentive for google to make the ads worse.

Having dealt with Broadcom SoC's in my youth with Android devices, I have grown to hate them with every single one of their products. Vmware on the other hand has been just the opposite, smooth sailing all around. I would be upset if this deal goes through and broadcom continues to shit all over the great job vmware has done all over the years.

Lord Athetos reacted to Avocado Diaboli in Are we pirates?
Except it isn't. I have no agreement with any single content creator. YouTube is an open platform that offers me content for free. It implements ads the same way every other website does. My dealings are with YouTube, not with any one content creator on the platform. And I choose to block YouTube's ads.

Honestly, this just seems like Linus once again put his foot in his mouth. Why alienate anyone who would be content to support your business if it meant offsetting ads and sponsor segments by encouraging buying merch as a better alternative? Yeah no, let's make a dumb comparison to a TV show that isn't offered on a free service to begin with that isn't paid for with ads. To pretend like there's an equivalence between a streaming service behind a paywall and blocking ads on YouTube is disingenuous at best.

Honestly, this pretty much ensures that I'll never whitelist your channel from either adblock or sponsorblock. And no, again, my payment for the content isn't ads. I get to watch it for free. Linus is paid by Google for the opportunity to show me ads. He's not paid by me watching the ads. This is such a hilariously wrongheaded way of framing this entire scenario. If a service is free for me to use, I'm the product being sold. That's the long and short of it. And I choose not to be sold. Hence why I block ads everywhere possible. If Linus isn't happy with that arrangement, he's more than welcome to take all his content off YouTube and put it behind his Floatplane paywall. If that's a sustainable business move for him, good for him. I won't mourn his disappearance from YouTube. Every YouTuber is replaceable and there are more than enough people ready to jump into his niche if he were to pack up and leave. But to call it piracy is wrong by every metric imaginable. Words mean things and you don't just get to redefine them to suit your whims.

Can we please get a 4800H desktop equivalent? An actually decent 8 core with an iGPU? It makes such a difference for troubleshooting, and with an MCM structure, they could always turn it off /power-gate whenever nothing is plugged into the display inputs.

I'd pay an additional like 50 dollars for a part like that over the equivalent. And use them in family builds as well.
