Good Yule forum fellows. Ryzen, My 2017 Christmas Computer is now compleat with a Vega 64. So it's Vega, not Polaris and I'm very merry. Bot a Sapphire ref mod w/Samsung mem. Undervolted GCN5 core, 1100 MHz HBM2, it's ca. 10% faster than my Asus 1070 - good 1440p gaming on my Acer ultrawide. Best wishes for 2020.

It's summer solstice and I've just finished Ryzen, My Christmas Computer. Bot an RX 580 8GB fer only 100 Canuck bux moar than intro price a year ago. I wanted an all-AMD processor build. So it's Polaris (not Vega - still way too spendy) and it's Asus cos I'm a fanboi. Out with the 1070 and in with the 580. OC'd to 1500MHz GPU (vs 1380) and 2250 memory (vs 2000). Firestrike and Superposition scores took a hit vs 1070. Firestrike doesn't like the latest Radeon driver Superposition thinks it's a 470/480 My Acer XR342CK freeesink ultrawide plays sooo nice with this RX 580. Lara likes it. 3440x1440 - 65fps of FreeSync™ goodness Bot a couple o' Phanteks Halos RGBs for m'exhaust fans - Wraith Spire cooler motif. Installed the cable extensions too. So Ho-Ho-Ho - that's Ryzen, My all-AMD processor Christmas Computer. Asus Strix RX 580 is a tad heavy (IBM prop)

"Yesss ... sleeved power extension cables in theme colours.") Amazon is sending me a Phanteks kit fer 45 Canuck bux (outrageous! - cudda bot 20 canz o' sudz.) These Phanteks extensions are lawn-guh. But lotsa cable management room in NZXT S340 Elite. I'll report back next week on the installation. Meanwhile, Ryzen spits out Codemasters F1 2016 perfectly to my Acer XR342CK - looks fab. Decent performance with default game detail settings and monitor resolution at 2560x1080 75Hz - very smooth - no stutters or tears. And then I thought ... (Thinks ... "Yesss ... case badges.") From the Microsoft website, made a USB drive with Win10 v.1709 (Fall Creators Update) and installed the OS on Samsung NVMe SSD boot drive. Installed the usual drivers and software. Asus AISuite 3 set the R7-1700 to 3.8 GHz at 1.4 volts (27% over AMD stock 3.0.) MSI Afterburner set the GTX 1070 boost up to 2100 MHz core (39% over Asus stock 1509) and 4200 MHz from stock 4000 GHz mem. CPU (stock HSF!) temps maxing @ 80º C running prime95. Set a CPU fan profile 1500 rpm ramping up to 3000 starting @ 70º C. Wraith Spire fan quiet with other benchmarks; a mite wind-noisy with prime95 burning. Top front 140 mm intake fan plugged into CPU OPT header speeds up with CPU fan – positive pressure inside the case. (No dust infiltration via uninfiltrated – er, unfiltered openings.) Set top and rear 120 mm exhaust fans to 800 rpm. Asus Strix GTX 1070 kicks in the bottom front 140 mm intake fan @ 75º C – MSI Kombustor tested. Benchmarks look good. Let the games begin! Lara looks for yet another tomb to raid at an average of 72 FPS on my BenQ 32" VA display 2560x1440 OC'd to (coincidentally) 72 Hz. Ryzen went together slick, runs perfect, looks fab. I'm pleased.
