  1. Was about to spend the same amount on some CIEMs, what to do now...
  2. Here is my entry Good luck to everyone, it's cool to see so many ideas. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wjR8CYNIIrc
  3. Yes, the other headers are working fine and the kraken pump makes less noise, now that I plugged it into the other CPU_FAN header instead of the case fan header I temporarily used it with yesterday. This means I had to unplug the enthoo luxe fan controller and use the case fan headers instead, but that is not a major problem. I then went on to use prime95 to test my haswell CPU which I now know is not a good idea (although temps did stay reasonable). Thank you all for the help, hopefully I will stop making silly mistakes in the future .
  4. Tried another header and it seems to be working (ish), kept the pc on in bios for a minute or two and temps seemed stable, at 23-25 degrees. The pump however is making a slight ticking sound as the water goes round that it wasn't making before. Would someone be able to explain why the motherboard might be damaged more than the cooler? I presume that I am wrong in thinking of the CPU_FAN header as just an output. Apologies for my lack of knowledge...
  5. Hello all. I recently built my first computer with an x61 and it was all working fine until today. While installing an interior LED strip for my enthoo luxe I decided to change the way the Kraken 3-pin cable was positioned, however when I plugged it back onto the 4-pin cpu-fan header I accidentally used the left-three pins instead of the right three, as indicated by the plastic piece. It was quite dark however and I did not notice my mistake. When powering on the computer I heard a slightly muted pop, there was a flash, and some smoke so I immediately shut down the PC. This mini explosion seemed to have come from the area around the CPU fan header. so after taking I look I realised what I had done wrong, and corrected the mistake. Now however, when I power on the computer I see the CPU temps rising steadily towards 50 degrees and up (when idle) and although the kraken fans work, I am assuming the pump does not. Equally CAM software does not detect pump or fan speeds. The asus Z97-A manual lists the function of each pin as follows: -CPU fan PWM -CPU fan in -CPU fan PWR -GND My mistake was to plug the kraken onto the first three instead of the last three... Is anyone able to explain what happened? and what I should do... this is quite worrying.
  6. ty for the suggestions, the monitor looks really good. The build is very different from my original, but it does show how choosing more budget oriented components can boost performance while removing some of the overkill parts had originally...
  7. ty for the response. The 780 that I could get instead of an i7 and 16gb is very tempting, although getting a better monitor could also be worthwhile. I now have much to think about
  8. Hello, this is one of my first posts here. I have been watching techtips for a while now and browsing the forums every so often, seems like a really cool community. As with many people on this thread, I am building my first computer and would like to make sure I get the right components. 1. Location: UK Budget: About £1200 Retailer: I would prefer to buy all components from Scan to make things a little less complicated. As PcPartPicker was showing slightly out of date prices and did not have all components from Scan I manually edited the list below. Either way the prices work out similarly regardless of retailer so I don't mind having lists with different retailers suggested. Color Scheme: Preferably white and silver. 2. Aim: 1080p Gaming (maybe 1440p if I can afford it) and Photoshop work along with everyday use. CPU: Intel Core i7-4790K 4.0GHz Quad-Core Processor (£251.00 @ Scan.co.uk) CPU Cooler: NZXT Kraken X61 106.1 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler (£110.38 @ Scan.co.uk) Motherboard: Asus Z97-A ATX LGA1150 Motherboard (£106.76 @ Scan.co.uk) Memory: Corsair Vengeance Pro 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR3-2133 Memory (£133.39 @ Scan.co.uk) Storage: Samsung 840 EVO 250GB 2.5" Solid State Drive (£98.21 @ Scan.co.uk) Storage: Western Digital Caviar Green 1TB 3.5" 5400RPM Internal Hard Drive (£40.78 @ Scan.co.uk) Storage: Western Digital BLACK SERIES 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive (£55.98 @ Scan.co.uk) Video Card: EVGA GeForce GTX 750 Ti 2GB FTW ACX Video Card (£102.75 @ Scan.co.uk) Case: Phanteks Enthoo Luxe ATX Full Tower Case (£119.53 @ Scan.co.uk) Power Supply: Corsair RM 650W 80+ Gold Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply (£79.98 @ Scan.co.uk) Optical Drive: Samsung SH-224DB/RSBS DVD/CD Writer (£13.78 @ Scan.co.uk) Operating System: Microsoft Windows 8.1 (OEM) (64-bit) (£69.37 @ Scan.co.uk) Total: £1233.35 (with the addition of a multi-card reader £11) Generated by PCPartPicker 2014-09-01 09:42 BST+0100 and edited by poster for prices from Scan http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/p/r7bWJx Monitor: (not to be included in price) I am still unsure what monitor to buy, I should have a budget of £350 ish. I will perhaps post this on the monitors section but what are the generally agreed minimum specs for fps gaming (refresh rate and response etc)? or can anyone recommend a good 1080p or 1440p monitor at the right price? Peripherals: (not to be included in price) Keyboard: waiting for k70 RGB... Mouse: Already have a logitech g600 Headset: Already have Astro a40 headset Here is some of the reasoning for various parts: i7 instead of i5 would leave more money for a graphics card, however I think a 750ti is enough for 1080p. As GTX 800/900 series seem not too far off, I intend upgrade later, and i think an i7 should still be useful? x61 Kraken seems to be the best performing all-in-one liquid cooler and it has white fans, so why not. Mobo: z97-A seemed like a pretty standard choice. WD green is for long term photo storage. Enthoo Luxe: someone mentioned this on these forums and it seems like a pretty good case. I was hesitating to get a h440 instead, but I prefer the looks of the Luxe. Thank you for reading, and for any suggestions, also... does anyone know how to change a forum username?
  9. Very cool phone, its nice to see that sony have adressed the Z1 issues, and the skin from dbrand seems well made.

Thanks Helping for an awesomely detailed response, that certainly cleared up a few things I was slightly confused about, and might just have saved me $300 . It's totally crazy that so many supposedly "great music personalities/celebrities etc" would recommend this however I am highly convinced by your response, which matches up with all of the other opinions here. And good luck with that test

So are some of you saying that this product is quite pointless, that "The Audio Board's Frequently Asked Questions" page is wrong in recommending FLACS, and also that all the people in the campaign video are hearing a "placebo" difference? No aggressive argument intended, just curious...

I was just wondering how many of you might have come across this kickstarter campaign: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1003614822/ponomusic-where-your-soul-rediscovers-music?ref=discovery I found it quite interesting, it will basically be a new mp3/ipod which is designed to play music at maximum quality (FLAC/lossless) and accompany a new online store, ponomusic, where said music will be purchased. Obviously lossless audio is already available, but the idea here I think is to create a large, simple, online store and an easy way of listening to the music via portable device. The campaign has been going for just under 24 hours (I think (?)) and has already doubled it's stretch goal, it is currently the most popular project on Kickstarter and is likely to raise a huge amount more within the next month. So what are your opinions on this, and is it worth $300? Thanks
  13. I'm not really sure, but I doubt they were very far at all . After a bit of quick research it seems that the planned release would be Q2/Q3 2015 alongside the release of Star Wars Episode VII.
