  1. Well, I just double checked what I said. I can't find a site that reviewed both the pure power 11 and the formula gold, which is unfortunate. It seems like they are in the same efficiency category. It doesn't make much of a difference, but I like to optimize I also have a trauma from my old oversized 800w psu in my i7 920 rig that drew 120w at idle.
  2. Thanks for the suggestion! Sadly, the pure power 11's idle efficiency seems to be lower then the formula's
  3. Dear Community, I'm looking for a good psu with those criteria: - excellent 50w load efficiency (not tested by many reviewers unfortunately, I don't care much for 80+ ratings as my pc idles 95% of the time) - quiet operation, semi passive operation is very desirable for lower dust maintenance - below 80€ price on geizhals.de - 450w should be sufficient So far, the bitfenix formula gold 450 was my go-to psu. But the tier list say there are issues with gpu transients. Do you have better alternatives? Thanks in advance!
  4. I think I have a good video suggestion for LTT: Just like you compared m.2 to sata ssds you could compare different monitor resolutions. Setup a 27" 1080p vs a 27" 4k monitor with the same display technology (IPS/VA, doesn't really matter). Run downsampled 2440 on the 1080p monitor and upsampled 2440 on the 4k one. Ask the staff which one looks better, only looking at a comfortable viewing distance (1 meter or something). My bet: 1080p looks better, especially to those sensitive to temporal aliasing :)
  5. Dear Community, I finally took the jump and got into windows 10. So far it has been a decent experience, many thanks to openshell! One thing that is kind of unwieldy though is the firewall. I started configuring it securely (blocking all outbound traffic) but I can't find reliable information on what processes require outbound access for all the security features to work. There are a bazillion sites which explain how to use the fw, but I used it with win 7 for years now. What I really need is info on the right exe files to allow through. Thanks in advance for any input on that matter! Regards, Chief
  6. Dear Community, I came here after watching the "10 ways Windows is just better" video promoted the support on these forums. My current operating system is still Windows 7, but I'd like to switch to 10 for dx12 and hdr support in the near future. To be able to do that, I got a few questions: 1. Is it possible to disable windows talking to microsoft? It would be best if there was something like Se7en Lite to gut the functionality from the OS entirely. Is there a group who did this and verified it's working by sniffing the network? 2. Is it possible to disable windows update? Please see the spoiler before you start a debate about this. 3. Under windows 7 it is possible to shift the windows firewall into group policy, disabling access for programs. This made the windows 7 firewall actually quite secure. Can I do the same in windows 10? 4. Is it possible to disable uac and the likes (preferably without disabling mse)? 5. Is it possibe to disable the windows search indexer? I'm not sure I'm remembering all the annoying things needed to be changed in windows 7 to make it perfect. There are a lot of little registry tweaks in my postinstall scripts and it's been a long time since they where set up. Thanks in advance!
  7. Well, I did a quite extensive google search. Wherever I turned, nobody had any real experience with GPU HDMI sound out and refresh rate stuff like freesync, fastsync or custom refresh rates. The reason seems to be that multi monitor setups do not support those modes and as far as I know, you can only run your receiver in mutli monitor settings. Doesn't matter which team your on. Maybe you have some input on the matter? I hoped for a 5€ USB solution, or maybe a 20€ pci-e solution
  8. True double buffer vsync and freesync do not work. I suspect custom refresh rates won't work either.
  9. Dear LTT, is there a device for the PC that outputs HDMI sound but isn't a GPU? GPU HDMI sound out is refresh rate hell USB or pci-e would be best I think. The device should be able to bitstream sound, HDMI-CEC would be a nice bonus. Any hardware vendor did something like this yet? Thanks in advance for input!
  10. Sadly, it‘s not that trivial. The HDMI to receiver also transmits image data. You have to set display settings to duplacate the image to be able to choose the receiver as primary audio out. When I do that, I cannot change monitor refresh rates (not even ones in the HDMI standard). The other option is extending the display. You can set individual monitor settings that way but it has the destinct disadvantage that the mouse can move off the screen. I‘m not sure the second option will work once I get my custom monitor board to run at 96 Hz. And maybe my system will draw more power (I saw that some GPUs do not idle properly when in multi monitor mode).
  11. My mind slipped when writing the opening post. I meant to say GPU and wrote VGA, sorry. The jack is no option because I want to run my digital receiver for surround sound and better sound quality and stuff. I know you can do HDMI sound via GPU. But that is actually what I would like to circumvent. Setting up HDMI sound via GPU is mighty annoying, especially if you want to do custom or variable refresh rates. As far as I know some GPUs also eat more power when on multi monitor settings. There really is no "sound only" setting for this.
  12. Dear Community, because managing sound output via GPU* is such a pain (there is no "sound only" kind of option) with variable/custom refresh rates: Is there a PCI-e "sound card" that does nothing but allow for a separate HDMI audio out? No digital to analogue converter, just a cheap HDMI throughput? Thanks in advance! *[edit] my mind slipped, I meant to say GPU and wrote VGA
  13. Oh, thank you! After doing some google search, it really seems to be an issue with romer g switches. I found another example highlighting the problem even better: Do you think I can get rid of the problem entirely if I lube the switches correctly?
  14. I have used my fair share of cherry keyboards. Space and Enter usually sound different. But none of them had a ping sound like this. It's like every power supply producing a different fan sound. You might like it or not. But Coil Whine is something different entirely and very annoying to many people. After looking at more keyboards today, it seems there are quite some 'high end' 'gaming' keyboards having issues with ping. Sadly, there is not really an alternative product that I know of. But thank you very much for your in depth advice. Is there a tutorial on how to do that with Romer-G switches? After watching some YouTube videos it might be the space bar/enter stabilisers. But from the sound of it I think it is more likely that the whole back plate reverberates. Maybe finding out where the noise actually comes from and solving the issue might be my only option. I'm kind of reluctant to do that though, as I think a keyboard in the price range of the G613 shouldn't have the issue in the first place.
  15. If you hear enough very loud music on your in-ears, maybe. But maybe it compounds the issue because you know how a cherry keyboard sounds like and you have to do actual work on your keyboard. It's mostly space and enter. I already RMAed it, the second one had the same issue. That's why I ask here if it's just that particular batch or if the whole product line is affected. I usually use the keyboard on my lap because I have a couch setup. So a mat is not really an option. I can hear the sound when I knock on the keyboard. It is louder when I press space while typing though.
