I had a Pentium 4 rig right up to the end of 2012.. And I still play Diablo II..

Ah yes, I have a Pentium 1 with MMX CPU somewhere. Don't wanna find it though.. Does my Sharp PC count?

We have loads of old P4 stuff in our basement. We got rid of our P2 and P3 crap a couple years ago.

You guys are posting hardware that isn't really retro.. So if it counts I have a Geforce 8800GT 320MB card that I revived, modified, and put into my system. (I revived a second 8800GT and gave it back to my dad too.)

In stock form with new thermal paste it was running 230F under a benchmark. After I did this and stuck a fan on there it was running 150F under same conditions. But to have it fit in the bottom slot I had to take the fan off otherwise I wouldn't be able to have my ethernet card in there which I need since the onboard is stuck in sleep mode forever.

Ugh. I bought a 650ti to replace my 7750. I feel so stupid now.

Also by that logic the GMA 3150 in one of my netbooks is better than the NVS 160m in my laptop.

The posts on here about the crap school computers make me feel good about the stuff we have at school. Most of them are Core 2 Duo HP computers with 1280x1024 screens running Windows 7. They aren't that slow and they all have Chrome preinstalled. (Though a lot of kids still use IE..)

For some reason they still have a few of the old HP P4 computers around the school. (Running Windows 7 like the rest instead of XP which they all used to have.)

Yeah, with our old router the WiFi (And sometimes ethernet) connection would drop every time my brother played Xbox with his idiot friends (He is unable to grasp the fact that he does not need to shout every word with the microphone in front of his mouth.) so the router would need to be power cycled for it to work for everyone. If you even went near it he would jump up and attack me. My solution? Either go in the basement and flick the switch on the breaker for the family room or just go and unplug it then deal with him. But all that is over since I got my dad a good Asus router for his birthday. (RTN66U or something like that.)

I hate Intel graphics with a passion. As of right now, (Since I broke my netbook) I can proudly say that none of my devices have Intel powering the graphics in them.

Only one of the computer rooms at my school uses those 1080p Dell screens. They are really nice, especially compared to the 1280x1024 HP screens the rest of the computers use. Especially since they use DVI and not VGA.

My old computer had a couple IDE HDDs and every once in a while it would lose connection so I would kick the case and usually that worked. Sometimes I had to open it up and reseat the cable.

Also on my old laptop, before I replaced the motherboard, the CPU base had a hairline crack in it so until it broke completely it wouldn't recognize the CPU when I hit the power button so I had to smack the keyboard to get it to fully power on and it worked fine after that. (Apart from the other issues which were also fixed with a new motherboard.) Before I replaced the motherboard I tried to make it work by pressing down on the heatsink to see if that made a connection. I broke the CPU die and had to shell out $11 for a used one that was .2GHz slower.

There's this one computer I use in my production engineering class (AKA woodshop) that I use purely for Halo CE with the other kids at the beginning of classes which has a weird pagefile issue, Chrome constantly crashes for whatever reason, and a lollipop stick shoved sideways into the air intake. Whenever we actually have to do computer work in that class I try to get on another computer. (That one is in the corner away from the teachers eyes. He doesn't like us playing Halo.)

Another time in the library I found a totally smashed Palm phone inside the pushed in floppy bay cover. Also really annoying when they draw/scratch on the screen and break off one side of the keyboard raiser thingies. I must say, that's one advantage to a Mac; Less holes for kids to stick shit in.

I feel bad for you guys. My dad knows about as much as I do about computers, if not more. (I learned a lot from him when I was younger.) My school started tech education in kindergarten or first grade. (I forget which.) So most of the people in my school have no problems with using a computer. (Most of the time anyway.)

Most of the computers in my school are low profile Compaqs with 1280x1024 screens that tilt every way. (You can put them sideways and rotate the screen which is nice for web browsing.) Some of them are a bit odd though. The computer I use in my woodshop class to play Halo CE with the other kids while the teacher talks at the beginning of class gives me a pagefile error every time I log on and Chrome crashes a while after I start it every time. (Halo works fine which is really all I use it for.) A lot of the computers have like pencil marks all over the screen or broken disk drives or pushed in covers for where the floppy drive would go and stuff like that.

We have this old D-link router in our family room (Not the right hardware revision for DD-WRT) and it's pretty old. It's a decent router apart from the fact that my tablet doesn't get a good signal from half of my room and whenever my brother uses the Xbox to play Black Ops (He screeches like a 4 year old whenever he dies too..) the router breaks for everyone else and if I try to restart it he tries to punch me and push me away and calls me selfish for trying to restart it..

I explained cryptocurrency and mining to my brother. He just said "So you get free money?"

Not that dumb, but I had to explain that it uses electrons and bits of internet.

    You mean the platters?

Since he already opened them he might as well open them up again to get the neodymium magnets to play with.

MSI tech support seems like they barely know english. They didn't help me at all when I tried contacting them about my motherboard, just said some crap and after that the tech support page wouldn't load.

I remember the production cost for the iPhone 4 when it was being made was about 50 bucks. Dunno about the new ones, but Apple way overcharges for their crap because they can.

I was talking to my little brother (2 years younger) about speakers and how you need an amp and you can't just plug a giant speaker into a Shuffle. (I recently finished a school project where we made an amp from a kit and put it into an old speaker) I asked if he knew how to solder. He said yes.. Apparently he thought he knew what he was doing from watching our dad. I asked him to explain how to solder. "You plug it in and wait 15 minutes. Then you take the stuff from the can [solder rosin/flux] and put it onto what you want to solder. Then you put the iron on it." He never mentioned solder wire. He told me that he soldered a little speaker years ago.

My 8 year old AIO was showing its age, not being able to cool my shiny (literally, it's lapped) not at all obsolete FX 8320 at 4.2GHz anymore. So I sliced it open and shoved in the used transmission cooler from when my Volvo had an automatic. Used distilled water with a splash of coolant and a dash of water wetter. Spent 30 minutes getting all the bubbles out.

The result is a max of 50c under full load, even better than that time I tried liquid metal. I know it's capable of 5.2ghz stable with ridiculous voltage but I'm gonna aim for 4.8.
