Just the obvious really, underclock it, reduce the power limit, see if if it can run.  But I'd be tempted to suspect there is at least a fault with the power delivery, maybe capacitor problems, assuming the chip or RAM isn't plain trashed.

What motherboard did you have before. If it wasn't an X570, it might be the chipset and bios drivers that are causing this problem?

Audacity is my current pick. Though if you want to work more with audio files, got recommendation for paid software from a friend. Called GoldWave, price for lifetime license is some $45.

In case anyone finds this in the future:

It mysteriously went away. I believe it had something to do with power - as the sound system was plugged into the same powerstrip as my PC and monitor, and I'm not sure the powerstrip liked that too well. I say this because I rearranged my room and plugged them into a lone socket in the wall and now I can blast these babies like I was before.

However.. very confused how this only started happening recently. Like, it's always been plugged into that powerstrip, nothing changed with my PC, and one day it just decided to be distorted.

Links to replacement drivers would be appreciated in case the satellites blow and I need some replacements

the 3800x is likely of a higher bin, so it may overclock better. But overall $20 is probably the most I'd spend on that.

If the $20 can go into another computer part to make it a little better, go for the 3700x, the 3800x really isn't noticeably better, they're almost the same dang CPU, just one with a little nicer label.

If the $20 doesn't make sense to spend on another component, then ask yourself this:  Would you derive more satisfaction from the fancier label on your CPU or from going out and having a steak dinner with the money?

So I'm assuming you would want audio coming from the TV/monitor?

I believe most modern GPUs have their own on-board sound, so I don't see why not. But I can see audio input becoming another challenge. You can go ahead and try it (if you have a board with broken sound or something) and see if it works that way.

I say OP should wait, because we won't know until an official announcement or release whether or not there will be 120Hz or 144Hz support for consoles, especially because some TVs have refreshrates of 120Hz (although mostly a marketing gimmick, some may have true 120Hz)

toobladink got a reaction from wasab in Why US college and university are so expensive?
Your interest in computer science puts you in a very unique position that you cannot get with other jobs. With most engineering jobs, employers love a certification, and sometimes it's literally required; other jobs require schooling or strong connections, if you are looking at going into marketing or some sort of management job. 99% of the time, those jobs require schooling.

However, with computer science, all the resources you need are out there, and are usually free. Stackoverflow is arguably one of the most powerful websites for any programmer.

Start small - watch some youtube videos on basic programming principals and tutorials. C++, python, or java are widely used languages to learn, and then perhaps expand to C#, php, HTML, or whatever you'd like, just so you can get a little extra experience. Start by making a game of battleship in the console. Allow a user to randomly place their ships across the board, and work your way up to developing a game with some sort of graphics, a website, or some sort of program that does something useful for you. Show these projects - build a github, put these on your resume, have your resume be hosted on a website you made yourself, etc.

If you're unsure about your genuine interest in programming (many people say they are, but get scared), I suggest watching computerphile videos on youtube. If you can watch 100 of those in like a month, I'd say it's definitely the field for you.

    Personal note:
With better drivers in the future and Undervolting we should be able to get some nice boost from the RX 5700 series. A bit like the Vega 56, which started low and ended high. Getting a partner RX should make this even more appealing as cooling will be exponentially better.
