I got a good deal on the 6s and my carrier doesn't have much aside from Apple so a Nokia phone isn't an option (they have maybe 6 or 7 android phones total). I do have a USB 3.1 type A and a usb c port as well on my motherboard but you're correct that the 6s doesn't have fast charging.

I'll be getting an iPhone 6s soon and intend to charge it at my computer a lot (using an amazon basics lighting to usb cable) and am wondering if this will be as fast as the charger that comes with it. If I remember correctly the amperage of the stock charger is 1.0 amp and I believe usb 3.0 can deliver a maximum of 0.9 amps but in practice this may not make much of a difference in charging speed. Can anyone with experience confirm or deny this?

"intro" not rendering properly
Mr Technician replied to K86twCuCgDzvF2yHrqKq8FAJNW's topic in Troubleshooting
I didn't watch the video (since it was an attachment, I'd recommend youtube instead) but are you trying to render a transparent background? This isn't possible with H.264 since it does not support alpha. Have you tried exporting to a .png sequence or a .avi file? -
Just ordered one in space grey! Unfortunately it's on back order for almost a month.

Your computer is sending requests to your router which then forwards them to the DNS server specified above. Is it possible your router has multiple places to specify DNS servers? Mine lets me set it under both my DHCP settings and the WAN settings. Off the top of my head, the DHCP one will give those addresses directly to your computer when it requests them and the WAN section will set the addresses the router uses when it receives a request DNS request. Yep! Those are just my DNS servers so it's fine if yours are different. My setup is a bit confusing because I run my own DNS server on a raspberry pi.

router Using A Ethernet Router on DSL Connection
Mr Technician replied to SpicySauceRat's topic in Networking
You should be able to put your current modem/router into bridge mode and your new router should work fine. -
The good thing is I'm a bit of a photographer so I have a dedicated camera for my photography needs.

The small screen on the SE has turned me away for sure. Of course the 6s isn't the best but I'm not looking for the best either for my uses. Is a new version of iOS bound to help performance that much?

To my knowledge that prepaid card is usable for one's monthly internet fee and as money is fungible it comes close to a true cash back. I am aware that the deal only applies to iPhones hence my interest in them, if I could get $200 back on some of their cheaper phones it would be a different story. Once all is said and done with the prepaid card (after the stupid 16 week waiting period) a 6s is only $70-100 more than the cheap android phones offered.

Here's the list: https://www.xfinity.com/mobile/shop?tab=devices&page=1

I'm not inclined to go for the older version if possible, but more storage is not an option regardless: https://www.xfinity.com/mobile/shop/device/iphone-6s-apple?colorName=Space Gray

I'm definitely going for cheaper. I'm hoping 32gb storage would be enough, but I've never had a phone so I don't know how much space I'd use. I wasn't sure about the case since the aluminum body is so pretty but at the very least I'd get a glass screen protector.

I've been considering getting a 32gb iPhone 6s as my carrier (xfinity mobile, their selection is awful but it's the carrier my parents use and as I'm living at home it makes little sense to find a different one) is offering a $200 back deal currently. The 6s 128gb isn't even listed anymore and I doubt I need the extra storage. My research indicates that the iPhone 6s still runs remarkably well almost 3 years after its release and it retains a physical home button and a headphone jack, both of which are important to me. I also doubt I need the extra performance of an iPhone 7 or 8 as I intend to perform only light tasks and I abhor mobile games. However, I could also potentially wait for an alternate better offer. Can anyone with first hand experience with a 6s or more knowledge of iPhones in general give me some advice here?

I agree that that is a misconception but that is not what I meant with my statement. I do realize that a graphics card and cpu can perform at their best say in games and in video encoding, respectively, with an hdd. What I mean by an hdd seriously limiting performance is mainly the long boot and load times where the cpu will be forced to wait for the slow drive to serve data. That's the type of "holding back" I was referring to, not that an hdd completely prevents other powerful components from running at their fullest.
-
It looks good overall but you definitely want an ssd. A hard drive will seriously limit the potential of the processor and graphics card.

Running 2 displays in windows would be trivial for a 1060. Even 4 displays wouldn't be an issue.
-
I'm not sure that's possible. One URL will lead to its own content unless that content itself is a redirect to another site. Are you referring to your own website/code?

I highly recommend the Blue Yeti. Even the Blue Snowball isn't bad.

HP DL380 G7 Rebuild or HDD Shelf
Mr Technician replied to Mr Technician's topic in Servers, NAS, and Home Lab
Hmm you're right about that case being ATX. Anyway I neglected to mention that I have another Dell 1U server with 4 hotswap 3.5 inch bays, so I guess it could technically be used just as a drive bay.- 5 replies

HP DL380 G7 Rebuild or HDD Shelf
Mr Technician replied to Mr Technician's topic in Servers, NAS, and Home Lab
I was looking at something like this, not an ATX case: https://www.amazon.com/Rosewill-Rackmount-Computer-Pre-Installed-RSV-R4000/dp/B0091IZ1ZG/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1527731201&sr=8-3&keywords=server%2Bcase&th=1- 5 replies

I'm considering either rebuilding my HP server in a different case to allow me to use 3.5 inch drives, but I doubt the hardware will fit in a non oem case, but I'm still throwing this out there if anyone knows of a case compatible with this hardware. This leaves me with the option of buying an hdd shelf (or just putting the drives on top of the case, what could go wrong? ). Due to the cost of the hard drives I'd like to keep the cost of the shelf down. All I'm looking for is SAS compatibility (I'll be using SATA drives) and at least 4 bays, but I can't find much of anything on Amazon. Any thoughts on this or a better solution for a NAS?

Open hardware monitor or hwinfo64 should work for monitoring PC temps.
