Being able to put a Ryzen 7 5800X3D onto an old B350 motherboard that used to run a Ryzen 5 1600 is an absolutely insane upgrade option, even when it was $450 at launch. The performance gains are ludicrous ; +100% is totally normal.

What are you really giving up? PCIe 4.0? Multi-gigabit LAN? More, faster M.2 slots? Sure, those are all nice-to-have, but for most folks, there isn't a tangible benefit - especially if your use-case is gaming.

You can argue that in the use case of game development, that something there could be useful, but even then, it's iffy. For very large builds, a PCIe 4.0 NVMe drive could potentially help, but realistically, it won't be a primary performance limiter. Multi-gigabit LAN, if you need to move assets between computers a lot, can be added with an expansion card. And more M.2 slots, while nice, again aren't going to be make-or-break.

And even if some killer new feature comes out in the future on motherboards, you can always upgrade then. Having a CPU upgrade path gives you the flexibility to choose whether a full platform upgrade is worth it or not.

Will likely be going for 64gb of ram since black friday is soon and did consider the 4080 but pricing is just too steep :9.... Don't think dlss or ray tracing will be used at all for any games over the next few years for me and will probs make some assets but not hyper detailed so no real need of an nvidia card xD.

    Thanks for the help 😄

Best idea is to search the parts individually on ebay and look at recently sold, gather an average and work out the total from there. Also could be a good idea to sell them on somewhere such as Facebook market place since you may be able to get a little more for them 😄

eBay but the only part really worth anything is MAYBE the PSU, if it's a proprietary model then someone else who has one could need it as a replacement. The processor and RAM are only worth selling if you want to spend a bunch of time earning $10.

Unfortunately from what I can tell all of Gigabyte's b450 and x470 mobos don't support Q-flash (Gigabyte's version of CPU-less bios updating) so I'm afraid you would have to update the bios with the 2700x installed. You could possibly rent a loaner CPU from AMD which is something they used to do a while back in order to let people update their bios, though I'm not certain if that service still exists - https://www.amd.com/en/support/kb/faq/pa-100

One other thing I will mention is to make sure your motherboard revision is the right one; either check the box if you still have it or check the mobo for the rev number having been silk screened on (likely the very top or bottom). Once you know which one make sure you install the bios from the correct mobo revisions support page to avoid any potential issues 😄

If you need any more help just msg, also apologies for the delayed response xD

No problem xD. I am afraid you will have to update in steps, looks like a fair few of them 😞 (should have mentioned that xD) make sure you know which bios you currently are on (I suspect F2) and you will need to update to F61 using these instructions https://www.gigabyte.com/Motherboard/X470-AORUS-GAMING-5-WIFI-rev-10/support#support-dl-bios😄

There won't be a big WAN Show segment about this or anything. Most of what I have to say, I've already said, and I've done so privately.

To Steve, I expressed my disappointment that he didn't go through proper journalistic practices in creating this piece. He has my email and number (along with numerous other members of our team) and could have asked me for context that may have proven to be valuable (like the fact that we didn't 'sell' the monoblock, but rather auctioned it for charity due to a miscommunication... AND the fact that while we haven't sent payment yet, we have already agreed to compensate Billet Labs for the cost of their prototype). There are other issues, but I've told him that I won't be drawn into a public sniping match over this and that I'll be continuing to move forward in good faith as part of 'Team Media'. When/if he's ready to do so again I'll be ready.

To my team (and my CEO's team, but realistically I was at the helm for all of these errors, so I need to own it), I stressed the importance of diligence in our work because there are so many eyes on us. We are going through some growing pains - we've been very public about them in the interest of transparency - and it's clear we have some work to do on internal processes and communication. We have already been doing a lot of work internally to clean up our processes, but these things take time. Rome wasn't built in a day, but that's no excuse for sloppiness.

Now, for my community, all I can say is the same things I always say. We know that we're not perfect. We wear our imperfection on our sleeves in the interest of ensuring that we stay accountable to you. But it's sad and unfortunate when this transparency gets warped into a bad thing. The Labs team is hard at work hard creating processes and tools to generate data that will benefit all consumers - a work in progress that is very much not done and that we've communicated needs to be treated as such. Do we have notes under some videos? Yes. Is it because we are striving for transparency/improvement? Yeah... What we're doing hasn't been in many years, if ever.. and we would make a much larger correction if the circumstances merited it. Listing the wrong amount of cache on a table for a CPU review is sloppy, but given that our conclusions are drawn based on our testing, not the spec sheet, it doesn't materially change the recommendation. That doesn't mean these things don't matter. We've set KPIs for our writing/labs team around accuracy, and we are continually installing new checks and balances to ensure that things continue to get better. If you haven't seen the improvement, frankly I wonder if you're really looking for it... The thoroughness that we managed on our last handful of GPU videos is getting really incredible given the limited time we have for these embargoes. I'm REALLY excited about what the future will hold.

With all of that said, I still disagree that the Billet Labs video (not the situation with the return, which I've already addressed above) is an 'accuracy' issue. It's more like I just read the room wrong. We COULD have re-tested it with perfect accuracy, but to do so PROPERLY - accounting for which cases it could be installed in (none) and which radiators it would be plumbed with (again... mystery) would have been impossible... and also didn't affect the conclusion of the video... OR SO I THOUGHT...

I wanted to evaluate it as a product, and as a product, IF it could manage to compete with the temperatures of the highest end blocks on the planet, it still wouldn't make sense to buy... so from my point of view, re-testing it and finding out that yes, it did in fact run cooler made no difference to the conclusion, so it didn't really make a difference.

Adam and I were talking about this today. He advocated for re-testing it regardless of how non-viable it was as a product at the time and I think he expressed really well today why it mattered. It was like making a video about a supercar. It doesn't mater if no one watching will buy it. They just wanna see it rip.  I missed that, but it wasn't because I didn't care about the consumer.. it was because I was so focused on how this product impacted a potential buyer. Either way, clearly my bad, but my intention was never to harm Billet Labs. I specifically called out their incredible machining skills because I wanted to see them create something with a viable market for it and was hoping others would appreciate the fineness of the craftsmanship even if the product was impractical. I still hope they move forward building something else because they obviously have talent and I've watched countless niche water cooling vendors come and go. It's an astonishingly unforgiving market.

Either way, I'm sorry I got the community's priorities mixed-up on this one, and that we didn't show the Billet in the best light. Our intention wasn't to hurt anyone. We wanted no one to buy it (because it's an egregious waste of money no matter what temps it runs at) and we wanted Billet to make something marketable (so they can, y'know, eat).

With all of this in mind, it saddens me how quickly the pitchforks were raised over this. It also comes across a touch hypocritical when some basic due diligence could have helped clarify much of it. I have a LONG history of meeting issues head on and I've never been afraid to answer questions, which lands me in hot water regularly, but helps keep me in tune with my peers and with the community. The only reason I can think of not to ask me is because my honest response might be inconvenient.

We can test that... with this post. Will the "It was a mistake (a bad one, but a mistake) and they're taking care of it" reality manage to have the same reach? Let's see if anyone actually wants to know what happened. I hope so, but it's been disheartening seeing how many people were willing to jump on us here. Believe it or not, I'm a real person and so is the rest of my team. We are trying our best, and if what we were doing was easy, everyone would do it. Today sucks.

You need to use a data capable cable and make sure you have the data access feature turned on in the phone settings. I don't remember where or what it's called specifically.  Another way to do it would be to install Google Photos on both the phone and computer, you can then sync the photos and videos you want to the GP app on your phone with a Gmail account, and when you log into it on the PC it will have the same photos and videos and you can save them to the computer.

with pwm fans you can pull power from the psu to by pass any mb header limit but heard pwm gets weaker the more fans on it so keep it under 10 fans per header...

there was talks of ways of re boosting the pwm signal but idk what they were talking about.

if you want it controlled by the gpu then its a good way to do it there or other controllers that have better options thow for just pwm but if you have corsair i would go with corsair.

CriSis_ reacted to LogicalDrm in Legit ebay listing? Corsair commander pro
Well, you actually have enough headers. Your board has 6 headers and each can easily power 3 fans without extra power. You would just need splitters and choosing which fans are controlled together. Usually this is less of issue since there is natural grouping by placements. Only thing to note is CPU and CPU_OPT headers sharing controller chip.

As for controllers, I'm bit out. But since you are already in Corsair ecosystem, the Commander Pro and its newer revisions are still sold new. This in case this eBay listing turns out to be bad.

I just bought a bunch more QL fans from corsair on prime day (£59.99 a pack) to finish my build (already had 3 ql 120mm) and help it stay cool a little easier in the heatwave we have atm :9. Since I would be running 9 fans (7 x 120mm, 2 x 140mm) I figured the easiest way for me to maintain control over the speed would be to buy the commander pro since my board only has so many pwm headers (b550-e with cpu fan taken by nhd15) and can only change the fan curve based off of cpu temps . This was the plan I had come up with but im wondering if it's the best idea or if there are any other options

I know the artic coolers seems to have quite the reputation as being reliable and cool https://www.scan.co.uk/products/arctic-liquid-freezer-ii-240-240mm-all-in-one-hydro-cpu-cooler-2x120mm-pwm-fan-aluminium-copper?gclid=Cj0KCQjwidSWBhDdARIsAIoTVb12jMgltF2gHVZTP6pwojWzQ1ha0DX5h_Sr_q__yYENXg49WbigXmkaAgSYEALw_wcB. As for ek and lian li when I was looking for a 280mm aio for my cooler I found that both seem to have pump problems often though I have not used any so this is just based on what I've heard.

outside of a couple coolers that had some fucked up issues where the liquid turned to goo?  (Thanks for the reporting, GN!)  I haven't heard much about any single AIO having terrible failure rates.

Not exactly a cheap cooler, but kind of badass. Doesn't need both fans so you can be under 150mm

If money is no object some of InWin's signature line of cases look amazing and could easily been viewed as an art piece.

For a reasonably priced case that has good overall hardware support and airflow look no further than the Fractal meshify 2 compact or if you don't mind a slightly overused (but for good reason) case that uses sfx / sfx l psus the lian li o11 dynamic mini (supports atx and even an nhd15). Also have a look at some of Lian Li's other variations of the case such as the o11 dynamic evo and the o11 dynamic mini air 😄 (not sure about psu size etc so you'll have to read the specs)

Another interesting choice could be the corsair 570x crystal in white (all glass case) which, while is an older case, still has good hardware support and upgrades for the front IO so it keeps up with modern standards. You could also consider the tower case by Thermaltake which kind of looks like an arcade machine but, it is unique xD
