This is why I don't buy PC parts internationally.  Apart form having awesome cosumer protections in Australia, the premium I pay here keeps at least one more job here and gives me a solid place to return to.

Why would I buy a video card now when I could buy a new console next year for a similar price, similar performance AND with ray tracing.
How bad of a joke will it be when your USD$500 GPU can't do the eye candy that a USD$500 console can?
Once ray tracing hits consoles, it will go mainstream and the console makers will be pushing it in games, I can guarantee it.
 

Tell me about it. I still use my 5 year old Sapphire R9 290 vapor-x. It's only 20% slower than a GTX 1060. Things have really slowed down in the midrange, while the high end moves out of reach of us. I see more and more posts like yours in various forums and comments sections.
 
Thing is that as Nvidia and AMD make PC gaming unattractive... AMD is going to not get hit, because they get the business anyway whether people shift to consoles, or shift to stadia, and now it looks like they are even selling RDNA designs to mobile. But longterm Nvidia is really shooting themselves in the foot with this strategy by making PC gaming look so bad.

If we're going here, can I argue the RX 5700's price is a stupid ridiculous increase from AMD's previous level 7 SKUs?

Well, corporal punishment is never  necessary. It's just a lazy way of discipline. What are you going to do when your child is too old to hit and can smash your face instead?
Maybe it's just me and my upbringing, but I never see hitting a kid as necessary.
I would only call the cops if the child is being put under clear danger of harm and abuse. Other than that, I just think parents are being lazy/ignorant.
 
 

Shortly after the Diablo Immortal fiasco I actually uninstalled all my modern Blizzard games and pretty much gave up on the company. 
My reaction wasn't from anger, more of a face palm reaction. I just have no faith that this company will deliver games that the fans actually want to see.

But everyone just expects to growth into infinity. Every god damn company. Because making 500 million a year is not enough, next year it has to be 650 million. And next 700. And 750... somehow. What's more ironic, the leadership just expects magic to happen, but they pretty much always ignore feedback from the actual workers. They literally want a cake and eat it too. And they are too far up their rear to realize it. Instead of firing people, they should ask what they could do to improve their income. But we know how that goes. They always have unrealistic expectations and then refuse to listen to feedback. Basically every single company or corporation in existence.

You know, I've always bought exclusively AMD because they gave me better value. The 1060 was the first Nvidia card I had bought in over a decade as it was way cheaper than the 480 at the time. I frankly couldn't care less who makes the card as long as I get value out of it.

Yeah I agree, I've bought AMD for the better value, but i'll buy Nvidia when the value is better and better meets my needs which is primarily for gaming. The accusative "Well stop being a Nvidia shill and buy AMD" argument doesn't work at all, a person shouldn't buy based on blind loyalty and out of spite or pity for the company.
The Radeon VII doesn't make much sense for a pure gaming use GPU, unless you don't care about more noise and high power consumption than the RTX cards, or also need a workstation card.

I'm not sure I'd call it forcibly really. The pricing we're seeing this generation is genuinely killing my interest in and new hardware and as such they're not getting any sales from me.

No. Just get a pencil. Don't worry about equipment, at this point in time it's irrelevant.
Seriously, you need to start by learning to sketch. Don't start running without learning how to walk.
Don't worry about shading and such. Focus on anatomy and how to construct bodies and faces using basic geometrical shapes.
Learn how limbs move and bend, and for the love of god, learn poses.
 
And yes, copy. Copy and copy till you learn it all. Once you know what you're doing, you can start developing your own style.

For ease of use, Digital is king. You buy it, download it immediately, and can move the files around as needed. My only gripe is that iTunes only offers 256 kbps files, instead of ALAC/CD-quality.
 
And because of that reason, I prefer to buy physical CD's - but it's just a lot more inconvenient to do so (and often more costly).
 
I don't buy Vinyl at all, because it's objectively worse quality when compared to a CD mastered to a similar quality level. People buy Vinyl for 2 reasons:
1. They are collectors, and vinyl are easy collectors items
2. They prefer the subjective "warm" sound of vinyl

No, no, no. Nvidia will take a new approach with the 1180 where they'll implement time dilation so it will run everything a 1 FPS, but it will speed up your time by 6000% so it looks like you're playing at 60 FPS.
You will age a lot quicker though.

Intel is unlikely to be able to match AMD on the first attempt. They don't have the same experience with discrete GPUs, and also they will be at a process fabrication disadvantage. AMD will be on 7nm by that point for all their GPUs and CPUs.
 
AMD is not gonna give up on gaming GPUs. They were able to survive for a long time while the company makes was making losses, big losses.
Now the company is profitable, and the profits are increasing. Plus they are increasing their R&D every year, even though that takes time to manifest itself in shipping products. There is now way that AMD is gonna give up now, it doesn't make any sense after what they have been through.
 
Also Nvidia is more interested in making big profit margins than trying to take AMD's smaller GPU market share. So for example they launch the GTX 2070, 2080 and 2080 ti. Now the normal thing to do is to replace the previous generation. But Nvidia does not do that this time, instead they create a whole new pricing tier to sell the new generation on top of the old generations pricing tier. So what that means is whenever AMD does launch their next generation GPUs they have enough room to slot them into the market and sell them profitably, because Nvidia keeps pricing high with big margins.
 
Also AMD wants to keep dominating the console market, and there is synergy there with developing for the PC market. So their next GPU for example Navi caters for both consoles and PC. It doesn't make any sense for AMD to quit the PC gaming market.

Go for the 1070.
Some people say the 1060 can do 60FPS at 1080P, but that's only if you're willing to compromise in the graphic settings.
 
Never think a card is too powerful for 1080P gaming. Games do get more demanding over time and the card that used to be perfect for 1080P will become useless in a couple of years. Meanwhile, the card that used to be overkill, is now getting a run for its money at 1080P.

Ray tracing, it will become super popular like other Nvidia only features like VXAO and PhysX... Specially now that it will be only supported by a small subset of the GPU market, developers will fall over each other to implement it!
 
RTX is basically a gimmick to rationalise the high cost of their hardware, whether it is useful or not.
Hint - My money is in the 'not useful' camp.
 
What pisses me off is that apparently the 2060 is only 25% or so faster than the 1060.
What pisses me off even more is that AMD has been pissing away their gaming GPU market share with really piss-weak, barely competitive products.

Why do Americans have to include America in conversations not related to America?
